Choose from 2,120 different frames
Glasses USA has a competitive inventory with more than 2,000 different pairs of sunglasses. There are 1,299 styles for men and 1,360 different styles for women. Across the site, we found 23 different colors for frames, and the most popular frame shape was square which included 574 different frame options. Glasses USA offers hundreds of different sunglasses brands, including Ray-Ban, Gucci, Versace, Coach, Oakley, Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, Swarovski, and more.
Prices from $19 to $822 for frames
When we do our side-by-side pricing checks for sunglasses shops, we usually look at six different price points to keep things consistent. To get a clear picture of the costs at Glasses USA, we looked at the overall price range for all the sunglasses on the site, what it'll cost if you need to add prescription lenses, the pricing for Prada and Oakley sunglasses, how the costs compare for classic wire-rimmed frames like aviators, and how much you can expect to pay for the trending micro or "thin" cat-eye frames. Here's what we found:
Free shipping and regular promos
On top of having a dedicated sale section on Glasses USA, the site also offers regular seasonal deals and sitewide sales that provide up to 70% off select sunglasses. There was also a limited-time special that offered buy-one-get-one-free sunglasses at the time of our review. Plus, Glasses USA accepts vision insurance, making it possible for you to apply savings directly and avoid high costs for prescriptions. Finally, Glasses USA offers free shipping on all its orders, so the price you see on the listing is what you'll pay for your sunglasses.
100% money-back guarantee
Glasses USA offers a 14-day return and exchange policy. You have 14 days to request a refund, and once your sunglasses are returned, Glasses USA promises a full refund with no questions asked. The entire process is free for you, and you get your money back with zero hassle under this 100% money-back guarantee. If you prefer an exchange, you have the same timeframe to work within, and return shipping is still free.
Praise for customer-friendly returns
Glasses USA has a competitive "B" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. Plus, it has over 90,000 individual customer reviews (from verified buyers) on Trustpilot. There, Glasses USA holds a 4.4-star rating on average. Recent feedback notes that while prices (including those for sunglasses) have gone up since a few years ago, the experience of shopping with Glasses USA remained reliable and easy to navigate. Customers loved the accuracy of the virtual try-on software. Others who made returns noted that Glasses USA was polite about the return process and sent back the customers' money quickly.
A high-tech way to get a perfect fit
Glasses USA stands out for its customer-friendly policies regarding returns and refunds: not many sites in our review offer a 100% money-back guarantee. Plus, with a full range of sunglasses, including some that aren't found on other sites (like Prada), this is a great sunglasses store to find unique and trendy eyewear without breaking the bank. The experience overall is a huge bonus for most customers and a tech-savvy way to get the perfect fit, so Glasses USA comes in as our top pick with a full 5 stars.
Frames Direct is an online sunglasses store that was founded in 1996 and claims that it was the first online eyewear store to offer prescription sunglasses. With over 28 years of experience in the industry, Frames Direct promises high-quality lenses and a large selection of frames including brand-name styles. This retailer is also an authorized dealer for those name brands, buys its inventory directly from the suppliers, and does not sell any refurbished items, so you know you're getting exactly what you pay for every time. Plus with the virtual try-on feature (called "virtual mirror"), you can see the sunglasses on your face before you buy.
Choose from over 4,000 styles
Frames Direct makes good on its promise to offer a large inventory of sunglasses. There were 4,717 different products available at the time of our review. 2,452 of these styles are for men, and 2,748 are women's styles (this includes some overlap of around 400 unisex styles). You'll find tons of name-brand frames from familiar companies like Adidas, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Coach, DKNY, Fossil, Kate Spade, Oakley, and Ray-Ban. There are 19 color options to pick from, including metallics like gold and silver, traditional colors like black or brown, and fun colors like burgundy, purple, and multicolor. The frame shape with the most sunglasses options is the rectangular shape, with 1,108 different pairs. This is followed closely by square frames, which have 1,047 different options to choose from.
Prices from $40 to $1,550 per frame
While we normally compare six different pricing categories when reviewing sunglasses retailers, Frames Direct didn't offer the trendy mini or slim cat-eye styles or sunglasses from Prada, so we had to leave those out. Instead, we checked the general cost of all sunglasses at Frames Direct, what kind of prices the site offers for Oakley frames, how much extra you'll need to pay if you add prescription lenses, and how the wire frame options (like classic aviators) measure up. Here's what we found:
Free shipping and regular promotions
At the time of our review, Frames Direct was running a promo for 20% off luxury brands and 60% off on lenses. This made a lot of the Rx lenses for sunglasses much more affordable. Plus, since most of the brands on Frames Direct are luxury items, the 20% off for frames applied to most of the inventory. On top of that, Frames Direct offers free shipping to the contiguous 48 states (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), so you don't have to worry about any extra costs when you go to check out.
30-day returns with fees depending on your reason
Frames Direct offers an industry-standard 30-day return and exchange policy for sunglasses. However, there are some return shipping costs to keep an eye on. If you return or exchange an item for fit, color, size, or other "preference"-related reasons, Frames Direct will charge a $9 shipping fee when you send the sunglasses back. If your sunglasses need to be returned due to a prescription problem, you can send them back at no extra cost.
Praise for quality and regular promos
If you're looking for a sunglasses shop that has top-notch feedback, Frames Direct is the place to check. It currently holds an "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau and a 4.6-star average rating out of 5 on Trustpilot. There are over 30,000 individual reviews from verified buyers, and Frames Direct responds to most complaints within 48 hours. Recent reviews praise the wide selection of frames, the high quality of both prescription and non-prescription selections, and the regular sales and promotions that make even popular brands like Oakley much more affordable.
Great inventory and reliable sales
Frames Direct is a sunglasses store that hits all of the most important marks. You can get quality frames from name-brand distributors and know they are 100% official. The site also offers regular sales and techie features that help you try on your glasses before you buy them. While we would love to see a return policy that doesn't include a fee if you return the item for a bad fit, the high ratings and "A+" from the BBB make Frames Direct a highly competitive option. With its promising inventory, Frames Direct stands out in our review with an excellent rating.
39 Dollar Glasses is a store that was created by eye doctors to offer inexpensive alternatives for prescription and non-prescription eyewear. All of the glasses are made in the US and use the same high-quality materials as you'll find in local glasses stores. Since 39 Dollar Glasses is online only, it doesn't have any overhead costs, which turns into savings for you. 39 Dollar Glasses stands out as a one-stop shop for eyewear including prescription glasses, sunglasses, and contacts, and with over 25 years under its belt, 39 Dollar Glasses is a reliable resource for UV-protective and fashion sunglasses.
302 sunglasses but no brand names
The selection at 39 Dollar Glasses is a little limited compared to other sites, but that's because it doesn't offer brand-name frames. At the time of our review, there were 302 different styles of sunglasses including 241 for women and 185 for men (there are some styles that overlap as they are unisex). There are 12 different frame colors, including black, tortoiseshell, and fun colors like pink, purple, or green. You can also find 9 different lens tint colors including standard gray, brown, and more exciting options like blue, purple, or rose. The highest number of frames offered by 39 Dollar Glasses is the rectangle shape with 102 options to choose from.
Price from $49 to $79 for frames
To do our price comparison of sunglasses retailers, we looked at 6 different price ranges at most places. However, 39 Dollar Glasses' lack of brand-name glasses styles meant that we wouldn't be able to find the price ranges for Prada or Oakley sunglasses as we did with other sites. Instead, we focused on the total price range of all sunglasses, the prices for Rx add-ons, and the prices for wire frames (like aviators). Usually, we also looked at micro frames, but those also weren't available at 39 Dollar Glasses. Here's what we found:
Re-lens your frames for the base price
Now, you may have noted that 39 Dollar Glasses' sunglasses aren't $39. However, they are priced more competitively than most, and you can cut costs in other ways too. If you just want to get your current frames with new lenses put in, you can get better deals since you don't need to pay for frames. You'll just get the base price fee ($49) for your re-lensing. However, in terms of sales, there weren't any promotions offered at the time we completed our research.
Free returns in 30 days
39 Dollar Glasses offers a 30-day full refund guarantee and a 90-day full exchange guarantee for when you buy glasses. This is considered their 100% worry-free guarantee. You can return your sunglasses to 39 Dollar Glasses for any reason, and the return shipping is free. This applies to all sunglasses ordered through the site.
Popular site with return customers
39 Dollar Glasses has a standout reputation with the Better Business Bureau: a perfect "A+" rating and accreditation. On top of that, 39 Dollar Glasses has a competitive reputation with reviewers on Trustpilot where it holds a 4.4-star average out of 5 stars. Recent reviews noted that the process for ordering sunglasses (even custom options) was simple and affordable. Many customers are repeat buyers and have made 39 Dollar Glasses their home base for buying eyewear of all kinds.
A top pick for budget shoppers
If you're looking to save money on some sunglasses (and you're not a fan of brand-name buys), 39 Dollar Glasses is going to be a great place for you to shop. It has a competitive inventory, and its free return and exchange policy offers tons of security for customers who aren't sure about buying glasses without trying them on first. 39 Dollar Glasses has stellar ratings from customers and the BBB, making it a highly recommended choice if you're looking to buy sunglasses (prescription or otherwise) on a budget.
Eye Buy Direct is an online site that promises to "reframe the eyewear game." Because there are no "middlemen" or overhead costs, Eye Buy Direct promises better savings on your eyewear and both prescription and non-prescription sunglasses. The site was founded in 2005 and has its headquarters in Austin, TX, and it currently has open branches in LA and Shanghai as well.
775 pairs of sunglasses to browse
Eye Buy Direct has a decent inventory, including 775 different sunglasses styles in stock. 570 of these styles are for men and 648 are for women, taking into account the fact that many of the styles are unisex and apply to any gender. There are tons of brand names, including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Armani Exchange, Ralph Lauren, Coach, and Eye Buy Direct's original brand. There are 22 different color options, including popular ones like gold, silver, black, and tortoiseshell, along with other more exciting colors like stripes, floral patterns, rainbow, orange, and pink. The frame shape with the most options is the rectangle, with 107 different sunglasses available in that style.
Prices from $190 to $281 for frames
When we compared prices across different sunglasses stores, we checked six different pricing categories to get a full picture. But with Eye Buy Direct, it was a little different since they don't carry Prada. So we looked at the pricing for the other five categories (pricing for all frames, pricing for Rx add-ons, pricing for Oakley sunglasses, and pricing for two popular styles of sunglasses frames: wire frame (like aviators) and micro or slim cat-eye frame). Here's what we found:
Up to 50% off plus promos
There were tons of savings to find on Eye Buy Direct. Our research showed both regular discounts (up to 50% off brands like Oakley) and limited-time promotions on sunglasses. At the time of our review, the site was running a promo for 40% off orders $60+ which was usable with a coupon code. However, unlike some other sites that allow you to re-lens your existing frames for a lower cost, Eye Buy Direct doesn't offer this option. But as a bonus, 2-day shipping is free through Eye Buy Direct, which can help keep costs down.
14-day returns and one free replacement
Eye Buy Direct's return policy for sunglasses is a little shorter than some sites in our review: a 14-day window to make your return and request a full refund. However, the Eye Buy Direct glasses are protected by a 365-day guarantee, which promises that if you need to replace your glasses due to defects, you can do so within 12 months, and this service is free.
Easy to shop for low-cost sunglasses
According to our research, Eye Buy Direct holds an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau. On third-party review sites like Trustpilot, it remains highly competitive with a 4.5-star average rating out of 5 (with over 27,000 individual customer reviews to back up the rating). Recent reviews show that customers find the sunglasses shopping experience smooth and say that the site is easy to use. Customers praise the unique styles and customization options too. While some buyers had trouble with sudden price increases (perhaps a sale ending overnight), the overall consensus is that Eye Buy Direct is a great place to find glasses for reasonable costs.
Great for savings on name brands
Eye Buy Direct is a standout for pricing. With sunglasses frames under $20, it's a competitive option for eyewear that won't break the bank. With a competitive inventory that includes name-brands and some luxury sunglasses, you can count on this one-stop shop to have many of the heavy-hitters for sunglasses styles. However, it is missing some luxury brands, so it might not hit the mark for everyone. On the other hand, if you're looking for a great sale on brands like Oakley, you'll want to jump on over to Eye Buy Direct right away.
Sunglass Hut is a well-known sunglasses retailer that got its start in 1971. Unlike many of the online-only sunglasses stores in our review, Sunglass Hut offers in-person retail locations as well. With over 3,000 stores around the world to try on sunglasses, you can choose what kind of experience fits you best. Sunglass Hut offers a range of fashion and sports brands to make sure to cover all possible needs, from completing your summer outfit to protecting your eyes during outdoor activities.
4,000+ sunglasses in stock
Sunglass Hut focuses entirely on sunglasses, offering 4,116 different styles of sunglasses. 2,189 of the options are women's sunnies, and 1,927 of them are designed for men. You'll find an impressive number of brands, including popular choices like Ray-Ban, Oakley, Versace, Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Diesel, Moncler, Ralph Lauren, and Swarovski among others. You can find customizable sunglasses, those that allow for Rx lenses, those with engraving options, and limited edition styles that you can't find anywhere else.
Prices from $35 to $15,168 for frames
When we check out sunglasses prices across different sites, we normally cover six main price categories so you can easily see how one store stacks up against another. For Sunglass Hut, we researched the full price range of all the sunglasses it sells, how much it adds if you need prescription lenses, and how their prices compare when it comes to popular brands like Prada and Oakley. We also made sure to look at the cost of classic wire-frame styles, such as aviators, along with the super popular micro cat-eye designs that are making the rounds with your favorite fashion gurus. Here's how that compared at Sunglass Hut:
Free shipping and up to 60% off
There are tons of sales and discounts at Sunglass Hut. First, there is an entire clearance section where sunglasses are between 20-60% off across the board. Many popular brands like Ray-Ban and Polo Ralph Lauren are even included in the 50% off sales. At the time of our review, Sunglass Hut also offered a "Spend & Save" option where luxury brands were offered at a $60 discount. And, if you buy more than one pair of sunglasses, you can get 50% off your second pick. The best deal? Shipping is free on all orders from Sunglass Hut, so you won't pay any extra if you choose to browse online vs. in-store.
30-day free returns
Sunglass Hut offers free shipping as part of its return and refund policy. You have 30 days to return any sunglasses that don't work for you at zero cost. If you don't receive a shipment for some reason, but Sunglass Hut shows it was delivered, you have 15 days to request a refund for items that you didn't get. All refunds will be issued in the same way that you paid (Paypal or through your credit card).
Some concerns about slow shipping
Regrettably, Sunglass Hut has a "D-" rating from the BBB due to 42 complaints filed in recent years that were not resolved by the company. However, on third-party review sites like Trustpilot, Sunglass Hut's reputation is a little better. It currently holds a 3.9-star average out of 5. Recent reviews are mostly 1-star, though, which may indicate a decline in the company's popularity. Concerns mainly center around delivery issues. There are a range of complaints about sunglasses not arriving on time (or at all) even when expedited shipping is paid for. On the other hand, customers who wanted to make returns praised the company's helpfulness. One individual found that his sunglasses caused a headache when wearing them. He noted Sunglass Hut's representatives took the issue seriously and offered a full refund with no questions asked.
A great choice if you want luxury sunglasses
There are a lot of high points for giving Sunglass Hut a browse, even with some mixed reviews. The inventory is large and offers a range of affordable styles, sporty favorites, and luxury sunnies. Plus, the return and refund policies are extremely customer-friendly and have proven to be trustworthy according to verified third-party reviews. If it had better reviews from the BBB and Trustpilot overall, it would easily rate higher, but if you're looking for high-end sunglasses you can't find elsewhere, you want to check out Sunglass Hut.
Eyeglasses is an online retailer that offers impressive amounts of detail on its site for every aspect of the process of making glasses. However, while the level of detail offers tons of helpful knowledge to those new to buying glasses, the long scroll through the ins and outs of eyewear can be tedious for those who are just trying to find a quick link or two. But, with Eyeglasses' competitive sale prices and a large selection of sunglasses to look through, you might not mind the long scrolling on main pages once you see the options for sunnies.
4,402 styles of sunglasses in stock
There are tons of sunglasses to browse on Eyeglasses with 4,402 unique styles. 3,035 of these sunglasses are for women and 2,248 are for men with around 800 styles that overlap between the two that are unisex. You'll find tons of top brand-name sunglasses like Prada, Oakley, Gucci, Ray-Ban, Tom Ford, Persol, Tiffany, and Kate Spade. There are 19 different colors to choose from including gold, green, black, crystal, gunmetal, tortoise, and more. The frame shape with the most options at Eyeglasses is the rectangle with 1,036 options, followed by the square with 868 options.
Prices from $38 to $1,828
When we did our side-by-side price check across sunglasses shops, we usually looked at six different price categories. However, this retailer didn't have the popular mini or thin cat-eye sunglasses. At Eyeglasses, we focused on how much their sunglasses cost overall, what you'll pay if you need prescription lenses added on, how their Oakley prices compare, how their Prada prices compare, and what you can expect to spend on one popular frame type: wire-framed designs like aviators. Here's what you can expect for sunglasses from Eyeglasses:
Discounts included, but still costly
Almost all of the sunglasses included in our research were discounted in some way. Some were up to 50% off. However, these prices still were higher than some competitors who offered the same styles or brands (like Oakley). There weren't any additional promotions or coupon codes at the time of our review, outside of the standard discounts at Eyeglasses.
30-day returns
Eyeglasses' return policy is standard, offering 30 days for you to return your sunglasses for a full refund. If you'd like to make an exchange, though, there's a processing fee of $15. There are no restocking fees for making a return unless you try to return 4 or more items at once. Then, there is a 20% restocking fee that begins on the fourth item.
Concerning lack of customer service
Eyeglasses currently holds an "A+" rating from the BBB; however, that's where the good news stops. Regrettably, Eyeglasses holds a poor 2.5-star average rating out of 5 on Trustpilot. Customers in recent reviews complained that their orders and prescriptions were completely wrong (for sunglasses and regular eyeglasses). Plus, there are issues with some customers getting refunds, and others noted that their order was canceled with no communication from Eyeglasses. Some buyers who had questions were never able to get ahold of a customer service rep and only dealt with bots which made it harder to resolve their problems.
Could use an upgrade on customer service
While this could be a fun place to browse sales on major brand names like Prada or Tiffany, Eyeglasses isn't the best spot if you want top-notch customer service along with new sunglasses. You can find some decent deals here, but many of the "discounted" prices are higher than we've seen at other retailers. Although the large inventory might be fun to browse, and there are a decent number of luxury brands, you might generally find better service elsewhere. Due to the balance of pros and cons, Eyeglasses earns a "just average" rating in our review.
Glasses is an online store that offers all kinds of eyewear, from brand-name favorites to universal fit styles or high prescription styles. You can find a wide range of sunglasses, and if you need them with your prescription, Glasses offers online insurance verification, so you can use your vision insurance when you shop. The company is owned by Luxottica Group (which also owns major trusted eyewear retailers like LensCrafters and Target Optical), and the official Glasses website was founded in 2011 in Salt Lake City.
Luxury brands galore
With hundreds of sunglasses to choose from, you'll find plenty of recognizable brands at Glasses; however, the full number of sunglasses sold on Glasses is a little lower than some competitors with 1,007 total. From Vogue Eyewear to more prominent selections like Oakley, there's a seemingly endless scrolling page of sunglasses to look through. You can find men's, women's, and children's sunglasses. Some of the other listed brands include Armani Exchange, Arnette, Burberry, Coach, Costa, Diesel, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Ralph Lauren, Ray-Ban, Swarovski, and more. Glasses offers 20 different colors for frames, including traditional black, tortoiseshell, grey, and brown, along with more exciting options like transparent frames, rose gold, violet, and multicolor.
