The Best Swimsuit Stores

Where Can You Find the Best Selection of Swimsuits?

Let's face it: most of us really don't like shopping for swimwear, even when we have hundreds of options right at our fingertips. Standing in front of a changing room mirror, under harsh lighting and with barely enough room to turn around, is not exactly a recipe for a mood-boosting retail experience. What if it didn't have to be that way?

Good news: it doesn't! You can buy your next swimsuit online and try it on in the privacy of your own home, no fluorescent lights required. Snap a photo and text your friends to see if they like it, use a filter to see how you'd look wearing it at the beach - it's really that easy.

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

No matter what kind of swimwear you need, there's no better place to shop than SwimOutlet. Planning a once-in-a-lifetime snorkeling trip to Cancun? They've got cute bikinis for the beach and rashguards to keep you safe from the sun - even wetsuits if you want one! From kids on the swim team to guys looking for new board shorts and every other imaginable swimsuit need, this is your one-stop shop.

Use filters to your advantage

You're not going to want to spend time sifting through the nearly 10,000 products in the Swimsuits category at SwimOutlet, so use the filters to your advantage! You probably have a general idea of what you need, whether that's a TYR team suit for your child or a hybrid board short for easy wearing on vacation. You can really drill down to a well-curated list of swimwear that's a good match, with filters ranging from Activity to Back Style or even just shopping by Top Style or Trend. Keep in mind that sizing is different for competition/team suits than in fashion/recreational swimwear: a size 20 in a racing suit is very different from a size 20 in traditional sizing!

Swimwear for athletics and recreation

And, don't think that this is only for people shopping for competitive swimsuits. Their Fashion & Active section has tons of bikinis, tankinis and one-piece styles that are definitely more suited to an Instagram style influencer than someone aspiring to swim like Katie Ledecky or Michael Phelps! SwimOutlet is also one of the only stores we reviewed that has a lot of specialty swimwear. This includes options for long torso sizing, maternity wear, modest coverage, and styles for mastectomy patients.

Plenty of customer reviews

You'll get a feel for just how popular this store is when you see how many customer reviews are on most of the swimsuits they sell. For example, the budget-friendly brand Sporti has a lot of one-piece swimsuits for girls/women and racing jammers for boys/men: the $24.99 Solid Wide Strap One-Piece had nearly 1000 ratings during our most recent shopping trip to SwimOutlet! Those reviews are a wealth of information too: search them for keywords you need or sort them by body type, use frequency or fit sizing to see what customers similar to your profile report about how the swimwear does under normal use.

Prices across the spectrum

You're going to find really affordable swimsuits here - and really expensive ones too. That's because SwimOutlet carries the swimwear used by everyone, from little kids taking summer swim lessons to Olympic-caliber athletes who need the most advanced tech suits to take a few hundredths off their time to qualify for a race. (Not sure what we mean? Search for "Arena Powerskin" or "Speedo Fastskin" , especially in the women's department!)

Best Swimsuit Stores

Get your accessories here too

Adding to the all-inclusive shopping possibilities, SwimOutlet has lots of the "extras" you might need. From goggles to towels, aquatic fitness gear to chlorine-neutralizing shampoo and conditioner, you won't need to shop anywhere else! (If you've got kids that swim with a cap, check out the cute options shaped like a shark fin!)

Lots of ways to save

If you haven't already signed up for SwimOutlet's mailing list, you can get a 10% discount by doing so. We got the offer as a pop-up - you might also get it as you shop the site, or look for a link at the bottom of the page. Shipping is free in the continental US when your order is over $49, and if you pay $4.99 for a one-year SwimOutlet+ membership you'll get free 2-day shipping on orders of $99+ (as well as lower prices on all merchandise, 5% in rewards credit, and early access to new items and sales).

30-day return policy

What about returns? SwimOutlet's policy is industry-standard at 30 days for any unworn, unused items that still have their tags attached and the hygienic liner in place.

Excellent reputation, many loyal customers

SwimOutlet's reputation is terrific. The Better Business Bureau gives the company their highest rating and accreditation, and over 3500 swim teams use this store for their athletes. We're happy to see glowing reviews from everyday shoppers too, some who have used SwimOutlet for over 20 years! Customer service gets praise for dealing with problems quickly and effectively, deliveries tend to arrive quickly, and you get year-round access to every imaginable type of swimwear. What more could you ask?

Best overall store for swimsuits

With so many swimsuits to choose from and all of the accessories to match, hassle-free returns and solid reputation for customer service, it's easy to see why this store is the go-to place for thousands of shoppers. For all of these reasons, SwimOutlet maintains its first-place finish among swimwear retailers.

