When you're putting finishing touches on a room you're decorating, adding a rug can be a major statement piece. It can tie all the colors and accents in a room together while cozying up your space. Whether you want a bold, noticeable rug or just one for practicality to protect some of your flooring, you could spend hours looking through all the options out there. Rugs come in all sizes, materials, and levels of cushion.
The perfect rug is out there, you just have to know where to find it. But there's no need to spend hours or even days driving around to all the stores in the area looking at the rugs they have to offer. These days, most stores only carry a handful or so of rug styles and sizes, so the only way to get a wide variety of designs and sizes that can adapt to your space is to shop online.

Rugs USA has landed our top recommendation among rug companies for quite a few reasons. There are over 4,000 rugs here which gives us more than enough options without being ridiculously overwhelming. They often run major sales (25% off everything at the time of this review), offer free shipping on all orders, have excellent product listings with lots of photos and detail, hold an "A-” rating from the Better Business Bureau, and are well-liked by customers. We're confident in Rugs USA and their ability to provide a great experience for their customers, so they've earned our highest rating.
Rug Studio is home to over 61,400 rugs and has been in the business for over 90 years. They, along with their parent company, have an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and fantastic customer reviews. Rug Studio ships everything for free within 1-2 days, has a price-match guarantee, and allows for returns within 30 days. Their filter features make it easy to identify the rugs that fit your criteria, so you can't go wrong when you shop here. Rug Studio has earned one of our highest ratings.
How Wayfair is able to supply over 300,000 rugs to their customers at incredibly low prices is beyond us. This store has just about everything you could ever want or need to furnish your home and beyond. Their easy-to-use website will help you narrow down their absurdly ginormous inventory of rugs to find exactly what you're looking for. If you spend at least $35 here you'll get free shipping and their prices are more than reasonable. There are hundreds of helpful customer reviews on most rugs, so we suggest referring to those when deciding which rug to buy. This is a great place to look for rugs of all shapes, sizes, and colors, so Wayfair has earned a very high rating.
Rugs Direct is a favorite rug store of many people because of their fantastic selection of trendy rugs. There are over 18,000 rug styles here, all of which qualify for free shipping and 30-day returns. Rugs Directs often runs massive sales that can help you save over 50% on your order. They have an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau and customers are almost always happy with their experience here. Always keep Rugs Direct on your short-list when you're looking for rugs online.
Ruggable has become a popular rug company because of their machine-washable designs and one-of-a-kind styles. The company has over 2,200 designs on their website, all of which come in a wide range of sizes and shapes. Ruggable provides high-quality rugs that can be switched out based on different holidays, seasons, or just whenever you need to change up the aesthetic of a room. They offer free shipping and 30-day returns on their rugs. Ruggable has unfiltered reviews on their website and most of them are stellar. Besides some issues people have had with returns, Ruggable has proven to be a fantastic choice for buying rugs that are easy to maintain and beautiful to look at.
Rug Source has over 48,000 rugs for sale on their website starting at just $19. Whatever your budget, there are hundreds or thousands of choices here for you. Rug Source doesn't have the most modern or beautiful website, but they do make it easy to use a lot of filter tools to narrow down the rugs you might be looking for. Their free 30-day returns, 110% price match guarantee, positive customer reviews, and "A-” rating from the Better Business Bureau make this a great place to shop for rugs online.
Ernesta is for the people who want to go the extra mile to ensure their rug fits their unique space perfectly and don't want to compromise on quality. Here you specify custom sizing of square, rectangle or circular rugs to accent your space. Ernesta has a sample program where they'll ship you 5 rug types to make sure the one you choose fits all your criteria, since you can't return it once you've purchased it. There are 187 rug styles here that take 2-4 weeks from order placement to be delivered to your home. Ernesta provides free 1-on-1 design assistance if you need it and even has a feature where you can see their rugs in your space if you upload a picture. There aren't a lot of third-party reviews for this company and no Better Business Bureau rating, but there are positive customer reviews straight from their website. Ernesta is going to be one of your more expensive rug options, but if you want something that will last years that you can't get anywhere else, give them a look.
Super Area Rugs has a small selection of Turkish rugs that were inspired by the founder's trip to India back in 2010. Their rug styles aren't entirely unique and there aren't as many beautiful, classy rugs here as you'll find elsewhere. Many of the sizes of certain rugs are sold out or unavailable too. However, prices are very reasonable and everything ships free which is great. They have an "A+” Better Business Bureau and some good customer reviews, so we're not worried about this retailer's reputation. Super Area Rugs winds up with a "just average” rating from us.
Rug & Rugs doesn't give a lot of information about themselves on their website. They have a selection of less than 200 Persian, Afghan, flat weave, Oriental, and tribal baloch rugs, some of which were out-of-stock. We don't like that each rug only comes in one size, making this a more rigid place to shop. Rug & Rugs is not rated by the Better Business Bureau, has hardly any customer reviews, and doesn't even sell rugs that are far different from what we've seen elsewhere. We can only give Rug & Rugs a lower rating until we see more shopper feedback and a broader selection of rugs.
Burke Decor has a huge selection of rugs and all other types of furniture and home decor. Their website and products are beautiful, although not entirely unique. There are over 3,700 rugs here to choose from, but at this point we don't think they are worth exploring: Burke Decor's return policy includes a 5% restocking fee, on top of having an "F” rating from the Better Business Bureau and low ratings from customers. This company has a lot of adjustments to make in order to get back on their feet with buyer satisfaction and they've earned one of our lowest ratings.
Mother Ruggers has jumped on the bandwagon of machine-washable rugs, first pioneered by some of their competitors with much bigger inventories. The idea of being able to throw your rug into the washing machine and have it come freshly clean is appealing. Unfortunately, Mother Ruggers only had two rugs in stock when we were shopping, so they left us hanging. If they had a bigger inventory, we'd be happy since they have a 2-3 year warranty on their rugs, allow 30 day returns, and all orders ship free. Mother Ruggers doesn't have much by way of customer reviews, so this is another downside that has earned them the lowest rating on our list of rug stores.
You'll find tens of thousands of choices on the internet, so it's important to find a website that helps you narrow down what could be an overwhelming selection. You'll be able to input the colors, patterns, size, material, and shape that you've got in mind and have exactly what you're looking for right at your fingertips.
It can be hard to choose between so many beautiful rugs, so some companies let you upload a photo of the room you're decorating and visualize it before making a purchase. Some high-end rug stores also have specialists you can chat with who can help you make the right selection. Not all of us feel confident in our interior design skills, so it's a big help to get second opinions.
Even after thoughtful deliberation, you may still purchase a rug you're not in love with. Once you lay it out in your room, you usually have at least 30 days to return it for either a full refund or an exchange. Be sure to read the fine print about each rug company and see if they offer free returns or if you'll have to fork out the money to send a potentially heavy and large rug back. That could be expensive!
Rugs are one of the most exciting things to shop for when you're sprucing up a space. You can even change them out to decorate for different holidays and seasonal decor. So if you can't decide on just one rug you want, you have our permission to splurge and buy a few. When you're browsing selections online, keep the following things in mind:
