Simple online form to create prenup

Using their SmartBuilder, you answer questions in an online form to create your prenup. There are some informational aids along the way, but it's pretty bare bones compared to other sites which offer insight as you fill it in. Conversely, there is an option to fill in the template using PDF editor, which allows you to manually add annotations, e-signatures, text, and more. Once you've completed the document, you must create an account before you are able to access it. Then you will have to choose a plan and enter a credit card prior to printing and downloading the prenup.

Mid-range price option if choosing annual membership

Legal Templates offers two options for trial memberships to the library of legal forms and services.

For full access to 140 legal forms, unlimited edits and downloads, conversion to any format, online signing capability, and collaborative tools, there is a $1 trial of the unlimited access plan, which then is charged monthly at $49.95. A free trial of the membership for limited access includes limited edits and downloads, conversion to any format, and access to all of the legal templates.
An option for an annual subscription priced at $119.88 is also a possibility, but it's not on the sign-up page. You have to search the help center and then it gives some detailed instructions to make the switch. (We wonder why they don't just make it an easy-to-find solution for their prospective members.)

Also, it should be noted that the site says Legal Templates offers "a free way for you to create binding legal documents," but we were unable to access anything without first choosing a trial plan.

Help is available

Customer service is available via email or chat. There is a library of resources to give you some direction with articles such as "Prenup vs. Postnup: What's the Difference?" and "What Should a Woman Ask for in a Prenup?"

No guarantees and vague refund policy

No guarantees are offered but refunds may be requested, though Legal Templates states that they are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and provides no other details. Given the fact that there is no customer service phone number, we wonder how many refund requests are actually approved.

Customer reviews are concerning

An accredited business by the BBB, Legal Templates has still only earned a "B" rating, as a result of the numerous complaints filed against the business. The majority of complaints seem to be regarding monthly charges made at the time of sign-up, and they were resolved with refunds only after reporting the company to the BBB, despite previously asking on the website's chat. (This seems a little off to us.) Customer reviews left on the BBB site seem to have declined over the past couple of years, going from 5-star raves to 1-star rants. The overall grade has accordingly taken a nosedive, having previously been in the "A" range. Trustpilot ranks Legal Templates 3.9 out of 5 stars. Positive reviewers noted the simplicity of use and forms which met their needs, but negative reviews question the legitimacy of forms and fume over the charges they say they did not authorize.

A prenup service to skip

Legal Templates offers a very limited, no-frills experience. Given all of the downsides we discovered, we advise you to beware when using this company's service, as it continues its downward spiral.
