Buy a swimsuit from a big-name department store? Absolutely, if it's Nordstrom! Read on to find out why it might be the first place you click to buy swimsuits online.
Spend $15 or $1000 - with many options in between
You'll find a broad spectrum of brands at Nordstrom - with corresponding pricing. Just for fun, we looked for the most expensive swimwear sold here, and we weren't disappointed. Nordstrom was offering a Missoni Zigzag Cover-Up Tunic dress for $1085 and a Balmain Denim Print Two-Piece Swimsuit for $945. (All with free delivery or in-store pickup if available near you!) On the opposite side, there were lots of bikini bottoms for under $15 (also with free delivery!).
Swimsuits sized for every body
Nordstrom has some of the best sizing options for the whole family. If you've got a lake trip coming up and your people need smaller or bigger sizes than average, this retailer's got you covered (literally). These aren't a bunch of swimsuits from obscure brands that might not fit properly, either: how about Vineyard Vines, Nike or Under Armour, among many more? There were more than 300 trunks/shorts and rashguard options for boys, about the same amount of one- and two-piece swimsuits and cover-ups for girls, 700+ styles for guys, and an astounding 2600+ choices of swimwear for the ladies.
Use the filters to save time
Because there are so many to choose from, we recommend using the filters on the side of the page. This lets you easily shop by brand, color, material, size, price or style. Your list of matching swimsuits can then be sorted by price, popularity, featured or new arrivals, but the thumbnails give you a good idea of each item's price, color options and overall customer ratings.
Reviews helpful but slightly limited
The Nordstrom swimsuit with the highest number of shopper reviews was the women's La Blanca Island Goddess One-Piece, priced at $79. It comes in six colors and sizes from 2-16. More than 400 customers left their opinions on this swimwear, with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Compared with other stores, Nordstrom's reviews aren't quite as helpful: you can't sort them by the height and weight of the commenter (to find the ones that are a close match to you) and there weren't any shopper-posted photos.
Best return policy around
Nordstrom is very generous when it comes to returns. They place no time limit on sending a swimsuit back for a refund or exchange. They're a little vague about their other requirements: in the FAQ where it asks if worn items can be returned, it just says "We will do our best to take care of customers and deal with them fairly; from time to time we may not accept a return." We imagine that means you might be able to get a refund if you wear your Nordstrom swimsuit once or twice and the fabric stretches out unexpectedly, but probably not if you've used it on three Caribbean vacations and want to send it back years after you bought it. You can return your online purchase to any store near you, or with a no-cost, prepaid shipping label you print at home or at a USPS location when you show your scannable return code. It doesn't get any easier!
Store with a solid reputation
And, there are really no concerns about Nordstrom's reputation either: "A+" rated by the BBB and with the better part of a century in business. Yes, the retailer gets its fair share of customer complaints, but that's to be expected when you have many in-person retail locations and a well-stocked online store.
Swimwear superstar
No matter who on your shopping list needs a new pair of swim trunks or the latest style of bikini, you'll find more than enough options at Nordstrom. The range of brands they carry and their extremely open return policy are just two of the reasons we give this store one of our highest rankings among retailers of swimsuits.
Let's face it: most of us really don't like shopping for swimwear, even when we have hundreds of options right at our fingertips. Standing in front of a changing room mirror, under harsh lighting and with barely enough room to turn around, is not exactly a recipe for a mood-boosting retail experience. What if it didn't have to be that way?
Good news: it doesn't! You can buy your next swimsuit online and try it on in the privacy of your own home, no fluorescent lights required. Snap a photo and text your friends to see if they like it, use a filter to see how you'd look wearing it at the beach - it's really that easy.
But wait. Do stores really let you return swimsuits if you don't like how they look or fit? Yes! Of course, you usually have to keep the hygienic liner in place, the tags attached, and return it in unworn, unwashed condition in order to be eligible for a refund.
Better yet, many top online retailers of swimwear make it easy to get the right fit on your first try. How? Some provide tools that take your measurements and your feedback on how certain brands fit you (e.g. too small, too large, true to size) to give you an approximation of how any particular trunks, bikinis or one-pieces might fit. Also, look for detailed customer reviews: they're usually sortable by height and weight so you can choose ratings from shoppers with your same body type, and many times they even include candid photos.
There are a lot of online swimwear retailers to consider, from household name brands you already recognize and love to lesser-known stores with plenty of trendy and classic styles you might not find anywhere else. Where should you shop? Here are some factors to keep in mind to help you pick:
