Burke Decor is named after its founder, Erin Burke. She found it difficult to source decor she needed on her commercial development projects and decided to open a home decor business online where customers could access quality, high-style design. Burke Decor launched in 2007 and is guided by a group of designers and stylists who source interesting and beautiful products across a variety of genres to make every home beautiful.

Classy, formal rugs

Burke Decor has a gorgeous collection of furniture, tableware, lighting, bedding, wallpaper, candles, and rugs. There are 3,779 rugs at Burke Decor. You won't find anything cheesy and cheap-looking here, but rather classy, beautiful rugs that fit a more formal style. You can sort the selection by type (indoor/outdoor, runners, rugs), designers, brand, price, material, color, size, shape, style, and features. If you have an idea of what you want, it shouldn't be too hard to quickly find all the choices that meet your criteria.

Prices not for the faint of heart

If you sign up for Burke Decor's email list, you'll get a code for 15% off your order. This offer is available as soon as you reach their website, so take advantage if that's something you're interested in. Rugs range from $18.90 for a small runner to $18,164 for a hand-knotted 10' x 14' rug. Shipping is free on orders over $50, which means most rugs will qualify. If you're looking for a rug that's 5' x 8' or bigger, you should plan on spending at least a couple hundred dollars.

Funky rugs are few and far between

Although Burke Decor mostly has pretty, neutral-colored rugs, they do have some fun and funky patterns as well. We found some rugs without clean, straight edges, but rather non-traditional shaped edges with multiple colors woven throughout. We also found a cute panda-face rug that would make an adorable addition to a baby nursery. The majority of rugs come in circle, rectangle, or square shapes in colors like white, taupe, gray, and black with small geometric prints, florals, or stripes. But, if you're in the market for bright, unique-looking rugs, Burke Decor won't be the most fruitful place to look.

Pricey returns

For each rug you select, you'll see plenty of details about how it was made, what type of foot traffic it can handle, how to care for it, and what rug pad is recommended. Most shipping times are listed as 5-10 days and Burke Decor accepts returns within 30 days from the delivery date. The big bummer about returns here is that they charge a 5% fee deducted from your credit and customers are responsible for the cost to send back their products. This is a big deterrent for us since it makes it feel more risky to make any purchases: you'll pay whether or not you keep your order.

Curb your excitement

Any excitement we had over the rug selection at Burke Decor came to a quick stop when we saw that they have an "F” rating by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This is accompanied by an alert for a pattern of complaints from customers who placed orders and never received them and had difficulties receiving refunds. This is ultimately the worst thing that could happen when buying from a company. The BBB met with a company representative who said they are working to resolve these issues. As of the time of this review, Burke Decor's customer reviews were concerningly low and it does not seem like they've gotten their processes figured out. Because of this, we unfortunately recommend steering clear of this company even though they have some gorgeous rugs.

Not worth the risk

There is a lot of potential at Burke Decor. They have a pretty selection that would surely match the taste of many people and be a great accent in most rooms. However, for the price you might pay for some of these rugs, it's not worth the risk of not receiving your items like some people have experienced. Burke Decor has earned a corresponding low rating from us.

Where is the Best Place to Purchase a Rug Online?

When you're putting finishing touches on a room you're decorating, adding a rug can be a major statement piece. It can tie all the colors and accents in a room together while cozying up your space. Whether you want a bold, noticeable rug or just one for practicality to protect some of your flooring, you could spend hours looking through all the options out there. Rugs come in all sizes, materials, and levels of cushion.

The perfect rug is out there, you just have to know where to find it. But there's no need to spend hours or even days driving around to all the stores in the area looking at the rugs they have to offer. These days, most stores only carry a handful or so of rug styles and sizes, so the only way to get a wide variety of designs and sizes that can adapt to your space is to shop online.

Rug Store FAQ

Great question! Start by measuring the area you'd like to cover. Next, determine what patterns or colors you're looking for: are you making a bold statement or trying to quietly complement the rest of your decor? Finally, decide on your budget! From there, you can use the filtering options on most rug websites to narrow down the possibilities and find your perfect match.
Buying your rug online puts the world's best selection at your fingertips. Inventory at local stores can be extremely limited, so use the internet to get exactly what you want - probably at the best price! You can also get plenty of helpful information to guide your decision-making, like the differences between handmade and machine-made rugs or Oriental and Persian rugs, how to clean a rug, and so on.
You might be nervous about buying your next rug online, sight unseen. Don't be! You'll find ample descriptions on most retailers' websites to help you picture exactly what you're getting. But, if your rug is delivered and it's just not what you were expecting, most stores have a return policy of at least 30 days. Just be aware that you may have to pay a restocking fee and/or return shipping costs, depending on the retailer.
How does "$0” sound? The vast majority of online rug stores offer free shipping within the lower 48 United States (and a small number extend that to Alaska and Hawaii as well!).
Whatever you do, don't pull on the thread/fiber! Clip it at the source instead.
The longevity of any rug depends on several factors: how well it's made and what it's made of, how much traffic the area gets (e.g. pets, people, furniture), and where it's placed. The highest-quality rugs can last long enough to become a family heirloom, with the proper care.
It's not strictly necessary, but it's a good idea. Using a rug pad will protect the flooring underneath, add extra cushioning, and also offer better traction so that your rug doesn't slip around on the floor.
Regular upkeep includes vacuuming once a week to remove any dirt and dust, assuming you have the type of rug that can be vacuumed at all! Smaller rugs can be taken outside and shaken. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for your rug, which may include a professional cleaning every few years.

Continued from above...

You'll find tens of thousands of choices on the internet, so it's important to find a website that helps you narrow down what could be an overwhelming selection. You'll be able to input the colors, patterns, size, material, and shape that you've got in mind and have exactly what you're looking for right at your fingertips.

It can be hard to choose between so many beautiful rugs, so some companies let you upload a photo of the room you're decorating and visualize it before making a purchase. Some high-end rug stores also have specialists you can chat with who can help you make the right selection. Not all of us feel confident in our interior design skills, so it's a big help to get second opinions.

Even after thoughtful deliberation, you may still purchase a rug you're not in love with. Once you lay it out in your room, you usually have at least 30 days to return it for either a full refund or an exchange. Be sure to read the fine print about each rug company and see if they offer free returns or if you'll have to fork out the money to send a potentially heavy and large rug back. That could be expensive!

Rugs are one of the most exciting things to shop for when you're sprucing up a space. You can even change them out to decorate for different holidays and seasonal decor. So if you can't decide on just one rug you want, you have our permission to splurge and buy a few. When you're browsing selections online, keep the following things in mind:

  • Selection. Does the company give you plenty of design variations, sizes, and color options? To find the perfect rug, you need as many options to choose from as possible. Find a retailer that has a huge inventory but also makes it easy to sort through it all.
  • Return policy. How long do you have to decide whether or not you are satisfied with the rug? Does the company offer free returns? Ideally you'll want to avoid restocking fees, so watch out for these as well.
  • Customer satisfaction. What have customers said about the company? Do they have reviews on each individual rug with photos from other buyers? Pay attention to the Better Business Bureau rating for the company and reviews from people on third-party sites.

You're about to dive into a huge world of rugs you never even knew existed. Top Consumer Reviews has researched everything you need to know about the best rug companies you can buy from online. We hope this information helps you find beautiful rugs that make a great addition to your space.