Prices from $49 to $625 for frames
Usually, we break our price comparisons into six categories when reviewing places that sell sunglasses, but Glasses didn't carry the slim/mini cat eye fashion sunglasses that are popular right now. So, instead, we focused on five main areas to give you a clear idea of what shopping at Glasses might cost. We looked at how much the sunglasses cost overall, what you can expect to spend if you go for Oakley frames, how much it adds if you need prescription lenses, and how their wire frame styles (like timeless aviators) compare in price. Here's what we found:
Regular promos and free shipping
There are a couple of ways to save at Glasses, starting with the promos that run from time to time. For example, during our research, Glasses offered a promo for 30% off frames and up to 50% off lenses if we signed up with an account or logged in to an existing account while shopping. There is also a dedicated "clearance" section of the site where you can find sunglasses already on discount. Plus, with free shipping on most purchases, there are lots of ways to keep costs low even if you're looking at those luxury brands.
60-day returns and discounts for replacements
Glasses offers a competitive 60-day return policy for sunglasses purchased through its online store. If you use insurance to buy Rx sunglasses, a request will be sent to your insurance company from Glasses, so you don't have to worry about resolving anything there. Glasses promises it will pay for the postage in the case of a return. If your sunglasses are damaged in the first year, Glasses offers a 50% discount on the same frames if you need to replace them. If the same frames are not available, you'll get a credit for 50% of the value of your original frames that you can apply toward your new ones.
Late deliveries and poor customer service
Notably, Glasses has raised its ratings in recent years. It currently holds a "D-" rating on the Better Business Bureau (which isn't great, still... ), which is higher than its previous "F" rating. This is mostly due to 42 complaints filed against Glasses in the past few years that were not resolved by the company. From third-party review sites, Glasses' ratings are a little more balanced. It currently holds a 3.6-star rating out of 5 on Trustpilot. Recent reviews include a lot of 1-star ratings that suggest customers are having trouble with shipping. There are several complaints about paying for sunglasses that never arrived or were delivered much later than promised. There are also a range of recent complaints about the customer service reps being unhelpful.
Worth a look if you want to use insurance
There are some high points for shopping at Glasses, like its 60-day refund policy and the competitive prices for luxury brands, but with the low "D-" rating and regular 1-star ratings from customers who have shopped at Glasses, you may be able to find a better sunglasses shopping experience elsewhere. You deserve to shop for sunnies at a place that will make you feel like the customer service team is on top of things. On the other hand, if you're interested in a place that has vision insurance integrated into the process, you might still want to give Glasses a look.
Zappos is an all-around fashion site that is an accessory one-stop shop. Aside from sunglasses, you can also get shoes, clothing items, bags, and more. The company started over 20 years ago, and originally only sold shoes. Now, Zappos offers all sorts of fashionable finds. In 2009 Zappos partnered with Amazon to help get you even better deals and more inventory to make shopping a breeze.
Pick from 226 sunglasses styles
Since Zappos is a site for all accessories and not just sunglasses, its inventory of sunnies is a little limited: 204 are men's styles, and 124 are styles for women. This includes some overlap of around 102 styles that are unisex. There are 21 colors to choose from on Zappos, including standard colors like black, brown, olive, and gray, as well as some unique options like khaki, bronze, and multicolored. There are plenty of name-brands to choose from too like Adidas, Columbia, Gucci, L.L. Bean, Oakley, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Ray-Ban to name a few.
Prices from $84 to $550
To do our price comparison at each sunglasses store, we usually checked out 6 different price ranges. However, at Zappos, we couldn't price out Prada sunglasses or Rx sunglasses since those options weren't offered at the time of our review. However, we were able to research the cost for all sunglasses, Oakley brand sunglasses, wire frame sunglasses (like aviators), and trending micro-frames. Here's what we found:
Some seasonal promos and free shipping
There weren't as many sales at Zappos as seen at some other retailers. At the time of our review, there was a seasonal promotion of 30% off that applied to sunglasses, so make sure you check in from time to time to see what new sales come around. On the bright side, Zappos does offer free shipping on all orders. There are no minimums or product requirements to qualify.
Returns within 365 days
Zappos has one of the longest return policies in our review. You can return items for free within 365 days of the day you purchase the item. Keep in mind this doesn't include anything marked "final sale," but otherwise, all sunglasses qualify for this policy. Notably, the return policy does state that it could take up to 30 days to process your return, so don't worry if you don't see your refund right away.
Poor reputation for accurate orders or on-time shipping
The feedback for Zappos is fairly mixed. Let's start with the good news first. According to the Better Business Bureau, Zappos holds an "A+" rating and accreditation. However, according to third-party review sites like Trustpilot, Zappos is rated just 1.5 stars out of 5. Regrettably, many of the recent reviews talk about "terrible" experiences at Zappos with making purchases. One customer had her order cancelled and her account was frozen without warning. Among other issues mentioned in reviews, Zappos has extremely long periods for shipping, and several customers received the wrong items when their shipments finally arrived.
Fun for browsing accessories
While Zappos is a fun store to browse if you want to check out a one-stop shop for accessories, as a sunglasses store it falls short. There isn't a large inventory to browse through, and with complaints about shipping delays and the wrong items being sent to customers, Zappos isn't as reliable as other sunglasses stores in our review. Further, it has higher prices than many competitors. While it remains a fun option for accessories, Zappos earns a below average rating in our review as a sunglasses retailer.
Solstice Sunglasses is an online and in-person sunglasses store that focuses on luxury, designer, and sporty sunglasses. All of the sunglasses offered on Solstice Sunglasses are hand-picked by staff specialists to keep the collection of luxury frames "contemporary" or "in" with the newest fashion trends.
805 sunglasses styles in total
As a site that specializes in sunglasses, we did expect a larger inventory from Solstice Sunglasses, but the options are still quite competitive. There are 805 different frames and styles in stock. For women's styles, we found 428 different options, and 465 for men's. This includes some overlap styles that are unisex. There are 30 frame colors to choose from, and the most popular frame shape was the aviator with 86 styles in stock. If you're looking for name-brand sunglasses, you're in luck: Solstice Sunglasses offers tons of luxury brands like Balenciaga, Boss, Bvlgari, Cartier, DIOR, Kate Spade, Maui Jim, Tom Ford, and more.
Prices from $156 to $3,345 for frames
While at most sunglasses retailers, we checked 6 different price comparisons, the limited inventory at Solstice Sunglasses meant we could only find price ranges for three of our usual categories. Solstice Sunglasses didn't have any Prada (kind of surprising given the focus on luxury sunglasses) or Oakley, and there weren't any trendy micro sunglasses either. So, we only looked at the prices for all sunglasses across the inventory, the cost to add a prescription to sunglasses, and the price range for all wire frame styles (like aviators). Here's what we found:
Free shipping on all orders
To keep costs down, Solstice Sunglasses offers free shipping on all orders. There are also limited-time promotions that change throughout the year. At the time of our review, there was a $44.50 deal on sunglasses from specific brands, and a DIFF Eyewear deal for $39.99. These may be different from time to time, depending on when you browse.
30-day refund policy
Solstice Sunglasses offers a 30-day return policy, but all items need to be unworn and in their original packaging to qualify. There is no mention of fees for making a return in the refund policy itself. So, we reached out to Solstice Sunglasses' customer service through the online chat portal and were asked to wait for an email back. We never received an email in reply.
Problems with shipping and fakes
According to our research, Solstice Sunglasses holds an "A+" rating from the BBB. However, the company's rating is not as good on other third-party review sites. For example, Solstice Sunglasses has 2.6 stars out of 5 on Trustpilot. Recent reviews aren't any newer than 2024, suggesting there may not be a lot of buyers at this site. All of the "recent" reviews are 1 star as well. Customers complained that some of the items sold were "counterfeit", and other buyers never received items and were not able to secure a refund for them.
