Buying tires can seem like a daunting task, but with the right approach, you can easily navigate the process and find the best tires for your vehicle. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through it.
Start by assessing your driving habits and the conditions you frequently encounter. Do you drive mostly on highways, in the city, or off-road? Are you dealing with snow, rain, or extreme heat? The answers will help you decide whether you need all-season tires, summer tires, winter tires, or a specialized type like off-road or performance tires.

Starting in Indianapolis in 1979, Tire Rack now serves customers from 10 distribution centers nationwide. They pour tons of money and time into research, complete with a test track at their Indiana headquarters, so that they can give you first-hand insights into any tires you're considering. They've even gone to Sweden to test tires' performance on acres of groomed snow - after not getting all the details they wanted on local ice rinks and their own snowy test track. If you're looking for a tire store that really goes the distance (pun intended) to bring you the right wheels, this is it. (Also, for what it's worth, Tire Rack was acquired by Discount Tire back in 2021, but at least at the time of this review, they still maintained separate profiles online.)
Test case: ample options for both vehicles
Ready to get shopping? You can find your new tires on Tire Rack through the size, brand, category, wheel diameter, or vehicle make/model/year/trim. To see how each tire store on our list measured up, we used a search for a 2021 Toyota Corolla and a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck. Let's see how Tire Rack performed on our own "test track”:
Helpful for less experienced customers
One thing we really appreciated about the Tire Rack website is how clearly it tells you which tires would have come as the original equipment (OEM) on the vehicle. While some of us are all about the customizations and using optional tire sizes for look or performance, the majority of tire shoppers just shrug and say, "I don't know what I need... can't you look it up for me?”
At-a-glance info
Once you've got a list of results, it's easy to quickly scan through and see the pertinent specs, from the manufacturer's warranty to whether or not the tires are in stock and available for delivery.
In-depth product details
Pick a tire and get rolling (we hear you groaning), because there's so much more to discover on the product pages here. If you want full specs or details on warranty coverage, or you want to look at the test results from Tire Rack's testing, it's all on offer - even down to videos displaying the tire's performance. You can also see reviews from other vehicle owners and see if any of them used the tire on the same car as you.
So many installation choices
Ready for installation? As long as you've picked a tire that's in-stock, you're good to go; otherwise, you can add the tires you want to the cart, and Tire Rack will give you an estimated date for when they'll be available. We saw that happen in a few cases when there wasn't a full set of 4 tires in stock. For the Tesla Cybertruck tires we priced out, we had 3 installation options through Tire Rack in our area: through Discount Tire (who we've reviewed separately, and who we were glad to see featured by Tire Rack as an installer qualified to service electric vehicles) for $110, through an independent installer recommended by Tire Rack, or simply have your tires delivered to your own installer (which might even be yourself). Most of the independent installers on Tire Rack's list were more expensive ($120+ on that Cybertruck), and when you choose installation through Tire Rack or Discount Tire, you also get free life of tire rotations and rebalancing, flat tire repair, tire inspection, air checks, and tread depth checks.
Free road hazard protection and roadside assistance for 2 years
There's a long list of additional benefits you'll get when ordering from Tire Rack. Some are fairly standard, like free shipping on all tires (well, technically on orders over $50). Others are genuinely noteworthy, like two years of free road hazard protection and roadside assistance with most tires they sell. This includes replacement at the current price, up to $599 or repair reimbursement up to $40.
Over 10,000 5-star reviews
Tire Rack's reputation is nothing short of exceptional. The Better Business Bureau has given this tire store an "A+” rating and accreditation since 1988 - longer than most cars on the road today have been around (and many of us too). There were only 133 complaints filed with the BBB in the last three years; contrast that with the 1,500+ reviews left on the BBB site that averaged an almost-perfect 4.83/5 stars. It's the same average when you consider Tire Rack's track record on Google reviews: 95% of ratings spanning 10,000+ entries are a flawless 5 stars. We saw numerous comments from repeat customers who say that this store always sells tires at a fair price and delivers them on time, with no drama when it comes to arranging the installation.
#1 tire store
While Discount Tire and Tire Rack may technically be the same company now, we think Tire Rack is still the leader. By all means, order your new tires through Tire Rack and have them installed at Discount Tire if that's what's near you - but we think Tire Rack's website, selection, and overall customer experience are just a smidge above what we saw with its sister site. The next time you're shopping for tires, Tire Rack will give you as much information as you can handle, excellent customer service, top-notch benefits, and hassle-free installation. We happily give Tire Rack our #1 ranking and 5-star rating.
Discount Tire got its start all the way back in 1960. Bruce Halle was the "one-man-band” behind the store, operating his shop solo out of a remodeled plumbing supply building in Ann Arbor, MI. Fast forward 60+ years, and you'll find more than 1,100 Discount Tire locations across 38 states. Additionally, Discount Tire purchased Tire Rack back in 2021, so you'll probably see some similarities and connections across the two sites - which opens up even more options for you.
Excellent website
Using the Discount Tire website is a breeze. Enter the details about your vehicle and include your zip code, and they'll show you exactly which tires are a match at your nearest location (which you can change if, say, you prefer one that's close to work). As you browse your options, you can see at a glance how other drivers have rated that tire, stopping distance at 60 mph on both wet and dry roads, a tread life estimate, and how many are in stock at the Discount Tire location you specified. If you're really into the nerdy details, you can also click on the full report and see specs for fuel efficiency, winter rating, tire life and cost, and ratings from customers with feedback on how the tires performed on their specific vehicles.
Test case: "yes” to Tesla and Toyota
Discount Tire had zero trouble offering us options for both vehicles we used in our comparison quotes across tire stores. For the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck AWD, we were shown options from Michelin, Cooper, and Toyo Tire, priced from $346 to $475 per tire. On the 2021 Toyota Corolla LE, our options were priced from $65 to $206 per tire, with brands that included Sentury, Radar, GT Radial, Road Hugger, Arizonian, Falken, Yokohama, Goodyear, Michelin, and Bridgestone.
Treadwell tool = perfectly-suited tires
We'll point out that those tires were the ones recommended by Discount Tire after we walked through its Treadwell Tire Guide questions on the website: you provide more information about your vehicle and your typical driving habits (mostly city, mostly highway), and they'll give you not just the tires that fit your car or truck but the ones that also are the best fit for your usage and climate.
Price matching and financing offered
If you happen to spot the tires you want for a lower price somewhere else, Discount Tire wants to match or beat it. Click where it says, "found it lower?” under the image of the tire, and you can submit your price match request online (just have the URL of the competitor's website ready to paste in there). And, speaking of pricing, if you're not quite ready to pay for your tires in full today, Discount Tire offers financing options through its own credit card and via Affirm: just click at the top of the site for more details.
Road hazard protection costs extra
Once you've added your tires to the cart and proceed to checkout, you'll be offered Discount Tire's protection plan, called "Tire Certificates”. It gives you a full refund if you have a non-repairable road hazard event within 3 years of your purchase date (and you still have more than 3/32” of tread depth on your tires). On a purchase of four Bridgestone tires for the Toyota Corolla, Tire Certificates added an extra $150.84 to our total.
Installation starts around $22/tire
We weren't so excited to see that the installation and "life of tire maintenance” fees weren't disclosed until the very end of the checkout. Expect to pay about $22/tire for that at Discount Tire. On the other hand, we were glad that the website had a big blue prompt reminding us that with a free Discount Tire membership/account, we could save $80 on the particular tires we were buying; you may want to create that no-cost account too. From there, you'll enter your information and schedule an appointment at the location you prefer.
Tire maintenance is a perk
Back to those "life of tire maintenance” fees. It's actually a nice perk. We couldn't find it spelled out anywhere, so we popped open a live chat. Impressed by the fact that we reached someone on a Saturday of a 3-day holiday weekend, we learned that it provides free rotations, balancing, flat repair, TPMS resets, inspections, and air checks for the life of the tire. Points to Discount Tire!
"A+” from the BBB
And reputation? Discount Tire has an "A+” from the Better Business Bureau, despite having 500+ complaints registered there over the last three years. That's about what you'd expect from a tire store with over a thousand locations, though, and the perfect score from the BBB means that Discount Tire is responding appropriately to all of them.
Mixed feedback on specific locations
However, feedback from customers is more mixed, and again, it really depends on the location you visit to have your tires installed. Some Discount Tire stores have loyal customers who wouldn't dream of getting their tires anywhere else, while others have rants from people who had their cars damaged during installation or who received poor customer service from a particular manager or tech. Then again, one point that shines through in most places we look is that Discount Tire doesn't try to take advantage of less experienced shoppers or to upsell in an effort to make a bigger buck. That alone could be reassuring if you're nervous about making this kind of purchase.
Excellent tire store
At the end of the day, we're still big fans of Discount Tire. They offer a lot of benefits at no extra cost, their selection and pricing is solid, and people really appreciate the "no BS” approach this tire store takes to customer service. Plus, given that Discount Tire has a relationship with the #1 brand on our list, we're pretty confident that there's nothing but good things in this company's future too.
SimpleTire puts technology to work for you, connecting you with a network of over 10,000 tire installers and 3,000 independent supply points. Long story short, you'll find an incredible selection of both tires and installation choices when you buy your tires from this online-only storefront. More than 7 million customers have been served by SimpleTire over the last 15+ years. And, this company recently earned Newsweek's award for being one of America's best online shops.
Get personalized tire recommendations
When you provide your vehicle information and answer some questions about your driving style, SimpleTire will give you a personalized recommendation of the top 3-5 tires that fit what you entered. But, you're always welcome to browse the store's entire selection, which spans over 300 tire brands, and you'll be able to see how many tires there are that fit your vehicle in the entire SimpleTire inventory.
