When you're putting finishing touches on a room you're decorating, adding a rug can be a major statement piece. It can tie all the colors and accents in a room together while cozying up your space. Whether you want a bold, noticeable rug or just one for practicality to protect some of your flooring, you could spend hours looking through all the options out there. Rugs come in all sizes, materials, and levels of cushion.
The perfect rug is out there, you just have to know where to find it. But there's no need to spend hours or even days driving around to all the stores in the area looking at the rugs they have to offer. These days, most stores only carry a handful or so of rug styles and sizes, so the only way to get a wide variety of designs and sizes that can adapt to your space is to shop online.
Monday, January 13th
Rugs USA has over 20 years under their belts in the rug industry. They've sold over 8 million rugs and are experienced in creating a seamless online shopping experience for their customers. From selecting a rug style and size, to ordering and delivery, to education about how to care for your rug, Rugs USA works hard to be there for their buyers every step of the way. There are over 4,000 rug choices at Rugs USA at prices that are hard to beat.
Fabulous range of rug types
The categories of rugs at Rugs USA includes washable rugs (738), custom-size rugs (194), outdoor rugs (509), and all other rugs. We like that there are all these options for people in one place. Whether you're going for a farmhouse feel, bohemian style, contemporary rugs, or something for the kids, you'll be satisfied with the selection at Rugs USA. There are rugs of all different materials and even ones that are handmade, stain-resistant, eco-friendly, reversible, and OEKO-TEX certified. They've covered all the bases.
Prices we can get behind
At the time of this review, there was a limited time sale where everything was 25% off. Talk about a deal! Rugs range in price from $21 to $1,214. Even the most expensive rug pales in price compared to rugs from some other retailers we've evaluated. Rugs USA is meant to be affordable for everyone and doesn't try to push boujee rugs or anything handmade from a foreign country that will cost an arm and a leg. Here you're just getting something beautiful and simple that will accent the rooms in your home without you having to try too hard.
Fantastic online experience
We got hooked on a few rugs at Rugs USA since they were simple, classy, and beautiful, but came at totally reasonable prices. We found that most of them come in about 7 different sizes you can pick from. There are up to 8 product photos on many of the rugs so we were able to see it up close, from the back, in a room, and with different decor. The rugs also are listed with a great description and details about everything related to where it was made, what materials it's made out of, how to care for it, how it feels, what the pile is like, and more. They even have unfiltered customer reviews on each rug, which is one of our favorite things to see.
Free shipping and 30-day returns
Ground shipping is complimentary on all items sold at Rugs USA. There are expedited shipping options for customers if you want your rug to come a little faster, but even standard shipping sends items out of the warehouse within 1-2 days usually. Once your rug arrives, you have 30 days to decide if it's everything you hoped for or not. If you choose to return your rug, you can get a full refund, but you will be responsible for the shipping fees.
High ratings all around
When we're deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on making a purchase, we always like to check a company's Better Business Bureau rating. Luckily, Rugs USA has an "A-” rating, so that bolstered our confidence. Alongside this, customer reviews are highly important to us and we've heard almost nothing but great things from that feedback. People say buying a rug here is a no-brainer since their prices are fantastic, rugs are exactly as expected, there's a solid selection, and customer service is fabulous. You truly can't go wrong here.
Checks all our boxes
There are a lot of good rug companies out there. However, one reason we love Rugs USA so much is because their selection is beautiful, but not so huge that we get a headache trying to sort through it all. We are big fans of machine-washable rugs and it's great to have a selection of those here too. Prices are nothing to complain about, there's free shipping, 30-day returns, and customers really like buying from this company. Rugs USA checks all our boxes, earning our top recommendation and tying for our highest rating.
Rug Studio is a division of Oriental Rug Gallery, a family-owned business based out of San Antonio, Texas. They have been around the block with over 90 years of experience in the rug industry. The company owns a 100,000 cubic foot warehouse where they ship their tens of thousands of rugs to customers and other retailers throughout the US. Rug Studio is proud of their ability to ship in-stock items within 24 hours of purchase to make their inventory as easily accessible to everyone as possible.
Unbelievable selection
It would take all day long to browse through every rug available from Rug Studio. They have over 61,400 rugs to choose from. You might spend some time finding ideas about what options are out there and getting inspiration for your space, but then you'll want to narrow down by size, style, color, weave, material, brand, and price range to make things easier. Rug Studio makes some of their own rugs, but they also sell well-known brands like Safavieh, Solo, Oriental Weavers, Kaleen, Famous Maker, and others.