Boohoo Review 4.5 Star Rating

Boohoo

4.5 Star Rating
  • On-trend swimwear for men and women
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XS-XXL
  • Men's fashion swim shorts, sizes XS-5XL
  • 28-day return policy, tags and hygiene liner must still be in place
  • Very low prices
  • $9.99 shipping, half-price on orders over $50 with promo
  • Great reputation

Do you need a "fashion bestie" to help you find the swimsuits that will show off your style and get you the latest looks for less? Since 2006, Boohoo has been providing 24/7 accessibility to all of the newest items, with more than 500 new products added to their store every week! With origins in the UK and offices in the US, Australia, and France, this social media-savvy retailer captures shoppers' attention like no other.

Swimwear for men and women

Boohoo offers swimwear for both men and women, though the inventory is definitely slanted towards the ladies: there are about 250+ swim trunks and board shorts to choose from, and over 2500 bikinis, one-pieces and swim cover-ups. You'll find an incredible array of sizing options too - and we really loved the fact that plus sizes were not just included but featured on the main women's swimwear page. You know, as if women are valid and beautiful in every size. Who knew!

Needs customer reviews on each swimsuit

You're going to want to use the filters to help you find some swimwear you like. Try using the ones for size, style fit, color or price instead of brands: most of the labels here aren't going to be ones you're super-familiar with. Then, click where it says "We Recommend" to sort your results by popularity, price, or newest arrivals. It's easy to see available colors and sizes, but the one part Boohoo doesn't quite do as well as their rivals yet is providing shopper ratings. We'd love to see reviews on each swimsuit showing how popular it is, how it holds up after being worn a few times, and if the fit is true to size.

Low-price swimsuits, but no free shipping

Want to save a bit of money? Go to the bottom of the site where it says "EXTRA 10% OFF EVERYTHING!" Enter your email there to subscribe to exclusive offers and "the inside info" , and you should get a promo code in your inbox right away. However, Boohoo is one of the only swimwear stores we found that doesn't give you free shipping...ever. You'll pay $9.99 on most orders, but there was a promo offering half-off with a coupon code and with a minimum spend of $50. That comes across a little cheap, in our opinion, but it's not a big deal either: not when you're only spending $9 on a basic Racer Front Swimsuit or $11 on a Bandana Print Swim Short.

Best Swimsuit Stores

Easy returns within 28 days

Boohoo gives you a reasonable amount of time to return your swimwear: 28 days. It has to be unworn, unwashed, and with both the tags and the hygiene liner still intact. The nice part is that you can print the return label right from the Boohoo site and it'll be tracked by them all the way to their warehouse. (But you'll have the shipping fees deducted from your return, sorry.)

Surprisingly amazing reputation

We were really skeptical about how this company would hold up reputation-wise, so it was a pleasant surprise to find nearly 200,000 independently-verified reviews - with an average of 4.2 out of 5 stars. If you do the math (or if you cheat and look at the totals), that's nearly 110,000 people who gave Boohoo a perfect 5-out-of-5 score. And that's not only in the US: the company sells a lot of swimwear in Great Britain, Australia, and plenty of other places too. There's tons of compliments for Boohoo customer service reps who save the day by responding to questions and concerns on social media channels, via WhatsApp, or over email. Well done!

Top styles at enticing prices

Because there's no way to see shopper comments on specific swimwear, we're still a little hesitant to give Boohoo our absolute highest recommendation. But, their reputation overall is pretty incredible, and if you're only spending $20 or less for a swimsuit plus shipping, it's a pretty inexpensive chance to take. This is an amazing place to get the hottest swimwear styles without burning a hole in your budget.

Nordstrom Review 4.5 Star Rating

Nordstrom

4.5 Star Rating
  • High-end designer brands available
  • Excellent swimwear selection for men, women, and children
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XXS-4X+ or 00-24W+, plus maternity sizes/styles
  • Men's swim trunks and board shorts, sizes XS-6XL
  • Girls' 1- and 2-piece swimsuits, sizes 2T-16+
  • Boys' swim trunks and board shorts, sizes 2T-20
  • Free shipping
  • Extremely generous return policy
  • "A+" rated by the BBB

Buy a swimsuit from a big-name department store? Absolutely, if it's Nordstrom! Read on to find out why it might be the first place you click to buy swimsuits online.

Spend $15 or $1000 - with many options in between

You'll find a broad spectrum of brands at Nordstrom - with corresponding pricing. Just for fun, we looked for the most expensive swimwear sold here, and we weren't disappointed. Nordstrom was offering a Missoni Zigzag Cover-Up Tunic dress for $1085 and a Balmain Denim Print Two-Piece Swimsuit for $945. (All with free delivery or in-store pickup if available near you!) On the opposite side, there were lots of bikini bottoms for under $15 (also with free delivery!).

Swimsuits sized for every body

Nordstrom has some of the best sizing options for the whole family. If you've got a lake trip coming up and your people need smaller or bigger sizes than average, this retailer's got you covered (literally). These aren't a bunch of swimsuits from obscure brands that might not fit properly, either: how about Vineyard Vines, Nike or Under Armour, among many more? There were more than 300 trunks/shorts and rashguard options for boys, about the same amount of one- and two-piece swimsuits and cover-ups for girls, 700+ styles for guys, and an astounding 2600+ choices of swimwear for the ladies.

