After finding themselves puzzled about where their meat came from and how it was raised, the founders of FarmFoods decided to set out on their own journey of transparency. Their aim is to do a better job for customers looking for safe, healthy meats for their families.

Newer company

FarmFoods isn't a very old company, having just originated in 2018. They aim to move away from the anonymous, mass-produced model of supplying food that we've become so accustomed to. The three key things FarmFoods revolves around are first, knowing how your beef was raised and the principles the farmer follows; second, having confidence that your meat is both high quality and affordable; and, third, having the flexibility to choose the meats that are right for your family and budget.

Low stock

At FarmFoods, you'll have your pick of grass-fed beef, pasture-raised chicken, heritage pork, turkey, and wild caught seafood. You can read about some of the farms these come from straight on the website. There are 13 options for steaks alone including grass-fed filet mignon tenderloin, boneless New York steak, boneless ribeye steak, London broil steak, flank steak, hanger steak, and more. We were shopping during the first week of the month and noticed that 9 of the 13 cuts were already sold out. This either means this is a well-liked company with a lot of subscribers and customers who quickly order as soon as certain cuts come available, or FarmFoods doesn't have a big enough quantity of steak to keep their stock up.

Buy single steaks or subscribe to recurrent deliveries

If you want to sign up for emails from FarmFoods, they'll send you a code for 10% off your next order. This could save you a good amount of money, so it's worth doing. Prices for steak range from $7.95 for a 5-7 oz grass-fed beef eye of round steak to $42.95 for 2-3 lbs. of grass-fed beef sirloin bavette/flap steak. If you wanted to subscribe to deliveries every 2, 4, 6, or 8 weeks, you'd save 10% on each product. There are value packs of salmon, beef, or pork starting at $76.95 and going up to $805.60 if you want to buy meats in larger quantities.

Steep shipping fees

When you spend over $125 from FarmFoods, your order will ship free. For orders between $99 and $125, shipping costs $30.99 and for any order under $99, you'll be paying $59.99 for shipping. At that point, you might as well just pay to add more meat to your order instead of forking out the money for that steep shipping.

7-day satisfaction guarantee

Since the foods sold by FarmFoods are perishable (they come frozen and vacuum-sealed), you can't return them for a refund. However, if you're unhappy with your delivery for any reason, you can contact the company within 7 days of the date you received your products and they'll either be replaced for free or provide a full or partial refund.

Lousy customer reviews

FarmFoods has been featured by Business Insider, Forbes, Food & Wine, and Kitchn. They don't have a Better Business Bureau profile, but we did find quite a few unfortunate customer reviews about the company. Customers and even some ex-employees warned that delivery timeframes are not dependable, customer service is nearly impossible to work with, food quality is not consistent, and more. People who are really satisfied with FarmFoods primarily tend to be people who shop at their in-person location. Those who have done online orders tend to run into major problems, so that's a red flag for us.

It's a risk

FarmFoods has a respectable mission and we like the idea behind transparency of farmers and suppliers about the life cycle of our food. Unfortunately, the selection of steaks here is underwhelming, since their already small inventory was mostly sold out. Their shipping fees are high for those who aren't looking to stock up on steak, and their customer reviews definitely scared us off. When there are so many high quality steak companies online, it's best to stick with those instead of risking your money with a supplier like FarmFoods.

Which Steak Company is the Best?

Whether you're in a warm climate and anxious to start grilling up your favorite meats for your friends and family or want to make a classy, cozy, indoor home-cooked meal with some high-quality steaks, you'll need the right place to get them from. We don't all live close to a farm with a local butcher on call to supply us with all the cuts of beef we want, but that doesn't mean we can't keep our fridge and freezer stocked with juicy, sustainably-sourced, grass-fed ribeye or filet mignon.

Knowing where your food comes from is important, and it's easiest when you have highly-rated companies you can learn and buy from. Buying steaks online can actually be a much smarter way to shop since you can vet the company and get more information on the meat you're buying, rather than if you just grabbed something off a shelf at your local store.

Steak Company FAQ

Definitely not! Why rely on your local supermarket's less-than impressive cuts when you can get the best sirloin, Porterhouse, filet mignon or T-bone - delivered right to your doorstep!
If you can name it, you can get it online. Angus? Aye. Wagyu and Kobe? Hai. And, companies that specialize in delivering steak know how to package it perfectly so it arrives fresh.
As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. When buying steak online, you'll tend to find the more premium cuts and grades of meat, but there are plenty of deals that make it affordable to get an unforgettable meal.
Most retailers offering food delivery understand that sometimes things go wrong in transit. If your steak arrives in less-than-perfect condition, you'll probably get a new shipment at no extra charge. Or, the store may give you a full refund or a store credit. Policies vary, so be sure you look for the company's satisfaction policy if you're concerned.
That depends. Steak can be ordered a la carte, and shipping costs usually depend on the size of your order. Some companies offer subscription clubs that deliver your meat on a regular, scheduled basis; with those plans, shipping is often included at no extra charge.
Yes! Can you think of a better way of making sure that you have a delicious steak dinner every single month? You can typically choose plans ranging from 3 to 12 months.
Depending on which store you select, you may only have cuts of beef to choose from. However, retailers that offer gift-giving options tend to have a wide range of possibilities, from seafood to desserts.
Why not? Maybe you'd love to treat your parents to a nice dinner, but they live a thousand miles away. Or you've got a hard-to-please boss and you really want to impress her at the holidays. Sending steak, a surf-and-turf combo, or a complete meal package will be a gift they'll remember.

Continued from above...

Online, you can learn how a company started, where their meat comes from, what their cattle is fed, whether or not they follow organic practices, what types of experiences customers have had with the company, and so much more. When you're browsing through all the delectable options that a steak company offers, you may be surprised to find some other great perks as well.

Many companies offer free shipping, free gifts, loyalty points, and sitewide sales. Buying meat online is probably less expensive than you'd imagine. There are also options to add on other items like chicken, pork, turkey, seasonings, dressings, desserts, and anything else you fancy. You can get days or even months worth of meals delivered straight to your doorstep.

And last but not least, while you're stocking up on steaks for yourself, think about those people in your life who are hard to find gifts for. Steaks make an enjoyable, thoughtful gift that can easily be sent to anyone you want. Steak companies carefully package and prepare the meats they send in a way that ensures their freshness upon arrival no matter how far they have to travel. Wouldn't you be excited to find top-tier beef on your porch?

There are quite a few variables that come into play when choosing where to buy steaks online. No two companies are the same, so we have come up with a short list of things to keep in mind when you're deciding who to buy from:

  • Quantity. If you're living on your own or have a small family, it's ideal to find a steak company that lets you purchase smaller quantities of meat at a time. This way you have what you want and don't overspend for extra food you don't need right away. On the other hand, if you have a big family, you'll want big portions and possibly enough to keep your freezer stocked for a rainy day. Find a company that lets you have some flexibility as far as how much meat you can buy at a time.
  • Availability. Does the steak company clearly list what meats are in stock? Are there plenty of other meats and sides you could add on if you want to get the most value out of a single order? Some companies let you subscribe to recurring deliveries of their steaks, so be sure to consider this if you want to make sure you never run out.
  • Customer satisfaction. What have other customers said about the steak company? Would they recommend it to other potential buyers? What does the Better Business Bureau rate the company?