Go subtle or bold
The majority of the rugs from Rug Studio are machine-woven, but you'll also get options for tufted, woven, outdoor, shag, knotted, braided, skins, some washable rugs, and other types. Whether you want a subtle, neutral rug or something bright and loud, you can find it here. There are over 7,000 options for "earthtones” with other selections like teal, yellow, purple, pastels, tan, orange, and everything in-between. We saw some fun rugs that resembled ocean waves, some with all-directional stripes, kids rugs with bright alphabet letters, safari animal rugs, solid colors, stripes, florals, and subtle patterns that would blend into any room.
Use the price filter
To see pricing on a rug, you'll select a style you're interested in and then scroll through the cost depending on the sizes. You'll see what sizes are available and how much they cost, along with the shipping dates all in a list so you can easily compare them. You can get really cheap "Last Chance” rugs for as little as $20 or spend up to $9,450 for a large, plush rug. Your best bet is to filter by price to make sure you only see selections that are in your range. On the rugs we selected, there was a "Take An Extra 20% Off” discount code available. This was a nice little savings, and regardless of what you're buying here or how much you spend, Rug Studio will ship your order for free. If you happen to find an identical rug for a cheaper price elsewhere, there is a price match page on Rug Studio's website for you to input the information and get the lower price.
Love it or return it
You'll have 30 days to return anything that you're not satisfied with (unless it's one of the few custom made rugs). As long as your rug is in new, unused condition, you can get a full refund minus the cost of shipping.
Expect great things
Rug Studio and Oriental Rug Gallery both hold "A+” ratings with the Better Business Bureau. Their excellent reviews from customers serve as a testament to this being a place where you can expect phenomenal customer service, seamless returns, fantastic selections, and an overall good experience each time you place an order. Some rugs have customer reviews right on the website that you can refer to as well.
What's not to like?
Rug Studio has everything we look for in a company. Their selection will take care of any space you're adding to, prices fit all budgets, shipping is fast and free, customer reviews are good, and they have a solid rating with the Better Business Bureau. What's not to like? We highly recommend shopping at Rug Studio and they receive an excellent rating.
Wayfair is like a catch-all for nearly every type of product that can be found under one roof. They ship worldwide with their 18 fulfillment centers and 38 delivery centers throughout the U.S., Germany, Canada, and the U.K. When you're shopping online at Wayfair, you can essentially build and decorate your whole home with their selection of furniture, outdoor products, bedding and bath, decor and pillows, lighting, organization, home improvement items, appliances, pet essentials, and holiday products.
Unbeatable inventory
Wayfair takes the cake for the amount of rugs available on their website. Just for area rugs, there are over 300,000 choices. They have more than 12,870 machine washable rugs, 37,736 outdoor rugs, and 40,000 bath rugs and mats. You get the picture: there are a LOT of rugs to sort through here. No matter your personal style, the type of room you're decorating, the age you're catering to, or the size of rug you need, Wayfair will surely have something to fit the bill.
Unreal amount of filter categories
Thankfully, Wayfair is expert in managing unbelievable inventories of products and they make it easy to simplify your search. First you'll select the type of rug you want, choose a size, color, rug shape, pile height, primary pattern, features, technique/weave, price, material, sustainability features, room, season/holiday, theme, brand, and even more categories, if you can believe it. You probably won't need all of these, but Wayfair has done a lot of organizing to make sure that you can find the rug you're hoping for without it taking too much time.
Wide ranging costs
As you can imagine, with hundreds of thousands of rugs, there's undoubtedly thousands of them within your budget. The best deal you'll get is a 2-pack of 2' x 3' rugs for just $22.99. There are a few patterns of these and they'd be perfect as doormats or for putting under a small table. Just for fun we checked the most expensive rug at Wayfair and it's $62,999. This was especially crazy since it was nothing but a plain taupe runner and we're sure we could find one that looks identical for less than $200. But to each their own!
Honest product reviews
When you find a rug on Wayfair you're excited about (and you undoubtedly will), we recommend reading the customer reviews on it. Wayfair lets buyers leave unfiltered reviews and you'll often find hundreds of them for any given product. Customers leave descriptions of their shopping experience, how their products have held up, and even post pictures too. Aside from plenty of product photos, a solid range of sizes (often 7 or 8 per rug), and a detailed product overview, the customer reviews from Wayfair will be the most helpful way for you to make a good rug-buying decision.
Return rugs within 30 days
As long as you spend at least $35 at Wayfair, you'll get free shipping on your rug. If you change your mind about it once it arrives, you can send it back within 30 days for a full refund. Be sure to send back your rug in its original, undamaged condition to make sure you get all your money back.
Reliable and respected
Wayfair has an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. Their customer reviews on the rugs they sell speak for themselves. Overall, Wayfair is respected as a reliable retailer with accurate delivery windows, good customer service, shockingly low prices, and of course, more options for rugs and other items than you could possibly know what to do with.
Wayfair delivers
If you have a rug design or any other type of decor or furniture you've dreamed up in your mind, Wayfair will deliver. They have so many options it'll make you dizzy. We like that their website is easy to browse and we are always surprised at how they can get away with such low prices. When you're in the market for a rug, you've got to add Wayfair to your list of places to look. They've earned one of our best ratings.
Rugs Direct has been a market-leading specialty retailer of rugs since 1998. They partner with premium manufacturers to take their products to customers all throughout the United States and Canada. They have an assortment of rugs that are sure to delight buyers with quality construction, design, and materials. Rugs Direct prioritizes a strong assortment of rugs, a user friendly website, and positive delivery experience.
Everything you can imagine
It's hard to put a number on the amount of rugs sold by Rugs Direct because there are so many. There are hundreds of pages you can scroll through full of nearly every design of rug, material, and size. Looking for something to add a pop of color to your living room? Or a small beige, striped runner to tie in your kitchen decor? How about a darling cloud, turtle, or whale rug for your kid's bedroom? There are floral rugs of all colors, mushroom-shaped rugs, checkered rugs, antique-looking rugs, rugs with stars, and everything else you can imagine at Rugs Direct.
Major sales
The price range of rugs here is between $10 and $30,885. You can't sort by price (we wish you could), but we don't doubt that there are hundreds of them within nearly every price range. At the time of this review, there was a closeout sale where all rugs were 60%+ off regular pricing. When you sign up for marketing emails, Rugs Direct will send you a code for 10% off your order. If you're buying a big, thick rug, 10% could be a good chunk of change.
Standard and custom sizing
If you find a style you love, you can select it, choose the size option that works best for your room, add a rug pad (optional), and go over all the dimensions and specifications. Some rugs let you choose custom sizes, others start as small as a 2' x 3' and go as big as 12' x 15'. You can also look at all circular rugs, rectangular or square rugs, and runners. There's a little product overview with each listing that's helpful because it includes brief but important information about how thick the rug is, if it's pet-friendly, whether or not it's good for high traffic areas, if it's easy to clean, if the rug should be used indoor/outdoor, and more.
Return within 30 days
If you change your mind about a rug, you have 30 days to send it back for a full refund, but you'll be responsible for paying for the cost of shipping. The rug also needs to be in original condition and packaging to be accepted. Items marked as "Final Sale” or custom-made rugs are non-returnable.
Happy customers
Rugs Direct holds a solid "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. Better yet, they have over 40,000 reviews from customers on their own site and third-party sites. The overwhelming majority of these reviews are from people who say their products arrived in a timely fashion, the rugs appear just as they do online, the website was easy to use, and the rugs are durable. Rugs Direct has a smooth process and knows how to keep their customers happy.
A top place to look
There are a lot of reasons to shop at Rugs Direct. Their selection is hard to beat and they have so many sizes and price ranges that we are confident this will be a useful place for people to shop. We like that they offer major sales and provide free shipping on all orders. When we're in the market for a rug, Rugs Direct is always on our list of places to look.
In 2017, Ruggable's founder, Jeneva Bell, set out to create premium-style rugs that also feel livable. She grew up in a stylish home with a lot of beautiful things, but always felt like she had to be careful so that everything stayed "nice”. With Ruggable, you don't have to worry about cleaning up messes since you can easily throw all of their rugs into the washing machine and have them come out good as new.
Machine-washable and non slip
Besides being machine-washable, Ruggable is proud that their rugs are non-slip, interchangeable, and come in thousands of designs. In total, there are 2,258 choices here, all of which are beautiful and one-of-a-kind. In this selection you'll find a mix of outdoor rugs, bath mats, doormats, and indoor rugs. You can shop by size and see little illustrated layouts that Ruggable has made to show how you might arrange furniture and envision your space with certain dimensions. You can also choose the color you're going for, style, texture, collaboration, and browse best sellers. If you aren't sure where to start, you might want to take their rug quiz to help identify the best options.
Rugs starting at $169
A lot of rug stores have repeat brands and patterns, but Ruggable has a lot of choices you won't find anywhere else. All of them are beautiful and it's truly an enjoyable experience to shop here. Most of the rugs come in area sizes between 2' x 3' and 10' x 14'. They also have sizes for runners and some designs come in circular sizing as well. Pricing ranges from $169 for a small 2' x 3' rug to $1,049 for a 10' x 14'. Standard shipping is free, which we're always on board with.
First purchase includes a rug pad
When you make your first purchase, you'll also buy the Ruggable rug pad that your rug cover adheres to for the non-slip feature. This rug pad is something you only need to buy once because in the future if you choose other Ruggable designs of the same size, you can switch them out and use the same base pad underneath. You'll choose between a standard or cushioned rug pad depending on how much traffic the rug will get.
Excellent product listings
Ruggable does a great job of highlighting each product with photos of it in different sizes and in different types of rooms. They have detailed descriptions about the materials and rug cover choices to make sure you make the perfect selection for your room that will last a long time. One of the best product details they've added are customer reviews on each rug. People can add a rating out of 5 stars and describe their experience with the company and how satisfied they are with the rugs themselves. A lot of people have also added photos of their rug in their home, which is beneficial because you can view the designs in different lighting, see them with a mix of furniture, and compare how similar they are to the website photos.
Processing fees
The one thing we don't love about Ruggable is their return policy. It's not a huge deal, but they do charge a $25 processing fee on every return. You can return or exchange within 30 days of the delivery date as long as it's in new condition with no signs of use. We just don't love spending money on nothing, so processing fees are a bummer. However, you should have enough information and reviews from Ruggable's website to make a good decision on your first go around and not have to deal with returns (hopefully).
Mostly high reviews
We have to admit we were a bit surprised and less than excited to find that Ruggable has a "C-” rating from the Better Business Bureau. The reason for this rating is the complaints filed against the company. After reading stories from disgruntled customers from third-party sites, it was clear that a huge reason people end up unhappy with Ruggable is because they make it really hard to return merchandise. Some people say it's hard to request a return in the first place and even within the 30-day return window they're sometimes denied. However, the overwhelming majority of reviews are extremely positive, so we aren't dissuaded by the negative ones. If you look at the reviews on each product, you'll find they are mostly 5 out of 5 stars.
Big fans from personal experience
We've personally experienced seeing a dirty Ruggable get thrown into a washing machine and come out looking bright, clean, and practically brand new. We're impressed with how well these come clean and hold up over time in high traffic areas, with kids, and pets. Ruggable's designs are some of our very favorites and their range of sizes is a huge plus. It makes sense why this company has grown so quickly and we are big fans of them. Ruggable has earned a commendable rating.
Rug Source boasts that they are the largest online resource for Oriental, Persian, modern, antique, and floor rugs. They have over 48,000 rugs from major countries like India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Nepal, Afghanistan, Tibet, Russia, China, and the United States. They aim to provide reasonable pricing by guaranteeing the lowest prices online and offering incredible discounts on their inventory.
Overwhelming selection
You won't be exploring the prettiest website when you're shopping at Rug Source, but it gets the job done. Filtering through over 48,000 rugs and pads is no easy task, so luckily you can choose your price range, select from 53 sizes, specify the style, shape, country of origin, age, weave type, pattern, and pile. This should help you bring your selections to at least a couple hundred or less, which is still a lot. You won't have a shortage of options here, that's for sure.
Something for every budget
The prices you'll find at Rug Source run from $19 to $139,860 and everywhere in between. How's that for a price range? Costs are dependent on the size of the rug, where it comes from, and the materials it's made of. Although the highest prices are extravagant, that doesn't mean you can't find something extremely affordable. Just for fun, we looked at all the rugs under $350 and there were 602 pages of them. When we were evaluating Rug Source, they had a discount code we could use sitewide that gave us both 20% off our order and free shipping. There's undoubtedly something here for every budget.
110% price match guarantee
To give you peace of mind about getting a good deal from Rug Source, they offer a 110% price match guarantee. They don't go into great detail on the website about how this works, but they say if you find a better deal on the same rug elsewhere, you can send them the price link for them to review. If the price match meets their qualifications (which aren't explicitly laid out) then they'll beat it by 110%.
Unique styles
It's hard to narrow down the style of rugs from Rug Source because they've got just about anything you can imagine. Just for fun we shopped for pink rugs and found everything from baby pink to fuschia with flowers, stripes, geometric patterns, chandelier-shaped repeating patterns, and so much more. Many of them were styles we haven't seen at any other rug store, which is actually quite uncommon. Rug Source has a simulation tool that lets you see the rug in a room to make sure it looks good with your walls, furniture, and decor. They list how long it will take for shipping (usually around 4 days), what material the rug is made of, weave type, specifications, pile, age, suggested retail price, and what appears to be unfiltered product reviews.
