The Best Swimsuit Stores

Where is the Best Place to Buy Swimsuits Online?

Shopping for swimsuits probably means the weather is heating up or you're headed out for a fun vacation. Either way, there are about a million styles of swimsuits to choose from, that you can wear when you're soaking up the sun. However, not everyone loves shopping for swimsuits because it can be hard finding something that fits well and makes you feel confident in yourself.

It's important to find the right store that has options you can be excited about. While there will always be a few brick-and-mortar swimsuit stores you can visit to see their selection in-person, online swimsuit stores are becoming increasingly popular. Peek under the covers (or the towel), and it's easy to see why.

Old Navy has over 100 years of experience in the retail industry. This store offers extremely low prices, but we know they put out decent quality items and people are happy with what they buy here. Old Navy delivers products exactly as seen online and you'll find that their inventory is nearly always on sale. There are over 500 swimsuits to choose from here and they come in plain styles as well as bright and patterned designs. Members get free shipping on orders over $50 and free returns, so we recommend signing up today and shopping for a swimsuit right away.

Swim Outlet Review 4.5 Star Rating

Swim Outlet

4.5 Star Rating

Swim Outlet is a dream come true for competition swimmers since they have thousands of swimsuits with unfiltered customer reviews, mostly coming in under $50. They offer free shipping on orders over $49 and free returns. In addition to their performance swimwear, Swim Outlet does have some fashion bikinis and tankinis as well. Customers have nothing but great things to say about this online store and the Better Business Bureau gives them an "A” rating. You can't go wrong with this high quality retailer, so they've earned one of our highest ratings among swimsuit stores.

Macy's Review 4 Star Rating

Macy's

4 Star Rating

Macy's is the place to go if you want a huge selection of swimsuits for reasonable prices. They have thousands of choices and you can outfit the whole family when you shop here. In addition to frequent sales, Macy's offers 25% off of one purchase if you sign up for their email list. They have inclusive sizing, a 30-day return policy, free shipping with purchases over $49, and an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. We like the range of styles here, so it's definitely a great place to look for a swimsuit.

Cupshe Review 4 Star Rating

Cupshe

4 Star Rating

Cupshe is a Chinese company with clothing designed in Los Angeles and a warehouse in New Jersey that offers incredibly low prices on swimwear and other apparel. At Cupshe you'll find every type of swimsuit for $42.99 or less with free shipping if you spend over $59. There are over 1,000 choices and all of them have great product descriptions and often come with customer reviews that speak highly of the color, sizing, and materials. Although the Better Business Bureau has found fault with Cupshe, customer reviews sing their praises and people are quite thrilled with what they get from this site. Overall it's a fun place to shop and you really aren't risking much since swimsuits are so cheap, so we've Cupshe them a thumbs up.

Aerie Review 3.5 Star Rating

Aerie

3.5 Star Rating

Aerie, a sister store of the well-known apparel brand, American Eagle, is known for their bras, underwear, activewear, and swimsuits. Aerie has over 200 swimsuits that include bikinis and one-pieces. Their styles are simple and comfortable rather than flashy and unique. You won't spend much here since most swimsuits are less than $50 and you'll get 10% off if you sign up for emails, or even more if they're running a big sale. Aerie has an unlimited return window, which is great, but we aren't the biggest fans of their website and wish they had a few more details about sizing on their swimsuits. Since this is a very basic swimsuit store, they've earned a just-above-average rating from us.

J.Crew Review 3.5 Star Rating

J.Crew

3.5 Star Rating

J. Crew is an all-American, classy, upscale clothing retailer that's been around since the 1980s. They're well-liked and have a selection of high-quality, simple, timeless swimsuits. Their pricing for a swimsuit could be nearly $100 when you buy a top and bottom together unless you shop during a big sale. J. Crew offers free shipping during some of their sales and up to 50% off apparel, so you don't always have to pay full price here. J. Crew earns an "A+” rating from the BBB, but they've had a rough few years after declaring bankruptcy and being reorganized in 2020, so there are some customer complaints that need to be resolved. Overall, J. Crew is a reputable store and has a decent selection of swimwear, so we wouldn't turn a blind eye to what they have to offer.

Kohl's Review 3 Star Rating

Kohl's

3 Star Rating

Kohl's is a massive retailer with thousands of results for swimsuits and other swim-related gear. Their collection features tons of different brands and styles, all of which feel a bit random. Their website is user-friendly and organized enough, but the selection is a bit overwhelming and we wouldn't expect to find a swimsuit here that will last years or be one of your favorites for long. If you need something inexpensive and last-minute, Kohl's has tons of options and a generous 180-day return policy if you change your mind later. They're a reliable place to shop for clothing, but there are higher-rated stores with a better looking swimsuit selection you may want to shop first.

Zappos Review 3 Star Rating

Zappos

3 Star Rating

Although they're primarily known for their huge selection of shoes, Zappos has a wide selection of all types of clothing, accessories, and swimsuits. You'll find thousands of options here for men, women, and children, for mostly under $100. Zappos ships all orders for free and allows a generous 365 days for people to make returns or exchanges. The company has an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau, but some customers complain of slow shipping and poor customer service. Overall, Zappos is a solid place to look for swimsuits, but they aren't our favorite as far as their website or styles.

Beachsissi Review 2 Star Rating

Beachsissi

2 Star Rating

Beachsissi gets us excited about summer with their beautiful designs and fun patterns. With almost 1,000 swimsuits on their website, it would be impossible not to find one that you love. Unfortunately, there are a few things that make us leery of this company. All of their pricing is below $39.99 and we can't imagine that with how detailed some of these swimsuits are that they would be high quality. Their customer reviews on their site don't seem to be unfiltered, which is concerning. On top of this, the Better Business Bureau has reported a series of complaints about people not receiving refunds after sending back their swimsuits. Other third-party sites host a series of complaints from people about Beachsissi's poor quality and lack of response about refund inquiries. These concerns have led us to give Beachsissi a low rating.

Continued from above...

First, shopping online for swimsuits is super convenient. Online, the stores are accessible 24/7, which lets you browse and purchase at your leisure without the constraints of store hours or proximity. This is especially important to those of us who have busy schedules or limited shopping options.

Undeniably, the vast array of swimsuits available to you online contributes significantly to their popularity. These stores often feature an extensive selection of swimsuit styles, sizes, colors, and designs. You simply can't match that with the limited selections and sizes at a traditional store. With just a few clicks, you can explore an abundance of styles and colors, and find a swimsuit that works for your body type.

Online swimsuit stores give you plenty of information to help ensure you get the right size while allowing you thousands of options and competitive pricing. It's also a perk that you get to try your swimsuit on from the comfort of your own home rather than in a cold dressing room with harsh lighting (and we all know how THAT goes).

As long as you leave the hygienic liner on the unwashed swimsuit, you can buy as many as you want and return the ones you don't love. Your spouse or friends can help you make a decision about which swimsuits are most flattering and the whole experience can be fun and exciting. As an added plus, online stores typically have prices less (sometimes far less) than what you can find in a local store.

When deciding where to purchase a swimsuit (or a few) online, take the following things into consideration:

  • Customer reviews. What do customers have to say about their experience with the retailer and the quality of the swimming suits? There's nothing worse than paying a lot for a swimming suit that turns out to be thin and sometimes even see-through when it gets wet. Customers will be honest about the fit and how easy it is to care for the swimming suit, so pay close attention to what people say if there are unfiltered reviews on the ones you're eyeing.
  • Selection. Whether you're looking for kids' swim trunks, a men's Speedo (not judging), a bikini, or a full coverage one-piece, you'll want to find a store that has a lot of great patterns and details to fit your personal style. It's also nice to find somewhere that has accessories like swim skirts, kids' floaties, cover ups, and even water shoes.
  • Return policy. Buying a swimsuit may be one of the pickiest purchases you ever make, so there's a good chance you'll need to take advantage of a return policy. It's great if you shop somewhere that offers a generous return window and will give you a full refund without any restocking fees. Pay attention to customer reviews to make sure the store is reliable with their refunds and credits their customers quickly.

Swimsuit Store FAQ

The sky's the limit! From cute, crocheted bikinis to high-performance racing suits for triathletes, there's an abundance of variety when it comes to shopping for swimsuits.
That's easy: to get the best selection! Local inventory can be limited, particularly if you're looking for a swimsuit out of season (like buying a tankini in January for an escape to the Caribbean!). Shopping online makes it so much more likely that you'll find something you love in your size.
As much or as little as you wish. You can find swimwear for as little as $15 or as expensive as $1500! But, most swimsuits will fall somewhere in the $30-$100 range.
Most online retailers of swimwear have helpful sizing guides. Take accurate measurements and buy the suit that's the closest fit. Another option is to buy 2-3 sizes in the same suit and return the ones that don't fit. Just be sure to check the store's return policy first!
Not necessarily. Most swimsuits stretch out over time, so starting off with one that feels just a little bit too snug can actually be a good thing. This is especially true with competitive swimsuits, where loose swimwear = slower race times!
Fortunately, yes: the majority of swimsuit retailers offer you a 30-day return period, and some even cover the cost of return shipping. Make sure not to remove any hygienic liners that may come with your swimsuit bottoms until you're sure you're keeping your purchase.
For women, the best option is typically a one-piece racing suit, although in more recent years many manufacturers have offered two-piece designs suitable for lap swimming (usually with a drawstring on the bottoms!). For men, avoid board shorts and look for either a bikini-style bottom or "jammers” (which are like biker shorts without the padding).
Given that swimsuits aren't cheap and that they can wear out quickly, you'll want to take good care of it to help it last as long as possible. Some tips for keeping your suit in good condition include rinsing before and after you get in the water, letting it air dry flat instead of hanging it by the straps, and keeping it out of direct sunlight. (And try not to forget it in your swim bag because it will mildew!)
