Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

Good Sam Roadside Assistance was established in 1984 and they provide impressive roadside assistance coverage to both automobiles and RV's. They are run by Good Sam Enterprises, a provider of membership clubs and subscription-based products targeted toward recreational vehicle owners and outdoor enthusiasts in the US. They also operate over 190 Camping World stores and RVs.com, an RV retailer.

Wide coverage area

Good Sam's roadside assistance program promises to keep you and your family protected at a fraction of the cost that other Roadside Assistance providers do - citing AAA as an example of a company they can easily beat. If you live in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you can get Roadside Assistance coverage through Good Sam.

6 Roadside Assistance plans

There are 6 roadside assistance plans to choose from. They all include coverage for cars, vans, pickups, and SUVs. There is no cap on towing mileage since they are willing to cover the cost to get to the nearest service center "no matter if it's 5 or 500 miles away". Other services include changing flat tires, battery jumpstart, emergency fuel delivery (up to 5 gallons), and lockout assistance. In addition, everyone in the family is fully covered under one plan as long as the dependent children are under the age of 25.

The three auto plans include:

  • Platinum Auto (regularly $99.95, on sale for $49.95)
  • Platinum+ Auto (regularly $109.95, on sale for $54.95)
  • Platinum Complete Auto (regularly $179.95, on sale for $89.95)

The three RV plans include:

  • Standard RV (regularly $129.95, on sale for $64.95)
  • Platinum RV (regularly $159.95, on sale for $79.95)
  • Platinum Complete RV (regularly $239.95, on sale for $119.95)

Fully covered with Platinum Complete Plan

The Platinum+ service also covers motorcycles and sport trailers like boats, ATVs, snowmobile trailers, and more. The Platinum Complete Auto plan covers all of your owned vehicles under one plan. It ensures you'll get tire replacements if needed and wheel replacement and repair covered up to $500 per incident, with 2 incidents allowed yearly. If you become sick or injured while traveling, Emergency Travel & Medical Assistance Services will help with costs for things like evacuations, transportation after an emergency, repatriation services, vehicle return after a medical emergency and more up to $25,000 per qualifying event. An added perk to having a membership through Good Sam is the extra repair savings, rental car and hotel discounts you qualify for.

Up to 50% off plans

At the time of this review, Good Sam was offering a whopping 50% off their Roadside Assistance plans, making plans as low as $49.95/year for new members. We aren't sure how often they run major sales like this or if it's all a marketing strategy and the sale prices are the same as what you're charged year-round.

Cancel anytime

You can choose to cancel your Good Sam Roadside Assistance membership at any time. You'll be given a prorated refund for the unused portion of your Membership term unless you've already utilized the Roadside Services during your current term.

Better than "Good" - they're the best

We like how Good Sam's website is laid out. It's easy to get thorough details about each Roadside Assistance plan. Their pricing and benefits are hard for other companies to compete with, so it's obvious why many people choose Good Sam for Roadside Assistance. Unlimited towing mileage, full family coverage, and multiple plans to choose from make Good Sam a great choice. They've earned an "A+" from the Better Business Bureau as well as our highest rating among Roadside Assistance providers.

Roadside Assistance Company FAQ

The most commonly-used benefits of roadside assistance plans are 24-hour towing, flat tire repair, jump starting, lockout service, and emergency fuel delivery. Your plan may also include trip interruption assistance, emergency medical referrals if you need treatment while traveling, travel planning help and discounts on related services.
Not at all. Most plans range from $60 - $200 per year, depending on the level of coverage you select and the number of household members included on the contract.
This varies widely from provider to provider - and even from one plan to another from the same company. It's important that you read the terms and conditions very carefully, so that you're not left with a nasty surprise of extra charges or no coverage when you need it most. One common limitation is on towing: many plans have a mileage limit on a covered tow, and customers are responsible for paying any fees beyond that distance. You may also get a certain number of service calls per year, with little to no coverage once you've reached that limit.
Yes, sometimes: and if you already have coverage, you might not need to pay for a roadside assistance plan. But, you'll want to read your policy very carefully so that you'll know what's covered - and what isn't. For example, your roadside assistance with a new car might expire once you hit two years or 25,000 miles.
Most plans cover you throughout the US, as well as Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the USVI. But, if you're planning on trips outside of the United States, be sure your roadside assistance plan extends to your destination, and know how to contact your provider for help.
Yes! Some roadside assistance plans specialize in helping people with non-traditional vehicles like motorcycles and RVs (and even bicycles!).
Sometimes. Because most plans are charged monthly, most providers let you cancel with no penalty. You might not get your money back for any previous months of service, especially if you received any benefits during that time.
You'll need to consider which companies offer the coverage you want, compare prices, and check out customer reviews: the "best deal" might not be so great if the service falls short and you're waiting hours for help. It's a good idea to look up the provider's reputation with the Better Business Bureau as well.

Continued from above...

You can customize your plans with additional add-ons like trip interruption coverage or even financial assistance with legal defense help if you get a speeding ticket. The cost for Roadside Assistance will depend on the plan you choose. Most plans allow for you to use your coverage regardless of who owns the car you're driving and you can easily get protection for the whole family.

When shopping for a Roadside Assistance provider, here are a few important things to consider:

  • Coverage details. There are major differences between most Roadside Assistance plans. Carefully read the details and cost of each option to decide which one will be most comprehensive and save you the most time and trouble!
  • Length of coverage. Do you want your plan to cover more than one vehicle? Do you want Roadside Assistance to be available well beyond your car's warranty expiration? Pay close attention to how long your Roadside Assistance is good for.
  • Provider's reputation. What do customers have to say about their experience with the provider so far? How long have they been in business? How prompt are they at getting to you once you make a call for assistance? Do they have a satisfaction guarantee?