Free 30-day returns
If for any reason you aren't satisfied with the rug you get from Rug Source, you have 30 days to send it back for a full refund. To request a return, the company provides an email address. For the first three rugs you return to Rug Source (in your time as a customer, not per order), they'll cover the cost of shipping.
Well-liked company
Rug Source has an "A-” rating from the Better Business Bureau. If you look at the reviews customers have left for a particular rug, you'll find that there are quite a few on each one and you can read the thousands of honest reviews about the company overall. We love when a company is transparent enough to post these straight on their site. Third-party reviewers have equally good things to say and praise Rug Source for fair pricing, easy returns, careful packaging of deliveries, long-lasting quality, and more.
Don't hesitate
The selection at Rug Source is hard to beat, so we are confident that there is at least one (or a hundred) products here that would work for the space you're decorating. We trust that this company provides what they show online and you'll get it in a timely manner. Don't hesitate to try out Rug Source.
Ernesta is the place to go if you want to dream up a rug style and size from scratch to fit your room perfectly. They don't do run-of-the-mill rugs here, so plan on your rug shopping being a process. The company sources, cuts, finishes and ships each custom-sized rug themselves. You'll be able to choose from widths between 2 ft. and 15 ft. and lengths from 2 ft. to 25 ft. Everything here is high-quality and meant to blend with any type of room design, to class up a space and make it feel warm and comfortable.
Custom fit to your space
Since rugs from Ernesta are tailored to fit your unique space, they offer sizing as small as 2.5 ft. x 10 ft. to as large as 15 ft. by 25 ft. The three shapes their rugs come in are square, rectangle, and circle. (For customers wanting to place an order for a circular rug, the company asks that you call or email them to arrange this.) There are guides on Ernesta's site to help you choose the right material, style, and size for your space. You can even get free 1-on-1 support from their design assistants through email, text, or chat if you'd like.
187 design choices
To get started with the design process at Ernesta, you'll first designate whether you want a living room, outdoor, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, or hallway rug. There are 187 styles in total and you can select if you prefer wool, indoor/outdoor rugs, natural fibers, performance, or wool blend materials. You can also narrow down by color and rug thickness from ultra flat to super plush.
Subtle, neutral rugs
The designs at Ernesta are posh. They aren't wild by any means or even something that will stand out in a room. The styles of rugs here are meant to be subtle and pretty to tie together all the other colors and features of a room. Most rugs start around $700 at the least and go up to $11,655. Price is dependent on the material and design you choose along with your desired size. At the time of this review, there was a code for free shipping, so you can probably score this deal throughout the year.
Sample program
Before making your final purchase, Ernesta suggests that customers take advantage of their sample program. This allows you to get up to 5 samples for $25 (with prepaid return shipping) to make sure the color and texture you want is going to coordinate well with your furniture, flooring, and decor. With this you'll receive a $50 credit to use towards your rug purchase.
Final sale rugs
When you move forward with designing a rug at Ernesta, you want to triple-check your sizing and design selection beforehand since there is no option for refunds here. Unless you cancel or change your order within 24 hours, everything is final sale and cannot be sent back or exchanged. If in the unusual event your rug arrives damaged or with some sort of defect, you can reach out to Ernesta within 30 days and they will provide a resolution. Whenever you need to reach customer service at Ernesta, you'll either want to call or email them with the contact information provided.
Refer to product ratings
We wish Ernesta had a Better Business Bureau profile and rating to give us a better idea of how reliable their policies are and how they fare with customers. We even had a hard time finding third-party ratings for the company, so we imagine this isn't the most well-known place for rugs. However, when you're designing custom rugs you'll always pay more, so this isn't going to be an option for everyone either. Some of the rug styles from Ernesta have ratings and photos from other buyers, most of which are extremely high, so although there aren't many, be sure to read the ones listed to get some information about quality and performance.
Unique option for custom rugs
It's nice to find a company that breaks down barriers we all run into with shopping. Most rug retailers offer the same list of standard rug sizes, which work for most spaces, but not all. If you have a unique room you're working with, Ernesta is a fantastic option for high quality, beautiful, custom-sized rugs. The prices here are going to be out of reach for some people, which is why this company hasn't earned one of our highest ratings. We also would like to see more customer feedback to ensure that delivery is reliable and that Ernesta stands behind their products as far as quality. Overall, though, Ernesta has earned a good spot on our list of rug companies.
Super Area Rugs is a family-owned and operated rug store full of rug enthusiasts. The idea for the company originated in 2010 when the founders visited India and felt struck by the beauty and creativity of rugs made by local artisans. The colors and patterns were unlike any they'd seen before and they were totally captivated. Taking the inspiration from these rug artisans in India, Super Area Rugs was launched in 2015 to provide Turkish rugs made of the finest materials to customers all around the country.
Small, simple selection
Super Area Rugs has a collection of both indoor and outdoor rugs on their website. Their inventory isn't nearly as vast as some of the highest-rated rug stores we've looked into since they only have 264 indoor rugs. There are 96 outdoor rugs, 15 machine-washable rugs, and 4 types of rug pads you could add to your order. Like with many other rug retailers, you can select rugs here based on color, size, style, material, price, shape, and weave. Sizes range from 2' x 3' to 12' x 15' with the majority of rugs being 5' x' 8' and 8' x 10'. Most of the rugs here are rectangular and made of polypropylene.
Not very unique
Most of the styles from Super Area Rugs look like they'd work best in a living room, office, or kitchen. They don't have bright printed rugs for a kids' play area or bedroom and many of the patterns we noticed were similar to or the same as what we've found on other websites. The selection here isn't very unique or quite as beautiful as what you can get from their competitors, unfortunately.
Nothing is too pricey
The cheapest rug from Super Area Rugs is $15.99 and the most expensive is $829. However, the second most expensive rug is just $399, so that tells you that the majority of these rugs are well under even that. You could easily find a big, pretty rug here for under $200. If you want to sign up for emails from Super Area Rugs, they'll give you a 10% off code in return, plus the company often runs sales where you can save 15% or so off of everything anyway, so more often than not you'll probably pay less than full price. Another perk is that they offer free shipping sitewide.
30-day returns and 90-day warranty
Super Area Rugs has a 30-day return policy and interestingly, all the products are listed as having a 90-day warranty as well. We aren't entirely sure of the fine print of the warranty since it isn't laid out anywhere, but assuming they'll replace it within the first 3 months if there's an issue with craftsmanship, that's pretty awesome. We haven't seen warranties through many other rug retailers.
Few ratings, but overall positive
Super Area Rugs deserves some kudos for having an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. We love to see it! They also have good customer reviews, though not nearly as many as some competitors have. Their products show that customers can leave ratings on them, but very few rugs have actually been rated. From what people say, Super Area Rugs typically provides high-quality rugs and has reliable delivery and customer service.
Decent option, but not our favorite
There's no reason not to consider a rug from Super Area Rugs if you find one you like. However, they are clearly not as popular as some other rug stores we've reviewed. Their selection is much smaller than you'll find somewhere else and the styles don't vary as much either. You can definitely get a good price on a rug here and we like that shipping is free, so Super Area Rugs is a decent place to shop.
Rug & Rugs doesn't give a lot of background information about themselves. When the company began, how the idea for their processes originated, or where they're headed is a mystery to us. Based on the website, all this company wants you to know is that they create comfortable spaces with Afghan, Turkish, and Persian floor "clothing”. The company appears to be based out of Wyoming and serves customers all throughout the US.
Website errors
Rug & Rugs has an appealing website, but when we looked closely, we found a lot of grammatical errors which sometimes signals that a company is actually being run out of a foreign country. Although nothing is inherently wrong with that, it sometimes translates into delivery issues and problems with customer service. This is just one thing to keep in mind as you're shopping here.
Small variety
Customers can choose between Afghan, Persian, flat weave, tribal baloch and oriental rugs. However, in total there are only 194 rugs here (and some are out-of-stock). You might find something you're crazy about, but odds are they won't have something for all tastes and styles with this small of a selection. Besides choosing the style of rug and color you want, there's really no other way to slim down the options.
Single sizes
On the lowest end, you'll find rugs starting at $150 from Rug & Rugs, and you could spend as much as $3,490. The price depends entirely on the type of rug and nothing else, since Rug & Rugs only sells one size of each style. If you just want a small rug, you won't find that here: most sizes are around 8' x 10' without any variation. We wish you could find a design you loved and then pick the size to best suit your space, but that's not how Rug & Rugs works.
Basic details
When you select a rug online, you'll be shown a single picture of it, the name of the rug, price, size it comes in, how many people are currently viewing the selection, and an estimated delivery date. All orders from Rug & Rugs ship free. This is great news, but in this new world of 2-day shipping, the fact that it takes 7-10 days for delivery might seem slow to some. Overall, there isn't much to the product listings from Rug & Rugs, so you'll need to be fine with bare bones details and buying what could be a $1,000+ rug based off of little information.
30-day returns and 30-day refunds
If you need to make a return, you should send it back to Rug & Rugs' North Carolina warehouse within 30 days of receiving the item. Everything needs to be in the same condition as delivered and in the original packaging. Refunds are processed within 30 days of receiving the items and you'll be notified by e-mail about the status of your return.
Scant customer feedback
Customers can leave reviews on the rugs they buy from Rug & Rugs, but we didn't see any. This could indicate that they aren't getting a lot of business, some of their listings are brand new, or people are leaving negative feedback and the company is deleting them. Either way, it's hard to feel great about a company that doesn't have many reviews on their website or third-party sites. The Better Business Bureau doesn't have a profile or rating for Rug & Rugs either.
Nothing new
Aside from what seems like having a hard time coming up with a clever and unique company name (kidding!), Rug & Rugs didn't inspire us or get us excited about shopping. Their patterns are nothing we didn't feel like we'd seen a million times or could find elsewhere. It's a pain that rugs only come in one size and you can't filter down the selection by this factor. We wouldn't take a gamble on this place without reading from a lot of people who have made purchases here and felt satisfied with them. Because of this, Rug & Rugs has not been rated very highly by us.
Burke Decor is named after its founder, Erin Burke. She found it difficult to source decor she needed on her commercial development projects and decided to open a home decor business online where customers could access quality, high-style design. Burke Decor launched in 2007 and is guided by a group of designers and stylists who source interesting and beautiful products across a variety of genres to make every home beautiful.
Classy, formal rugs
Burke Decor has a gorgeous collection of furniture, tableware, lighting, bedding, wallpaper, candles, and rugs. There are 3,779 rugs at Burke Decor. You won't find anything cheesy and cheap-looking here, but rather classy, beautiful rugs that fit a more formal style. You can sort the selection by type (indoor/outdoor, runners, rugs), designers, brand, price, material, color, size, shape, style, and features. If you have an idea of what you want, it shouldn't be too hard to quickly find all the choices that meet your criteria.
Prices not for the faint of heart
If you sign up for Burke Decor's email list, you'll get a code for 15% off your order. This offer is available as soon as you reach their website, so take advantage if that's something you're interested in. Rugs range from $18.90 for a small runner to $18,164 for a hand-knotted 10' x 14' rug. Shipping is free on orders over $50, which means most rugs will qualify. If you're looking for a rug that's 5' x 8' or bigger, you should plan on spending at least a couple hundred dollars.
Funky rugs are few and far between
Although Burke Decor mostly has pretty, neutral-colored rugs, they do have some fun and funky patterns as well. We found some rugs without clean, straight edges, but rather non-traditional shaped edges with multiple colors woven throughout. We also found a cute panda-face rug that would make an adorable addition to a baby nursery. The majority of rugs come in circle, rectangle, or square shapes in colors like white, taupe, gray, and black with small geometric prints, florals, or stripes. But, if you're in the market for bright, unique-looking rugs, Burke Decor won't be the most fruitful place to look.
Pricey returns
For each rug you select, you'll see plenty of details about how it was made, what type of foot traffic it can handle, how to care for it, and what rug pad is recommended. Most shipping times are listed as 5-10 days and Burke Decor accepts returns within 30 days from the delivery date. The big bummer about returns here is that they charge a 5% fee deducted from your credit and customers are responsible for the cost to send back their products. This is a big deterrent for us since it makes it feel more risky to make any purchases: you'll pay whether or not you keep your order.
Curb your excitement
Any excitement we had over the rug selection at Burke Decor came to a quick stop when we saw that they have an "F” rating by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This is accompanied by an alert for a pattern of complaints from customers who placed orders and never received them and had difficulties receiving refunds. This is ultimately the worst thing that could happen when buying from a company. The BBB met with a company representative who said they are working to resolve these issues. As of the time of this review, Burke Decor's customer reviews were concerningly low and it does not seem like they've gotten their processes figured out. Because of this, we unfortunately recommend steering clear of this company even though they have some gorgeous rugs.
Not worth the risk
There is a lot of potential at Burke Decor. They have a pretty selection that would surely match the taste of many people and be a great accent in most rooms. However, for the price you might pay for some of these rugs, it's not worth the risk of not receiving your items like some people have experienced. Burke Decor has earned a corresponding low rating from us.
