When someone we love needs extra help in their older age, we would go to the ends of the earth to find them the best place and people to care for them.
As much as we would love to have time 24/7 to provide everything they need, we often must resort to getting outside help for our elderly friends and family members in order for them to get the full attention they deserve. Not only might they need medical care, but also help with their finances, personal hygiene, shopping assistance, and help getting around.

Care offers 24/7 support for help with errands, transportation, medical aid, and companionship. Users can post a job describing what and who they are looking for to care for their elderly loved one and caregivers can respond directly to offer their services. There are many caregivers who use Care, so there is a good chance that users will find someone they like in their local area to provide assistance. The pricing is reasonable for their services, so we highly recommend using them to find a caregiver.
With over 700 locations worldwide, Comfort Keepers is a flourishing service that offers non-medical assistance to the elderly. They are a recognized industry leader in senior care services and serve in over 13 countries and 46 states in the US. Each office is independently owned and operated, so pricing is dependent on the chosen service and location of the client. You'll also need to contact your local office to be matched with a caregiver. It is harder to find direct information on Comfort Keeper's website than on our higher-rated senior care sites, which is a pain. However, they are a reputable, well-established company, so they still earn a fairly high rating from us.
Visiting Angels has over 600 locations throughout the United States, making them accessible to most individuals needing senior care. They focus on in-home services to help the elderly avoid living in a senior facility while also getting assistance with day-to-day needs. Some people have had bad experiences with the caregivers from their local Visiting Angels franchise, but we imagine this is not the case everywhere. Visiting Angels has the makings of high-quality senior assistance services, so we recommend trying out a free consultation with them.
Right at Home is a series of franchised locations around most of the United States that provide in-home care services to elderly and disabled adults. With over 500 locations, most individuals in highly populated areas will find care near them. Right at Home has a professional website where you can explore care options and processes for in-home care. However, customers will need to contact their local office directly to get information on staffing, availability, pricing, and location-specific services. They seem like a reputable company, but we recommend clients decide for themselves whether Right at Home is a good fit based on their local office.
GreatAuPair matches babysitters, nannies, au pairs, tutors, and pet sitters with families in need. Their matching services work both nationally and internationally for those looking for jobs as well as those looking to employ. We do not feel that there are many matches available all around the US between senior caregivers and families, which is disappointing. Their website takes a bit of time to go through and does not offer much outside of caregiver profile searches.
Sittercity markets themselves as a platform that allows families to post job descriptions to hire nannies, babysitters, senior care companions, and pet sitters. However, we quickly realized that they have a major emphasis on childcare and almost nothing on their website gives detailed information or allows for job descriptions to hire senior caregivers. Not only is there a lack of emphasis and information for senior care, but they also have only 25 cities that they serve. We are unimpressed with their focus on helping families find senior caregivers and suggest looking elsewhere for this.
It is important for many elderly people to feel self-sufficient while also having people there to support them. This can be a hard balance, so senior care services might be as minimal as periodic in-home visits to help with medical needs, take care of shopping trips, or complete housework. Other more intensive senior care services might look like a live-in senior facility where residents have their meals prepared for them, attend planned activities, and have little personal responsibility besides just relaxing and enjoying life.
To find the right care services for your loved one, looking around online is going to be the fastest, most reliable option. It could take months to go from company to company or facility to facility to meet all the staff members, learn what they have to offer, gather pricing information, and get a feel for the quality of care they provide. Thankfully, you can browse through the many senior care websites available to gather all the information you are looking for and compare them within a matter of minutes.
There are quite a few senior care services to choose from. Before committing to a company to take care of the special, elderly person in your life, we suggest you consider the following things:
