Whether it be from falling off your bike as a kid, burning yourself in the kitchen, getting in a car accident, or having surgery, there are endless ways we all end up with scars. If your scar came as a result of a really cool story, maybe you'll even want to wear it as a badge of honor. However, this is rarely the case and most of the time we want smooth skin that looks unblemished.
Scars are the result of our body healing wounds. Even though they aren't very pretty, scars are the aftermath of the amazing way our body heals itself. When the dermis (deep layer of skin) is damaged, the body produces new collagen fibers to mend the damage and close the skin back up. This area of healing will look a bit different than the original surrounding skin, thus resulting in an obvious scar.

Customers are instructed to roll the product over their scars three times per day and gently massage the oil into their skin. For the dropper bottle, customers should apply 1-3 drops three times per day. Pregnant and/or breast-feeding women should consult a doctor before use, and Scar Control should not be used for children under the age of 2.
Products ship for free from Forces of Nature when customers spend $39 or more. Since Scar Control comes in a fairly small bottle (.14 oz or .37 oz), if you plan to use it long-term, it might be a good idea to buy two or more bottles to get free shipping and then you won't have to re-order for a while. The .14 oz rollerball product is $12.95, while the .37 oz is $25.95.

For such an affordable price, we recommend Scar Control as the best scar cream.
H-Scars Formula is a homeopathic product made by Healing Natural Oils, a company with a perfect A+ from the Better Business Bureau. H-Scars Formula comes in a bottle containing pure, essential oils. Users of H-Scars Formula are instructed to apply the 1-2 drops of the oil topically using their finger or a Q-Tip 3 times per day. Results vary, but are typically seen after 6-8 weeks of use. Affordable price, money-back guarantee
For a 11 mL bottle of H-Scars Formula, the cost is $33.95. If you choose to upgrade to a 33 mL bottle, the cost is $69.95, which is a better deal. 6 main ingredients
H-Scars formula is advertised as an all-natural product, so the ingredients are plant-derived and can be viewed on the website. The ingredients include:
Great customer reviews
Hundreds of customers have reported positive results after having used the H-Scars Formula. Reviews on the company website rank the scar reduction product as a 4.6 out of 5 stars. Customers report fading scars after consistent use and add that the product also has a good smell.
Based on the positive feedback from people with both old and new scars, we feel H-Scars Formula is a great option. With natural ingredients, it is both safe to use (except when nursing or pregnant) and reduces the visibility of most scars overtime.
ZENMED got its start in 1999 and believes in creating naturally-based skincare products that are cruelty-free and 100% doctor-formulated. Their one product focused on scarring, The Skin Eraser Kit, primarily targets scars and skin discoloration that result from acne, aging, and sun damage.
This system uses a chemical peel-type approach to improving the skin's appearance, particularly on the face, along with a walnut shell-based scrub to exfoliate the skin. At a price point of $59.99 for a two-month supply, free shipping for orders over $50, and a 60-day satisfaction guarantee, customers can essentially try The Skin Eraser Kit risk-free.
ZENMED's site is very easy to use, though we were puzzled by the section entitled "Recent comments from our Facebook wall" that only had posts from 2013 and earlier. Their actual Facebook site is up-to-date. We also were not able to find a Better Business Bureau rating for ZENMED.
As with most scar creams and skin care products, results vary. Many customers express satisfaction with not only the results of The Skin Eraser Kit but also how long the products last, well beyond the two-month supply indicated by the manufacturer. Others, particularly with darker skin or who attempted to use The Skin Eraser to handle scars from injuries, didn't see the improvements in their skin tone and appearance that they were seeking.
Good for acne, sun damage, and aging
Because of the 60-day satisfaction guarantee, we can recommend ZENMED for customers specifically looking for an esthetician-style peel and scrub system to fight scarring resulting from acne, sun damage, and aging. For those who want to improve the appearance of other types of scars, however, we suggest that they consider one of our other highly-rated products that specifically target that type of skin damage.