Mother Ruggers is a new, female-founded-and-operated rug company that just got its start in 2021. What makes them unique is their luxury, woven, anti-slip, Turkish-made machine washable rugs that allow buyers to create a liveable space without sacrificing beauty. Regardless of how clean your rug looks, it's pretty shocking how much dirt and dust carpet can hold. Being able to throw it in the washing machine and have it look good as new is a total game changer in the rug world. Once you try that kind of rug, you'll never want to go back.
Nearly non-existent inventory
There are nearly 200 rugs at Mother Ruggers, some of which make an adorable addition to a child's bedroom with a print of a big ballerina, balloons, or a teddy bear. Other rugs have simple neutral patterns and colors and some have bright floral designs, checkers, or geometric shapes. There are some really cute options here, which is why it's unfortunate that of all the rug options, only two of them were in stock at the time of this review. This either means this is a really popular store that can't keep up with inventory, or they launched, sold out of a lot of rugs, and haven't bothered to restock because business isn't going as well as they hoped. Either way, there's hardly anything you can even buy here.
Between $200 and $1,000
Most rugs come with one to two sizes you can select. Some are 4' x 6', while others have options for 5'3” x 7'6” or 2'6” x 6'9”. A couple of the rugs have sizes up to an 8' x 10'. Either way, most of these rugs aren't going to work well for a really big room. They are best for a small bedroom or hallway runner. Prices depend on how big the rug you select is, but you can expect to pay around $199 for a 4' x 6' rug and up to $1,000 for an 8' x 10'.
Free shipping for all
There's something so satisfying about free shipping, so we're pleased to see that customers get this from Mother Ruggers regardless of how much money they spend. Orders will ship out within 1-2 days after they are placed. However, if you can't find a rug that's in stock, it doesn't really matter how much shipping costs in the end.
Informative website
Each rug listing gives information about what type of traffic the rug can handle, most of which are moderate/high traffic. Mats are recommended for high traffic areas, but as far as we could see, Mother Ruggers doesn't sell those mats. They also list the areas of your home that the rug is ideal for, how to properly care for it, and if it's non-slip. We wish there were unfiltered customer reviews on the products, but that's not part of the listings, unfortunately.
30-day returns and 2-3 year warranty
Within 30 days of purchase you can return your rug for a refund as long as it's in the same condition as you received it. All rugs have a 2-3 year defect warranty, so if you properly care for your rug by shaking it, lightly vacuuming, cleaning it in your washing machine, and drying it flat, it should last a long time. If there are defects in the workmanship of the rug, you can ship it back to the company for a replacement within the specified warranty timeframe. You'll initially pay for return shipping, but once they accept the item and agree that it qualifies for a warranty replacement, they'll refund your shipping costs. That's pretty generous for a rug retailer.
Lack of customer reviews
Mother Ruggers doesn't have a Better Business Bureau profile, many third-party ratings, or unfiltered reviews on their site. We love the idea of this company, but as far as customer feedback, it's kind of a ghost town. This doesn't give us confidence when submitting an order, so their lack of customer reviews is something we give a thumbs down on.
Give them a ring
If you really love a rug you see here, Mother Ruggers has a phone number, email address, and live chat box available for you to contact them. It would be worth checking to see if that particular rug is going to be coming back in stock. This will also give you an idea of how responsive their customer service team is and help you decide if you want to take a chance on this company. Otherwise, there are other machine-washable rug companies with huge inventories of in-stock rugs that come in a much bigger variety of sizes than what you'll find here. We'd recommend checking out any of their higher-rated competitors before counting on Mother Ruggers.
You'll find tens of thousands of choices on the internet, so it's important to find a website that helps you narrow down what could be an overwhelming selection. You'll be able to input the colors, patterns, size, material, and shape that you've got in mind and have exactly what you're looking for right at your fingertips.
It can be hard to choose between so many beautiful rugs, so some companies let you upload a photo of the room you're decorating and visualize it before making a purchase. Some high-end rug stores also have specialists you can chat with who can help you make the right selection. Not all of us feel confident in our interior design skills, so it's a big help to get second opinions.
Even after thoughtful deliberation, you may still purchase a rug you're not in love with. Once you lay it out in your room, you usually have at least 30 days to return it for either a full refund or an exchange. Be sure to read the fine print about each rug company and see if they offer free returns or if you'll have to fork out the money to send a potentially heavy and large rug back. That could be expensive!
Rugs are one of the most exciting things to shop for when you're sprucing up a space. You can even change them out to decorate for different holidays and seasonal decor.