Don't play spot the fake
Considering the low inventory for a site that specializes in sunglasses, Solstice Sunglasses may not be an ideal place for your next purchase. Adding to the low inventory and the concerns about fake luxury items and shipments that were never received, there is a general lack of trust for Solstice Sunglasses from the few who have bought from this retailer in the last few years. With limited details on the refund policy as well, it seems safer to choose one of our higher-rated sunglasses stores instead.
Glasses Shop is a sunglasses shop that offers eyewear and frames that are meant to highlight your fashion and style. The goal at Glasses Shop is to offer sunglasses frames that are more than just corrective (if you need a prescription): they give you that special confidence of wearing a piece that makes you feel like yourself. The company was founded in Michigan in 2004, and to make sure you get the right fit, Glasses Shop offers a virtual try-on that uses your webcam to put glasses from the site right on your face.
Only 175 sunglasses to browse
The main downside to shopping for sunglasses on Glasses Shop is the lower-than-average inventory. There are only 175 pairs of sunglasses to choose from, making this a pretty limited supply. 150 of the styles are women's and 110 of them are for men, with 85 pairs that overlap as unisex styles. There are 20 color options to choose from including multicolor, ombre, gold, silver, and traditional colors like black or tortoiseshell. The frame shape with the most options is the rectangle style with 36 different pairs to choose from. However, if you're looking for brand-name sunglasses, you won't find any here. There are a lot of styles that look like dupes for Ray-Bans or Coach, but all of the sunglasses at Glasses Shop are off-brand or in-house brand.
Prices from $5.95 to $55.96
On the bright side, the lack of brand names makes Glasses Shop extremely affordable. When we compare sunglasses prices across different stores, we normally check out six separate categories to keep things fair. But with no brand name sunglasses, we did our price comparison on four main things to help you get a better idea of how much you might spend here. We checked the average cost for all sunglasses on the site, the extra charge for prescription lenses, and how much you'll pay for classic wire styles like aviators and popular styles like micro frame cat eye sunglasses that are trending all over. Here's what we found:
Free shipping on $69+
There are plenty of ways to save at Glasses Shop. First, you can access one of the store's many seasonal promotions. At the time of our review, Glasses Shop offered a buy-one-get-one-free promotion for all of its frames. You can also earn free shipping on any order over $69. Most sunglasses that include prescriptions will hit this benchmark, making many of the sunglasses on Glasses Shop qualify for free shipping.
No full refunds offered
Glasses Shop has a 30-day exchange and returns policy. You can contact the customer service team there at any time within 30 days of receiving your sunglasses order. Glasses Shop offers exchanges, but there will be shipping fees for return and reship. If you decide to ask for a refund, you only get 50% of your full payment back (yikes!). This is one of the least customer-friendly refund policies we've seen at different sunglasses stores in our review.
Site has alerts from Trustpilot
The ratings for Glasses Shop are highly concerning. First, the company holds a dismal "D-" rating from the Better Business Bureau. On Trustpilot, Glasses Shop currently is showing a "breach of guidelines" notice. This means this sunglasses retailer is displaying Trustpilot content in a way that's intentionally misleading customers. While Trustpilot doesn't list the exact breach of conduct, it could include things like pressuring users to change or update reviews, faking reviews, or posting personal information for customers involved in reviews. There is a second notice on Trustpilot stating that Trustpilot has "detected that this company may be asking for reviews" in a way that may "compromise the reliability of the reviews," which may be related to the breach of conduct.
Not worth the quality concerns
While Glasses Shop's low-cost sunglasses might be a huge draw, you may want to look for discounts elsewhere. Current alerts on Trustpilot and low scores from the BBB suggest that Glasses Shop may not be trustworthy. With a lackluster refund policy and a minimal inventory of styles, there isn't much to recommend this retailer over other highly-rated and reliable options in our review.
