If you want a shopping experience without all the frills, you may want to try the new Designer-Rug site. With very little fanfare, the site allows you to jump directly to what interests you: Rugs by Color, Size, Material, Style, or you can also browse other categories like Lighting, Pillows & Throws, and more.
We were a little confused by the site's approach - maybe a little bit too understated for our liking. We loved the 20% off all orders coupon code featured prominently on the main page, and browsing through the available rugs gives the impression that their product selection is suitably varied.
However, we would have liked to see more information about Designer-Rugs on that main page as well. Maybe because the site is newer and hasn't developed the brand as thoroughly yet as other retailers, we felt that the site left us wondering about the business itself. Interestingly, as we looked through the website, we found that Designer-Rugs is the newest brand in the Burke Decor family - which definitely adds to Designer-Rugs image, in our book. Burke Decor has an excellent track record for customer service (as seen by their high ranking in the Rugs category of our reviews), and that leads us to hope for equally good things as Designer-Rugs gets established.
As a Burke Decor brand, DR's policies are the same: orders over $50 ship for free within the 48 contiguous United States, while orders under $50 have a flat-rate shipping cost of $7. Also, returns must be postmarked within 30 days of original delivery, and you'll pay both the costs of return shipping, the cost of the original shipping, and a 5% return fee.
Because Designer-Rug is so new, it's hard to tell how they're doing in the customer satisfaction department. We reasonably hope that they'll be on par with Burke Decor's attention to customer service and product quality. But, for now, the lack of actual customer feedback for Designer-Rug means that our rating is primarily based on the expectation of positive things because of DR's parent company. This rating should increase as we see those good things come from Designer-Rug itself.
Do you want to transform the look and feel of a room or patio in just one easy step? Consider buying a rug! Whether you're looking to add some style to your deck or to make your hardwood floors warmer in the colder months, a rug will help you add color and comfort to any space.
The first step in choosing the right rug is to take an accurate measurement of the floor you want to cover, especially if you're shopping for an area rug. Home decor experts state that one of the most common mistakes people make is to purchase a rug that is too small - known as "postage-stamp" sizing.
Area rugs generally come in three standard sizes - 9' x 12', 8' x 10', and 6' x 9', and you should aim to have between 4-6 inches of bare floor on each side.Of course, if your room needs a size that doesn't fall within those standard measurements, you may want to have a rug custom-made to meet your needs. You should expect to pay a little more than you would for a mass-produced floor covering, but it may be worth it to get the exact size, materials, and color scheme that will be the perfect match for your home.
The next decision should be the texture of your rug. For an outdoor space, you'll be looking at more durable materials like sisal or jute, while an indoor rug usually will be made of a softer material like wool or silk. You'll also want to keep in mind the amount of traffic your rug will get, and choose a material and texture accordingly. For example, while a silk rug is incredibly soft and gorgeous to look at, it is also notoriously difficult to clean and might not be the best choice for an area frequently used by pets or small children.
Finally, decide what color and/or pattern will convey the look you want. In a room primarily decorated in neutral colors, a rug with a bold color or design can add interest and flair, while an eclectically-furnished space can be toned down and pulled together by a solid-color rug. Another interior decorating tip to consider is layering rugs: adding warmth and comfort when it's colder out and making for an easy change in look when spring and summer return.
Once you have an idea of the rug you're looking for, shopping online will make it easier than ever to find it - and at prices that are often much lower than what you'd pay at a local retailer. As you decide which online store should get your business, keep in mind these criteria:
