On the Cameron's Seafood website

If you're craving authentic Maryland blue crabs and want them delivered straight to your door, Cameron's Seafood offers exactly what you're looking for. You'll be getting seafood from a family-owned business that's been perfecting their craft since 1985, with their crabs caught fresh daily from the Chesapeake Bay and prepared in their USDA-approved facilities. While they do offer other seafood options, their True Blue certification and decades of experience with Maryland blue crabs really set them apart. On the Sea 2 Table website

Sea to Table advertises get wild-caught fish from US fisheries delivered straight to your door, with detailed labeling that includes catch methods and vessel names. While the company emphasizes their family business values, they've recently shifted to a corporate-coded subscription model that's caused some customer frustration, particularly around gift card policies and customer service responsiveness. We give Sea to Table a middle of the road rating, and recommend exploring other seafood delivery services first.

2.5

On the Sitka Seafood Mart website

If you're looking to have premium wild-caught Alaskan seafood delivered to your door, Sitka Seafood Market's subscription service may not be your best bet despite their admirable sustainability practices and direct-from-fishermen sourcing. While they might appeal to someone who prioritizes supporting small-boat fishing operations and environmental consciousness, the combination of high prices, inconsistent portion sizes, limited selection in curated boxes, and concerning quality control issues make this service hard to justify for the average seafood lover. We and recommend exploring other seafood delivery services first.

On the Giovanni's Fish Market website

While Giovanni's Fish Market offers an impressive variety of fresh seafood at reasonable prices with convenient shipping options, we cannot recommend purchasing from them due to extremely serious ethical concerns surrounding the owner and business practices. If you're looking for high-quality seafood delivery, you have other options that don't come with the baggage of troubling legal issues and questionable approaches to sustainability. Despite the seemingly good value and product quality, our recommendation is a firm "avoid" - the charges against the owner are simply too severe to justify supporting this business.

On the Vital Choice website

You may want to steer clear of Vital Choice. While they were once a trusted source for premium seafood, their acquisition by 1-800-Flowers has led to serious quality control issues, shipping problems, and customer service nightmares that make ordering from them a risky proposition. Between inconsistent cuts, thawed deliveries, and concerning reviews about mysterious charges, this service isn't worth your money or the hassle. We strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your seafood needs.

On the Sizzlefish website

Looking for high-quality seafood delivered to your door? You'll want to stay away from Sizzlefish. Despite their impressive-sounding 30-year history and seemingly extensive catalog, this service has taken a dramatic nosedive in quality, with numerous reports of spoiled products, shipping mishaps, and combative customer service. While they might have once been a reliable option for seafood lovers, today's Sizzlefish isn't worth the risk - especially given their premium pricing and deceptively limited selection. Our recommendation: with a steep plunge in our ratings (down from our previous 5 stars), we strongly advise not relying on Sizzlefish for your seafood subscription needs.

On the Rastelli's website

If you're hoping to find high-quality meat and seafood delivered to your door, Rastelli's isn't the service for you - or anyone, really. While they tout themselves as a premium subscription box service with wild-caught seafood and quality meats, the reality is quite different - customers consistently report receiving spoiled products with poor customer service response. You'd be better off shopping at your local grocery store or seeking out a more reliable delivery service that actually stands behind their products.

POOR

1.0

On the Global Seafoods website

We would not touch Global Seafoods with a 10-foot fishing pole. Their website's poor design and AI-generated product images are just the tip of the iceberg - what's really concerning is their track record of delivering spoiled products and responding to complaints with threats rather than solutions. While they claim to offer a wide variety of seafood including premium options like sashimi-grade tuna and live Dungeness crab, their questionable practices and abysmal customer service (1.6 stars on Trustpilot) make them a risky choice for anyone wanting reliable seafood delivery. Our recommendation: hard pass on Global Seafoods. There are much better seafood delivery services available that won't leave you with spoiled fish and hostile customer service representatives.

What is the Best Seafood Delivery Service?

If you've ever craved fresh seafood despite living far from the coast, or if you're tired of limited (and not quite fresh) options at your local grocery store, we have good news. Online seafood services can solve all those problems by delivering restaurant-quality fish and shellfish directly to your door.

No matter who you are - whether a busy professional wanting regular deliveries of healthy protein or a foodie seeking specialty items like sashimi-grade tuna or live Dungeness crab - there's a seafood delivery service out there for you. They're also perfect for planning special occasions when you want to serve premium seafood without hunting through multiple stores.

When it comes to online seafood retailers, there's more going on beneath the surface than you might think. The industry broadly falls into three categories, each with its own quirks.

Traditional subscription services dress themselves up in heartwarming "family business" marketing while operating massive corporate distribution centers - they'll send you regular "curated" boxes of seafood, which sounds fancy but often means whatever they have in surplus that month.

Wholesale services are more straightforward - they focus on bulk orders and better per-pound pricing, though you'll need freezer space and usually a minimum order of $200+ to qualify for free shipping.

Finally, there are the actual family-owned seafood businesses. These operations might be smaller-scale, but their customer service tends to be much more on the ball, and you can order with confidence that you'll receive the quality you've been promised when it's been promised. The key is looking past the marketing to understand who's really catching, processing, and shipping your seafood.

Here are some things to help you determine where you should shop:

Seafood Company FAQ

What is seafood?
If it's aquatic and edible, it's probably classified as seafood. This includes crustaceans like lobsters and shrimp, mollusks such as clams and oysters, plus most varieties of fish.
What's the difference between farm-raised and wild-caught seafood?
The clue is in the name: one type is raised similar to livestock, while the other is caught out in open waters. Farm-raised seafood is often considered more sustainable than wild-caught and is usually less expensive.
Why would I order seafood online?
Have you ever gone to the supermarket and caught a whiff of that fishy smell? That usually means that the seafood isn't fresh. Buying it online shortens the process from catch to consumption, eliminating many of the middle steps of transportation and shelving that lead to less flavorful seafood.
How is the seafood packed and shipped so that it arrives in good condition?
Online seafood companies take great care to carefully prepare and package your delivery. Boxes often include cold packs and insulation to make sure it's in perfect shape when it arrives at your doorstep.
Is shipping expensive?
Sometimes. It depends on the seafood company you select and how much you order. Some retailers offer free shipping with a certain minimum order amount.
Can I get any extras with my seafood order?
That's where the fun really starts. How about a paella dinner box, some chowder or dessert to go along with your seafood? There are so many options you can include to really round out your special occasion meal or just for the halibut. (Sorry.)
I'm not a great chef. Can I get precooked seafood?
Yes, and your dinner guests thank you for asking. Most online seafood retailers have both raw and prepared choices among their seafood offerings. When you get a little more confident in your abilities, trust that you'll be able to find plenty of step-by-step instruction - either included with your delivery or on the website (or both).
Can I send seafood as a gift?
Please and thank you! While not every online seafood store has robust gift-giving options, some want to make it as easy as possible to send a delightful gift to your lucky recipient. From oil/vinegar samplers to dark chocolate or even just a gift card to spend as they like, your loved ones will appreciate your thoughtfulness. You can usually include a personalized note to accompany the delivery; just look for that feature during the checkout process.
