Allstate Motor Club Review 3 Star Rating

Allstate Motor Club

3 Star Rating
  • Monthly plans or pay-per-use
  • On-time arrival guarantee
  • Affordable plans
  • Discounts for Allstate auto-insured members

Just hearing the word Allstate immediately triggers Dennis Haysbert's voice in our head saying, "Are you in good hands?" Or "That's Allstate's stand." Their commercials are memorable, that's for sure. Allstate has been in business for over 90 years offering an array of protection products like auto, home, life and other insurance. Some of their other brands include Esurance, Encompass, SquareTrade, and Answer Financial.

Purchase a plan or pay-per-use

Whether you need a tow, help with a flat tire, a jump start, or help getting back into your locked car, Allstate's Roadside Assistance plans can help (as long as you don't live in California). They have three types of service to fit your needs including plans or pay-per-use. The two plans include Roadside Advantage and Roadside Elite. They include:

  • Advantage Plan. Starts at less than $7/month with fees of $79 for the first year
    • 3 rescues per year
    • 24/hour roadside assistance
    • $150 benefit per tow (mileage unspecified)
    • Jump starts
    • Fuel delivery
    • Lockout services
    • Tire change
    • $1,500 trip interruption benefit
    • $100 road hazard benefit
  • Elite Plan. Starts at less than $12/month with fees of $149 for the first year
    • 5 rescues per year
    • 24/hour roadside assistance and RV coverage
    • $250 benefit per tow (mileage unspecified)
    • Jump starts
    • Fuel delivery
    • Lockout services
    • Tire change
    • $1,500 trip interruption benefit
    • $250 road hazard benefit

Plans also come with additional benefits like flight deals, hotel bookings, savings on vacation packages, car buying services, discounted oil changes, movie tickets, spas, gym memberships, and more.

Emergency services have you covered

If you'd rather just pay for a tow truck from Allstate when you need it, that's an option too. The price of a tow begins at $119 for a 5-mile tow and is a one-time service. It doesn't require any kind of policy or for you to have auto insurance through Allstate. This is helpful for emergency situations where you didn't plan ahead to have a Roadside Assistance plan in place, but it is almost the same cost as a plan for a year minus all of the other benefits. If you have auto insurance through Allstate, you can add coverage for towing, tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, and fuel delivery for as little as $25 per vehicle.

On-time guarantee

Allstate has an on-time arrival guarantee to ensure that your tow truck arrives promptly. If the service provider arrives more than 30 minutes after the estimated time of arrival, you will qualify for a 25% discount on your next year's membership dues.

Policies unclear on website

Some may need to cancel their Roadside Assistance policy for one reason or another. Unfortunately, the company does not make it easy to find out how to do this. According to customers, you can cancel your policy at any time and receive a prorated refund for services you didn't use. If you cancel within the first 30 days of signing up, you'll receive a full refund.

Heated events lead to heated reviews

Allstate Motor Club has a "B" rating from the Better Business Bureau because of 75 complaints made against the company. We noticed that Allstate did respond to all of the complaints, which is good. There are reports of long waits on hold with customer service, tow trucks not showing up, being billed for services they were not subscribed to, and more. Unfortunately, these types of complaints are common among all Roadside Assistance companies. When there are hiccups with services, people in dangerous and stressful situations are prone to be extremely upset when they don't get the help they need right away. This leads to a lot of angry reviews online.

Not for everyone

Some people may have questions about their towing mileage benefits or cancellation policy, or if they're able to get discounts on rental cars and other benefits offered by other major Roadside Assistance companies. We wish Allstate was more clear and detailed in their explanation of benefits online, but it may take calls to customer service to get all your specific questions answered. This might be a great service especially for those who already have auto insurance through Allstate, but it might not be everyone's first choice. Since they don't serve California residents or have fantastic reviews, it's a good idea to check out a higher-rated Roadside Assistance company.

Roadside Assistance Company FAQ

The most commonly-used benefits of roadside assistance plans are 24-hour towing, flat tire repair, jump starting, lockout service, and emergency fuel delivery. Your plan may also include trip interruption assistance, emergency medical referrals if you need treatment while traveling, travel planning help and discounts on related services.
Not at all. Most plans range from $60 - $200 per year, depending on the level of coverage you select and the number of household members included on the contract.
This varies widely from provider to provider - and even from one plan to another from the same company. It's important that you read the terms and conditions very carefully, so that you're not left with a nasty surprise of extra charges or no coverage when you need it most. One common limitation is on towing: many plans have a mileage limit on a covered tow, and customers are responsible for paying any fees beyond that distance. You may also get a certain number of service calls per year, with little to no coverage once you've reached that limit.
Yes, sometimes: and if you already have coverage, you might not need to pay for a roadside assistance plan. But, you'll want to read your policy very carefully so that you'll know what's covered - and what isn't. For example, your roadside assistance with a new car might expire once you hit two years or 25,000 miles.
Most plans cover you throughout the US, as well as Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the USVI. But, if you're planning on trips outside of the United States, be sure your roadside assistance plan extends to your destination, and know how to contact your provider for help.
Yes! Some roadside assistance plans specialize in helping people with non-traditional vehicles like motorcycles and RVs (and even bicycles!).
Sometimes. Because most plans are charged monthly, most providers let you cancel with no penalty. You might not get your money back for any previous months of service, especially if you received any benefits during that time.
You'll need to consider which companies offer the coverage you want, compare prices, and check out customer reviews: the "best deal" might not be so great if the service falls short and you're waiting hours for help. It's a good idea to look up the provider's reputation with the Better Business Bureau as well.

Continued from above...

You can customize your plans with additional add-ons like trip interruption coverage or even financial assistance with legal defense help if you get a speeding ticket. The cost for Roadside Assistance will depend on the plan you choose. Most plans allow for you to use your coverage regardless of who owns the car you're driving and you can easily get protection for the whole family.

When shopping for a Roadside Assistance provider, here are a few important things to consider:

  • Coverage details. There are major differences between most Roadside Assistance plans. Carefully read the details and cost of each option to decide which one will be most comprehensive and save you the most time and trouble!
  • Length of coverage. Do you want your plan to cover more than one vehicle? Do you want Roadside Assistance to be available well beyond your car's warranty expiration? Pay close attention to how long your Roadside Assistance is good for.
  • Provider's reputation. What do customers have to say about their experience with the provider so far? How long have they been in business? How prompt are they at getting to you once you make a call for assistance? Do they have a satisfaction guarantee?