Scar Recovery Gel is sold by Dermstore, a skin care company that sells over 400 brands of skin and hair products. The Scar Recovery Gel is meant to reduce the appearance of red or pink scars. For optimal results, customers are instructed to apply a thin layer of the gel to their scars twice a day until the scar matures and appears flat and white without redness.
Not a cheap purchase
Customers can either purchase a .5 oz or 2 oz tube of Scar Recovery Gel with free shipping. A one-time purchase of the .5 oz tube is $44. To save on the product, Dermstore offers a 15% discount for subscriptions to the product, making it $37.40 instead. With the subscription, a tube or Scar Recovery Gel is sent on a set delivery schedule. The one-time purchase of a 2 oz tube of Scar Recovery Gel is $102, unless customers opt for the subscription plan, which makes it $86.70. No matter how you do it, Scar Recovery Gel is not a cheap purchase.
30 day refund
For a full refund, customers can return their products from Dermstore within 30 days. If customers choose to exchange within this time frame rather than opt for their money back, Dermstore will pay for the return shipping label. All exchanges carry a 60 day return window.
7 key ingredients
Scar Recovery Gel is paraben-free and dermatologist approved (not that this means much or carries a lot of weight). The key ingredients in the gel are:
Dermstore receives an A- rating from the Better Business Bureau. Plus, unfiltered reviews for Scar Recovery Gel can be viewed below the product description. At the time of this review, there were 12 total reviews from customers on the gel. All reviews were either 4/5 stars or 5/5 stars, which is reassuring. Many customers report that even though Scar Recovery Gel is pricey, it is worth the cost because of how well it works. If you're willing to pay a little more than the cost of some competing products, we think Scar Recovery Gel is a good option.
Enessa is a company that offers hundreds of skin care products including cleansers, toners, sun protection, serums, elixirs, moisturizers, and more. Their diminish scar cream elixir comes in a small, 15 ml bottle for $62. It is claimed to have certified organic ingredients known for their high content of vitamin E and essential fatty acids to stimulate skin health and smooth skin.
Certified organic scar cream
An easy-to-find ingredient list tells us that this certified organic scar cream includes components like rosehip, jojoba, sunflower, seaberry, fennel, and other ingredients that are frequently found in skin-healing formulas. The company boasts that unlike other certified organic skin care products, Enessa uses only unrefined oils and chooses not to include any ingredients that might have the chance of irritating skin, regardless of how "clean" it might be. Most Enessa products, including the diminish scar cream, are safe for pregnancy.
Scars up to 6 months old
To use Enessa, customers are instructed to massage one drop on affected areas 2-3 times per day. It is to be used on scars up to 6 months old. Nothing on the product description gives an idea as to how soon this scar cream might start showing results.
At the time of this review, there was only one product review for the Enessa scar cream on their website. It was a 5-star review suggesting that the Enessa products are great. This customer said they always email the Enessa team when they have a question and they get an answer within 2 days. However, we are unsure if this review was left specifically for the scar cream product, or if this customer is reviewing Enessa products as a whole. Customer feedback outside of the Enessa website is hard to find.
30 day exchange policy
If customers feel are unsatisfied with their Enessa product, they have 30 days to exchange it for another item. Since their policy mentions nothing of refunds, we can assume that once money is spent on Enessa's site, you won't be getting it back regardless of the situation.
We are mostly impressed with Enessa's commitment to hold their products to a higher standard than is required to receive the USDA certified organic seal. We trust that their skin care line, including the diminish scar cream, is pure and will not cause irritation. We would like to see more customer feedback to get a better idea of how effective the scar cream is, though. For such a small bottle, Enessa scar diminish cream is expensive, so it might be wise to first try a higher-rated scar reduction product that has more customers standing behind it.
Dermefface FX7 was developed as part of the Skinception line by Dr. Dave David, a Board Certified Gynecologist of over 32 years. Dr. David has appeared in Time magazine as a leading aesthetic surgeon, served as a medical news analyst on NECN, made appearances on NBC, The Food Network, CNN, and Fox, and has been a guest on many talk shows. Dr. David formulated the Skinception line to help patients who aren't good candidates for surgery, lasers, or injectables.
67 day return policy
The makers of Dermefface FX7 claim the cream reduces the appearance of scars within just 4 weeks of use. Best results come in 3-4 months for minor surface scars while deep surgery or injury scars may take at least 6 months. A 67-day, no questions asked return policy is in place for customers who feel they are not getting any results from the product.
7 active ingredients, but what are they?
Using "scar-fade technology" Dermefface FX7 uses 7 clinically proven active ingredients, 10 potent antioxidants, and 5 super moisturizers to work on every layer of the skin to diminish blemishes. As far as what these specific ingredients are, unfortunately we aren't sure since the website does not list them. We wish they were more transparent about what is in the Dermefface FX7 cream. The idea is that those mysterious ingredients fast-track healing, push scarred cells to the surface to be sloughed away, and increase the production of normal cells to replace the scarred cells.
Little customer feedback
Based on the little customer feedback out there, it appears that Dermefface FX7 works best for small, fresh scars rather than ones that have been affecting one's skin for months or even years. For those who choose to order, Dermefface FX7 can be purchased in a one-month ($59.95), three-month ($129.95), or six-month ($199.95) supply. Bonus gifts are included depending on the amount of Dermefface FX7 purchased. Bonus gifts are a loofah exfoliator, health source $25 gift card, and/or microderm facial exfoliator. Purchases over $150 ship free.
Overall, it seems like Dermefface FX7 is a science-based scar cream that has good potential. It would be nice if there was more customer feedback on the product to see what people experience when using it. They list that they have 50 reviews rating them 4 out of 5 stars on the website, but the actual reviews are nowhere to be found to ensure legitimacy. Dermefface FX7 is not only hard to find feedback for, but also a bit pricier than some of their competitors. They aren't necessarily a bad choice for buying scar cream, but they definitely aren't our first.
Lucent Skin is one of many skin care products made by Revitol. It was formulated to help customers get rid of unsightly scars at an affordable price. Revitol claims that Lucent Skin is clinically proven and made with natural ingredients, but they do not list the ingredients anywhere on the website. What is listed on the page for Lucent Skin is a sales pitch and some filtered reviews.
Revitol basically claims that Lucent Skin works to remove all types of scars. Whether they are old or new, on oily or dry skin, an acne scar or the result of a surgical incision, supposedly Lucent Skin can erase them all. Since only four filtered reviews are shown on the website, we don't really know if all the claims about Lucent Skin's magic ability to erase scars is true.
What we do know is that Lucent Skin is pricey. For one bottle, customers will pay $59.95. This is only a trial offer, meaning the purchase of one bottle signs you up for an auto ship program where you'll be sent another container every 30 days and charged $59.95 each time. Unless customers cancel by calling customer service, they will keep being charged and shipped new Lucent Skin products. What is even more ridiculous is that Revitol does not even tell customers the size of the Lucent Skin cream. The picture online makes the container appear to be about 1 fl. Oz, but unless you purchase it, there is no way to know for sure. Other options for buying Lucent Skin include a buy 2, get 1 free option for $119.90 or buy 3, get 3 free for $179.85. These last two packages do not sign customers up for the auto ship program.
90 day guarantee
A 90-day guarantee is in place that allows customers to get a full refund if they don't see "dramatic results" after using Lucent Skin. If it were up to us, we would avoid the hassle of having to send the product back by not buying it in the first place. Revitol has given us few reasons to trust their product by giving minimal information, expensive pricing, and an unappealing sales page. Your best bet is to stick with a higher-rated scar cream, rather than purchasing Lucent Skin.
Scars do begin to naturally heal over a few years and even lose some discoloration, but they never completely disappear. Depending on the size, color, and location of the scar, most people want to erase the obvious appearance of the healing skin as fast as possible. Luckily, there are many over-the-counter solutions to hide these scars faster than waiting years for them to slowly start to fade.