Use the filters to save time

Because there are so many to choose from, we recommend using the filters on the side of the page. This lets you easily shop by brand, color, material, size, price or style. Your list of matching swimsuits can then be sorted by price, popularity, featured or new arrivals, but the thumbnails give you a good idea of each item's price, color options and overall customer ratings.

Best Swimsuit Stores

Reviews helpful but slightly limited

The Nordstrom swimsuit with the highest number of shopper reviews was the women's La Blanca Island Goddess One-Piece, priced at $79. It comes in six colors and sizes from 2-16. More than 400 customers left their opinions on this swimwear, with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Compared with other stores, Nordstrom's reviews aren't quite as helpful: you can't sort them by the height and weight of the commenter (to find the ones that are a close match to you) and there weren't any shopper-posted photos.

Best return policy around

Nordstrom is very generous when it comes to returns. They place no time limit on sending a swimsuit back for a refund or exchange. They're a little vague about their other requirements: in the FAQ where it asks if worn items can be returned, it just says "We will do our best to take care of customers and deal with them fairly; from time to time we may not accept a return." We imagine that means you might be able to get a refund if you wear your Nordstrom swimsuit once or twice and the fabric stretches out unexpectedly, but probably not if you've used it on three Caribbean vacations and want to send it back years after you bought it. You can return your online purchase to any store near you, or with a no-cost, prepaid shipping label you print at home or at a USPS location when you show your scannable return code. It doesn't get any easier!

Store with a solid reputation

And, there are really no concerns about Nordstrom's reputation either: "A+" rated by the BBB and with the better part of a century in business. Yes, the retailer gets its fair share of customer complaints, but that's to be expected when you have many in-person retail locations and a well-stocked online store.

Swimwear superstar

No matter who on your shopping list needs a new pair of swim trunks or the latest style of bikini, you'll find more than enough options at Nordstrom. The range of brands they carry and their extremely open return policy are just two of the reasons we give this store one of our highest rankings among retailers of swimsuits.

Aerie Review 4 Star Rating

Aerie

4 Star Rating
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XXS to XXL
  • Affordable prices
  • Lots of reviews from women showing how the suits fit in real life
  • Easy-to-shop website
  • Free returns, no time limit

Aerie is a division of American Eagle Outfitters, and they have a surprisingly good selection of just over 300 swimsuits for women.

300 swimsuits under $50

There are two primary swimwear lines at Aerie: regular and Real Good. The latter uses fabrics made with recycled nylon, which has less carbon emissions impact as regular nylon. Altogether you'll find just over 300 swimsuits to choose from, most priced under $50.

Results list gives you a great overview

Aerie doesn't let you browse all of their swimsuits at once. You'll have to start by choosing a style - bikini tops, bikini bottoms, or one-piece - or shop by New Arrivals or the Real Good collection. From there, it's easy to use filters to see options according to fit, size or color, and then sort by price, newest, or styles that are only available online. The results list makes it so easy to see what options you'll get with each swimsuit. Aerie has some fantastic sizing options, such as different lengths for shorter and longer torsos. You can also see at a glance if the swimwear has a "cheeky booty" or "full coverage booty" style. Clicking the little hearts in the upper corner of each thumbnail image will save any swimsuits you like to a favorites list for quick shopping later.

Unlimited return timeframe - at no cost

Aerie's return policy is nothing short of extraordinary. As long as your swimsuit still has the tags and hygienic liner in place, there's no time limit on when you can send it back for a full refund. They'll even cover the cost of return shipping, or you can bring it to an AE location near you.

Best Swimsuit Stores

Lower BBB rating than expected

American Eagle Outfitters has a disappointing "B-" rating from the Better Business Bureau. But, when we scrolled through the customer complaints filed with the BBB, it was obvious that a lot of them were related to specific store locations or to clothing outside of the Aerie line.

Very satisfied swimwear customers

Besides, if you look at most of the reviews on the swimwear Aerie sells, they're really positive on the whole. For example, one of the most popular swimsuits we found was the Wrap One-Piece, available in Olive Fun and True Black in sizes from XXS to XXL and with long torso options. More than 600 women took the time to leave a rating for this swimwear, giving it an average of 4.2 out of 5 stars.

Reviews are your best source of info

Those reviews are a key feature of shopping for swimsuits at Aerie. Want to see how they look on everyday people and not just models? Wondering how people of your height and weight say the suit fits in the size you're considering? Even reviews can be filtered until you get just the ratings from women similar to you.

Great option for women's swimwear

All in all, Aerie gives you a ton of perks if you're shopping for women's swimsuits. Their return policy is unbeatable, the online store is intuitive to navigate, and best of all Aerie's customers are usually very happy with the swimwear once they get it home and wear it at the pool or the beach. Shop Aerie with confidence!

Old Navy Review 3.5 Star Rating

Old Navy

3.5 Star Rating
  • Swimwear under $60 for men, women, and children
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XS-4X
  • Men's swim trunks and board shorts, sizes XS-3XL
  • Girls' 1- and 2-piece swimsuits, sizes XS-XXL
  • Boys' swim trunks and board shorts, sizes S-XXL
  • Free shipping on orders of $50+ for Rewards members only
  • 45-day return/refund policy if tags and hygienic liner are intact

Everyone knows Old Navy. They're a go-to store for most wardrobe staples from jeans to tees and likely have at least one retail location in your area.

Basic selection of swimwear

Swimsuits at Old Navy are relatively basic, and their results lists don't always match up with the product category. For example, under boys' swimwear comes up with 39 corresponding items - but some of those were flip-flops and slides, along with a handful of options for board shorts, swim shorts, and short- and long-sleeve rashguards. The selection for women's swimsuits was much broader, with almost 450 options and most of them swimwear (not shoes or related apparel, though you'll see those too).

Budget-friendly prices

You probably won't find any swimsuits here that are over $60. Old Navy is known for being affordable, and their swimwear won't break anyone's budget. The most expensive designs we spotted were in the Secret Smooth Plus-Size line: regularly priced at $59.99, on sale for $56.97 and with an additional 25% off taken at checkout. (Are we the only ones who get a little irritated when plus sizes come at a higher price than the smaller sizes in the same design?)

Filters can help you find swimwear quickly

If you want to narrow down the possibilities, make use of Old Navy's filters. They vary depending on who you're shopping for (men, children, etc.) but in general you'll get filters for category, size, color and price with a few others thrown in. We wish the thumbnail images gave a bit more information, like available colors or the average customer rating - but you'll have to click on individual items to see those details.

Free size recommendation tool

Old Navy is one of two retailers in our review that uses the True Fit system to help you get a swimsuit that fits well the first time. You create a user profile that can be applied across multiple stores, and you'll get recommendations for sizing and an idea of how any given swimsuit will likely fit.

Best Swimsuit Stores

In-store locations = more options

Because Old Navy has many in-store locations throughout the country, some aspects of shopping are easier here. First, you can order online and pick up in store if the swimwear is in stock near you. That's a good thing, because you will only get free shipping if your order is at least $50 and you're a member of their complimentary Rewards program. Returns can be made by mail or in-store within 45 days of purchase. Just be sure that your swimwear still has the tags attached and the hygienic liner hasn't been removed.

Big retailers get lots of complaints

Shopper impressions of Old Navy (and the swimsuits they sell) aren't 100% positive. The company has a "D-" from the Better Business Bureau, but that extends across the entire brand family that includes Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta too. The BBB said that's because there were 14 complaints that didn't get a corporate response, out of more than 1400 filed there in the three years prior to our review. For such a big company with a significant online and in-person retail presence, that doesn't seem that awful to us.

Swimwear may have quality issues

But, looking through reviews on swimsuits didn't leave us overly impressed. A lot of customers commented about poorly-made apparel: seams coming apart after just a wear or two (or even when still brand-new), shrinkage after one wash, and so on. Don't get us wrong: there are still plenty of swimsuits with lots of positive customer reviews. There just seems to be a higher-than-average amount of swimwear that doesn't hold up after actually being worn for swimming!

Good but not great for swimsuits

That's the main factor in a "just average" rating from us: Old Navy is okay for basic swimsuit options for men, women, and children, but there are retailers bringing in much more positive feedback from shoppers.

J.Crew Review 3.5 Star Rating

J.Crew

3.5 Star Rating
  • Swimwear for the whole family
  • Helpful True Fit tool for getting the right size
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XXS-3X or 0-24
  • Men's trunks and board shorts, sizes XS-XXL or 28-42
  • Girls' tankinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XS-XL or 1-14
  • Boys' trunks and board shorts, sizes S-XL or 1-16
  • 30-day return policy, $7.50 for return shipping if using J.Crew prepaid label
  • $5 standard shipping, free for J.Crew rewards members

J.Crew sells "classics with a twist, and style you can trust" . The company has been around for almost four decades and offers swimwear for men and women, boys and girls, in cute-yet-timeless patterns like gingham and stripes as well as traditional solids and more.

Decent selection and sizes

You won't find thousands of swimwear choices here, but there's a decent amount to choose from - and in a wide range of sizes, too. For example, women's swimsuits go from sizes 0-24 (or XXS to 3X) and you get just under 200 styles to consider. There's lots of ways to sift through them as well: use filters for style, silhouette, pattern, color, price, and so on, and then further sort by price, ratings, or new arrivals if desired.

See shopper reviews for guidance

One of the most reviewed women's swimsuits at J.Crew is the Ruched One-Shoulder One-Piece ($118), available in Safari Green, Seacoast Blue, Navy and Black, in sizes ranging from 0-16. Over more than 30 shopper ratings, this swimwear averaged nearly a perfect five stars. We really like how their reviews display the overall fit (from "runs small" to "runs large" on a sliding scale), the height and body type of the wearer, any comments and then whether or not they ultimately recommend that item.

True Fit tool can help you get it right the first time

J.Crew is one of several retailers that give customers the opportunity to use the True Fit system. When you create a user profile, it gathers information about your height, measurements, and how certain brands fit you, and then those details are applied to give you a recommendation for sizing on items you're considering. If you're tough to fit or you regularly find that you are different sizes in various brands, this can be a great way to make swimsuit-shopping less frustrating.

Best Swimsuit Stores

Standard 30-day return policy

The store's return policy is fairly standard. You'll have 30 days to request a refund on any swimwear that is unworn, unwashed and undamaged; if you use the J.Crew prepaid label, a shipping fee of $7.50 will be deducted from that refund.

Free shipping for rewards members only

With respect to delivery costs, expect a standard shipping charge of $5 no matter how much you order. If you're a member of the J.Crew rewards program, your shipping is always complimentary.

Going out of business in the future?

J.Crew comes in with average ratings in terms of reputation. They've got an "A-" with the Better Business Bureau, but there was an alert there saying that J.Crew filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in May 2020. The company is still in business, but there are no guarantees that they will stay that way.

Worth considering for fans of the classic look

Should you buy your swimwear here? If you see something that appeals to you, there's really no reason not to. Prices are a little higher than some retailers but not outrageously so, and the brand has a long-standing reputation. You're not going to find any styles that are really cutting-edge or, on the other hand, designed for racing or athletics, but if you like the classic look J.Crew can deliver.

Zappos Review 3 Star Rating

Zappos

3 Star Rating
  • Lots of top brands like Volcom and Polo
  • Swimwear for men, women, and children
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimwear, athletic swim/surfwear; sizes vary by brand
  • Men's swim trunks and board shorts, sizes vary by brand
  • Girls' 1- and 2-piece swimsuits, sizes vary by brand
  • Boys' swim trunks and board shorts, sizes vary by brand
  • "A+" rated and accredited by the BBB
  • Free shipping on all orders
  • 1 full year to return any unworn, unused swimwear

Zappos isn't just for shoes. You can find a pretty impressive selection of swimwear for the whole family, including popular brands like Kate Spade, Billabong, Hurley, Nike, Michael Kors and many others.

Lots of choices, but not sortable by size

You'll find hundreds, if not thousands, of swimsuit choices here. Hopefully you have at least a basic idea of what you're looking for: you can use the filters to shop by brand name, swimwear features like SPF protection or drawstring waist, design themes like nautical or stripes, price range, and so forth. The one noticeably missing filter was size! If you have an account with Zappos and save your sizing preferences, it'll give you that as an option - otherwise, you'll have to hope that in the list of results you get by using the other filters, you come across one that you like that also happens to be available in the size you need.

Mostly recreational swimwear here

Most of the swimwear sold by Zappos falls in the fashion category: fun options for poolside or playing by the shore, but not much you'd use to compete in a triathlon or go surfing. There are a few options, though, if you need something for more active use: we found around 50 by Nike and a handful by Speedo that would work.

Free shipping, 365-day return policy

Shipping is always free here. You've also got a full 365 days to return your purchase for a refund - but before you get too excited, remember that all items need to be in unworn, unwashed condition to qualify, including the original tags and any hygienic liners. Still, that's pretty decent if you want to get a swimsuit for a vacation that's a few months away without having to worry that you're out of luck if it doesn't fit by then.

Best Swimsuit Stores

Swimsuits aren't the priority

It's pretty clear that shoes are still Zappos' main focus: despite having nearly 2000 options for women's swimsuits alone, we didn't see a single one that had more than a dozen customer ratings. That makes it hard to see how they do once someone gets it home and tries it on. How's the fit? The material? You'll be taking your best guess here, unless you've already tried it on somewhere else or have a brand that you know is a good match for you.

Customer satisfaction on the decline?

Customer satisfaction with Zappos varies. On the positive side, the BBB gives this retailer its highest recommendation, with an "A+" rating and accreditation. It's easy to find lots of compliments for Zappos from shoppers who have used the store more than once for everything from shoes to purses - and now swimsuits as well. On the other hand, some people are unhappy with Zappo's using Amazon for most of its delivery fulfillment. Others describe receiving merchandise that's obviously been used, or being accused of trying to return items they damaged and then having their account closed. There's not much feedback specifically about swimwear and customer service in either direction.

Nothing to love or hate

Zappos has some things going for it: generous return policy, wide selection of swimwear for just about everybody, and well-known brands that people want. At the same time, they don't seem to have the reputation for fast delivery and no-hassle returns like they used to. It's not a bad place to get a swimsuit, but you might want to try a higher-rated store first.

Bare Necessities Review 3 Star Rating

Bare Necessities

3 Star Rating
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes 4-24W
  • Free shipping on orders of $70+ (or all orders during promo)
  • Fitting experts on hand via toll-free number or online chat
  • 120-day return policy

Bare Necessities is known by more than two million shoppers as being the place to go for a bra that fits. The company translates that know-how into swimsuits, with an expansive inventory that's practically busting at the seams. (Sorry, we couldn't resist.) If you're typically challenged to find swimwear that fits all of your curves (or straight lines!), Bare Necessities is ready to come to the rescue.

Get personalized help finding the right fit

We love that this store offers "Fit Experts" from 8:30a-8:00p Monday through Friday and even on Saturdays from 8:30a-6:00p (all times EST). This is a huge help if you're tough to size accurately, or if you're not a one-size-fits-all kind of gal. Big on top and small on the bottom? Irregularly-shaped? Cup sizes at one extreme or the other? Bare Necessities is the only place we found that not only takes that into account with the swimsuits they sell, but they also save you the guesswork and help you get the right fit the first time.

Online store is easy to shop

But, if you just want to dive in (...we know") and browse for yourself, this is one of the easiest online stores to do it. Use the filter dropdowns to choose the style, size, brand or color you prefer, if any, and then sort your results by Best Sellers, Price, New Arrivals, Brand, or Top Rated. And hey, this store doesn't judge: under style you can even choose "sexy swim" or "modest swim" .

Read customer feedback for swimsuit fit info

Bare Necessities' swimsuits have a decent amount of customer ratings. The one with the most ratings we could find (just over 100) was the Freya Sundance Tankini Top, available in five colors, five band sizes and seven cup sizes starting at D and ending at GG. Plus, important detail: it was a UK-sized swimsuit, and the store recommended looking at the sizing chart to ensure the proper fit. User reviews are also a great way to see how these suits hold up under normal usage: you can see how well people thought it fit, whether they recommend it, their body type and any comments.

No surprises on pricing

Swimwear here isn't the most or the least expensive we found. That Freya tankini top was priced from $41.99 to $84 depending on the color, and the suggested matching bottoms were anywhere from $18.99 to $60.

Savings promotions are out there

But, savings are a possibility. When we first visited Bare Necessities, we got a pop-up offer of 20% off our order (some brands excluded) if we provided our email address. There was also a seasonal promotion in place with savings up to 40% on certain swimwear and free shipping on all orders, not just the regular complimentary delivery on orders of $70 or more.

Returns = refund or store credit

How about returns? The policy here is more generous than most, giving you up to 120 days on any unworn, unwashed merchandise. There's one limitation: in the first 60 days from purchase, you'll get a refund to your credit card, but from days 61-120, you'll get an email voucher to buy something different instead of a refund. You can either pay for the return shipping costs yourself or, for a $5 fee deducted from your refund, you can use Bare Necessities' prepaid label.

Less-than-fair rating from the BBB?

Given how big the Bare Necessities name is and how long the company has been in business, we were stunned to see that they have an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau (under the name of their parent company, BareWeb - be careful if you search for that!). But, the reasons behind that rating were pretty insignificant: two or three unanswered complaints, and an unresolved issue about advertising a certain percentage of savings when only a few items actually qualify. To us, neither of those things seem like a big deal.

Customer service is hard to reach

Then again, almost half of the shopper reviews we found for Bare Necessities were a rock-bottom 1-star rating. Time and time again, customers complain that their calls to the toll-free number for the company just ring and ring (or disconnect without putting them through to a representative) - and that they only seem to get a response if they post a complaint somewhere online. Who wants to jump through those hoops?

Proceed with caution

And yet, we still give Bare Necessities a reasonably good three-star rating. We just can't overlook their Fit Experts feature because - assuming you can get a hold of them - they can make the typically-unpleasant experience of shopping for a well-fitting swimsuit a much more positive one. We recommend that you shop here with guarded optimism because of the problems people have reported regarding customer service.

Cupshe Review 2 Star Rating

Cupshe

2 Star Rating
  • Women's fashion bikinis and one-piece swimsuits, sizes XS-4XL
  • Easy-to-navigate website
  • Free shipping on orders of $49+ to lower 48 United States and Canada
  • Returns accepted within 30 days of delivery on unworn, unwashed items with tags and hygiene liners still attached; customer pays return shipping costs

Cupshe has been selling women's fashion swimsuits since 2015. They aim to empower women of all shapes and sizes to "look and feel their best in quality, stylish and affordable swimwear" .

Trendy, fun swimsuits

You won't have a hard time finding something you love here. Use the navigation links to shop by Bikinis, One Pieces, Plus Sizes or Best Sellers, or jump to the New In page if you're looking for something trendsetting. Whichever category you choose, filters like Price, Seasonal Color, Style and Trend can be used to narrow down the possibilities until you get a results list to browse.

Thousands of customer reviews on items

When you click on a swimsuit that catches your eye, you'll be taken to an extremely informative product page. It tells you the measurements of the model pictured, so you have a more accurate idea of sizing and fit, as well as the fabric details and photos taken from several angles. Their more popular designs have customer reviews you can check out: the one with the highest number of reviews we spotted was the Marsala Twist High Waisted Bikini with over 1000 ratings (for an average of five stars). It was great to be able to sort the reviews by rating, customer age/body type, how the size fit, and even candid images of how the suits look in real life.

Low prices plus extra savings

Almost every swimsuit that Cupshe sells is priced between $24 and $32. All orders of $49 and up ship for free in the continental US. Also, if you join the Cupshe email list, you can save 10% on your first order of $65+. Just look for a pop-up as you browse their online store or for a link at the bottom or on the side of the site.

30-day returns, but you pay for shipping

While Cupshe's 30-day return window is pretty standard for the industry, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you'll have to make sure all tags and hygiene liners are still in place, or no refund for you! You're also in charge of paying all of the return shipping costs - to whatever address they specify when you request the return, not the one on your package. By the way, that could mean you're on the hook for international shipping fees, according to some customers' feedback.

Best Swimsuit Stores

When it's bad, it's really bad...

Cupshe gets one of our lowest rankings among swimsuit retailers. Why? Because you might not ever get what you paid for - or a refund! The BBB gave this company an "F" rating, and during our most recent visit there was an alert saying that multiple customers filed reports describing exactly that. Even the package tracking numbers provided by Cupshe were invalid!

...but when it's good, it's amazing

That's hard to reconcile with the hundreds of thousands of positive reviews featured on the Cupshe site and their highly active social media accounts (we even went in and found some of our own friends who have liked or followed Cupshe's accounts!).

Still not enough to convince us

But, we can't ignore what we see on independent third-party sites like the BBB and other sources of customer feedback besides Cupshe's own site. On one of them, the comments were almost evenly split between 5-star "excellent" ratings and 1-star "bad" ones.

You're taking your chances here

At the end of the day, here's what we think you can expect: if you get your Cupshe swimwear delivered with no problems, you're probably going to get a suit you adore. So many women say that they fit exactly like they show on their models, the fabric is high-quality and long-lasting, and the colors are vivid. On the other hand, there's a very real chance that your order won't ever come, or that if it does and you want to return it, you'll have a really hard time getting a refund. As much as we'd love to get an amazing swimsuit at an even more incredible price, Cupshe doesn't deliver as consistently as we would need to rank them higher among the competition.

Beachsissi Review 1 Star Rating

Beachsissi

1 Star Rating
  • Over 800 choices among swimwear and cover-ups
  • Women's fashion bikini and one-piece swimwear, athletic surfwear; sizes S-2XL
  • Affordable prices
  • 15-day return policy

Beachsissi got started in 2017 and is an online-only retailer of women's beachwear, including swimsuits, cover-ups and casual dresses. The company is headquartered in Hong Kong.

No helpful filter options

This store doesn't offer the smoothest online shopping experience we've ever seen. When you've chosen a swimsuit category you like, there's no convenient way to sort the options, other than by price, bestsellers, date added or alphabetically. You can't shop by color or size, fabric or style, or anything that actually makes sense. So, prepare yourself to spend some time clicking through to see what catches your eye - because there are more than 800 swimsuits and related beachwear sold by Beachsissi!

Not much shopper feedback on swimsuits

Once you find some that you like, it's not hard to see all of the details you'd want about fabric and fit. There's not a ton of customer reviews on the swimwear here: even the first one listed as a bestseller, the Twist Front Drawstring Side High Waisted Bikini set only had 26 shopper ratings (which, suspiciously, all seemed to be five stars).

Pay attention to sizing conventions

We recommend taking a look at the sizing chart on Beachsissi; you'll usually find it on each swimsuit's product page. Some suits only go from sizes S to XL, with no differentiation for bust size. For what it's worth, this store considers a size 16 to be a 2XL. The sizing might also be a little off: the chart says "please allow 0.4" -0.8" differs due to manual measurement" (and that odd grammar was our first indicator that this company isn't based in the US).

Lowest prices around

Prices here are crazy-cheap. You aren't likely to find any swimsuits that are more than $40, and there are plenty that are even under $30. Still, keep an eye out for extra savings on swimwear with Beachsissi. We got a $5 off $59+ offer that popped up if we were willing to give them our email address. There was also a promo featured at the top of the site for Buy 3, Get 1 Free (though we're not sure how many people buy four swimsuits at once!).

Best Swimsuit Stores

Worst rating from the BBB

As much as you might love what you find on the Beachsissi site, we strongly recommend that you get your swimwear somewhere else. Customer experiences with this store are terrible, and that's putting it nicely! Start with the store's Better Business Bureau listing under the name of parent company Linkshe: not only is this retailer "F" -rated, but there's an alert describing poor business practices and no response to requests from the BBB.

Fake reviews?

Looking around at other sources of shopper feedback, we found hundreds of five-star reviews. But, we all know what fake reviews look like, and there were definitely some that had that feel to them. There were also hundreds of 1-star ratings that frequently used phrases like "the worst" , "sizes are all over the place" , "costly mistake" and "disappointing" .

Horrible return experiences

The majority of the complaints revolve around Beachsissi's returns experience. You've only got 15 days from delivery to request a refund or an exchange. That's already bad enough, but shoppers say it gets worse: you'll be offered a refund of just $3 per item unless you pay for return shipping fees to China...of nearly $100!

Get your swimwear from a reliable retailer instead

Getting a swimsuit you're happy to wear shouldn't be this hard. Beachsissi will gladly take your money and leave you with swimwear that has a weird fit or cut, is several sizes off from what's advertised, and then stiff you when you ask for a refund. You can do so much better than this store when shopping for your next bikini or one-piece!

Continued from above...

But wait. Do stores really let you return swimsuits if you don't like how they look or fit? Yes! Of course, you usually have to keep the hygienic liner in place, the tags attached, and return it in unworn, unwashed condition in order to be eligible for a refund.

Better yet, many top online retailers of swimwear make it easy to get the right fit on your first try. How? Some provide tools that take your measurements and your feedback on how certain brands fit you (e.g. too small, too large, true to size) to give you an approximation of how any particular trunks, bikinis or one-pieces might fit. Also, look for detailed customer reviews: they're usually sortable by height and weight so you can choose ratings from shoppers with your same body type, and many times they even include candid photos.

There are a lot of online swimwear retailers to consider, from household name brands you already recognize and love to lesser-known stores with plenty of trendy and classic styles you might not find anywhere else. Where should you shop? Here are some factors to keep in mind to help you pick:

  • Who you're buying for. Some stores only sell women's swimsuits, while others include apparel for the whole family.
  • What size you need. Almost every swimsuit retailer carries standard sizes from S-XL, but not everyone has options for smaller/bigger ends of the spectrum. If you're typically challenging to fit or you need options like long torso styles, maternity or mastectomy wear, there are stores that are happy to accommodate you!
  • How easy it is to shop. The best online swimwear stores will help you find several items you'll like. They accomplish this with filters and sorting features, reviews and ratings from customers, and plenty of information about each swimsuit (like fabric, sizing charts, and so on).
  • How long you have to make a return. Some stores only give you 15 days, while others have no time limit at all! Be sure you understand the retailer's return and refund policy before you make a purchase, especially if you're shopping ahead of time and might not try the suit on right away.
  • What others say about the store. Does it have a good reputation for treating customers well? Has the Better Business Bureau given the retailer a strong rating?

Swimsuit Store FAQ

The sky's the limit! From cute, crocheted bikinis to high-performance racing suits for triathletes, there's an abundance of variety when it comes to shopping for swimsuits.
That's easy: to get the best selection! Local inventory can be limited, particularly if you're looking for a swimsuit out of season (like buying a tankini in January for an escape to the Caribbean!). Shopping online makes it so much more likely that you'll find something you love in your size.
As much or as little as you wish. You can find swimwear for as little as $15 or as expensive as $1500! But, most swimsuits will fall somewhere in the $30-$100 range.
Most online retailers of swimwear have helpful sizing guides. Take accurate measurements and buy the suit that's the closest fit. Another option is to buy 2-3 sizes in the same suit and return the ones that don't fit. Just be sure to check the store's return policy first!
Not necessarily. Most swimsuits stretch out over time, so starting off with one that feels just a little bit too snug can actually be a good thing. This is especially true with competitive swimsuits, where loose swimwear = slower race times!
Fortunately, yes: the majority of swimsuit retailers offer you a 30-day return period, and some even cover the cost of return shipping. Make sure not to remove any hygienic liners that may come with your swimsuit bottoms until you're sure you're keeping your purchase.
For women, the best option is typically a one-piece racing suit, although in more recent years many manufacturers have offered two-piece designs suitable for lap swimming (usually with a drawstring on the bottoms!). For men, avoid board shorts and look for either a bikini-style bottom or "jammers" (which are like biker shorts without the padding).
Given that swimsuits aren't cheap and that they can wear out quickly, you'll want to take good care of it to help it last as long as possible. Some tips for keeping your suit in good condition include rinsing before and after you get in the water, letting it air dry flat instead of hanging it by the straps, and keeping it out of direct sunlight. (And try not to forget it in your swim bag because it will mildew!)