Test case: lots of options for Corolla, just one for Cybertruck
Let's see how SimpleTire did when asked to provide tires for our two comparison vehicles: a 2021 Toyota Corolla LE and a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck. There were a whopping 292 options for the Corolla, ranging in price from $49.96/tire for the Montreal All-Season Passenger Tire to $251.40/tire for the Pirelli UHP Summer Passenger Tire. For the Cybertruck, the only option SimpleTire gave us was the Goodyear Wrangler Territory at $424.99/tire. (It was interesting to us that it differed from the tire model that Goodyear itself recommended, so be sure to do your research.)
High-level details if you want them
As you browse the tires appropriate for your vehicle, there's a wealth of information you can consider at SimpleTire. They have a proprietary rating system that shows you how the tire ranks with respect to durability, traction, and mileage warranty. If you want to get really technical, keep scrolling and learn more. For example, on the tire recommended for the Tesla Cybertruck, we learned that it's used as OEM on the 2021 RAM 1500 TRX, along with all of the specs like tread design, rim range, and much more.
Join the "SimpleCrew” for free benefits
If you sign up for SimpleTire's "SimpleCrew” membership - which is free - you can unlock a discount of $25 off a purchase of $250+. This will also get you a 10% discount on many tires and access to other exclusive discounts. You should see that pop-up right when you visit the SimpleTire website.
Price matching
Another way to save money is with SimpleTire's best price guarantee. If you see a lower price on the tires you want on a different website, you can use their live chat to send them the link and they'll match it.
3 financing options
And, if you need financing, SimpleTire offers not one but three options: Klarna, Affirm, and SimplePay. You'll see all of the details for those financing methods right on each tire's page.
Total transparency with installation options
Let's look at the benefits of getting tires here. First, every installation comes with 12 months of 24/7 roadside assistance (as long as you purchase at least 4 tires). You've also got options for installation at either a local shop or mobile (where the installer comes to you). What we absolutely adore about this part is that you can choose the shop or the installer you want: the price for installation is clearly displayed, along with the earliest available date for the installation, reviews for the local tire shop or the installation service, even a photo of the location or the mobile company's truck.
Great reputation
How about reputation? SimpleTire has a perfect score at the Better Business Bureau, earning both an "A+” rating and accreditation despite the 130+ complaints filed there in the last three years. You'll find the complaints that are common to online tire stores, like tires that get separated during delivery and make customers wait longer to get them installed, but we didn't see anything unusual. Feedback left on Trustpilot is mostly positive too, with an average of 4 stars out of 5 spanning over 670 reviews (and 75% of ratings were either 4- or 5-stars). Shoppers praise the delivery speed, the pricing, and overall shopping experience. They're also grateful that SimpleTire offers live customer help every day but Sunday, making it easy for people who may not have time to buy tires during the week to check it off their to-do list on Saturday.
Fantastic option among tire stores
SimpleTire does an excellent job all around. Pricing is fantastic, service is equally great, and it's one of a very small number of tire stores that gives mobile installation options. We love the transparency at every step of the way here, and we're glad to give SimpleTire a near-perfect rating.
Jared Kugel, the founder of Tire Agent, grew up seeing how traditional tire stores operate - his family owned both retail stores and distribution centers. He set out to create an online tire store that made it convenient and easy for customers to be educated about their purchase and get the tires installed wherever was best for their schedule. You'll love how easily you can get help: customer service is on standby Monday through Saturday, via phone, email and live chat. Looks like Jared is accomplishing his mission through Tire Agent!
Test case: 170 options for the Corolla
To test out each of the tire stores on our list, we searched for options for both a 2021 Toyota Corolla LE and a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck. After answering a few basic questions about our car, we were taken to nearly 170 results for the Corolla alone. The first few tires were the ones that Tire Agent thought would be the best value: one had a $100 rebate, another had a longer-than-average warranty, and the third offered superior traction in rain/snow. After that, we were able to finally see our options ranked in the way we asked (priced low-high and high-low). Prices here ranged from $74.73/tire on the Crossmax CT-1 to $270.89/tire on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.
Test case: best selection for the Cybertruck
Tire Agent did phenomenally with tire options for the Tesla Cybertruck. While some competitors had nothing to offer or just one or two styles, Tire Agent came in clutch with 22 matching tires. Those ranged from $274.27/tire for the Crosswind M/T All Season to $523.99/tire for the BFGoodrich HD-Terrain T/A KT.
Easy-breezy installation choices (including DIY)
So, now that we know that selection isn't an issue here, what are the other benefits of buying your tires from Tire Agent? The biggest is probably installation: not only do your tires ship for free, but you can choose whether you want to put them on yourself or choose a local installer. Enter your zip code and you can see what options are in your area; in our test location, we could get both mobile installation (through Roll by Goodyear) and in-shop installation, mostly at Tire Choice Auto Service Centers. Just make sure you have your tires shipped to the installer of your choice and not to your home, in that case.
Missing a few details and perks
There are only a few slight downsides we noticed with Tire Agent. First, there's no customer rating system on the tires: something we like to use when trying to make a decision between two tires and/or brands. There's also not quite as much information on each tire; while some rivals show you easy-to-understand graphics for stopping distance, durability, and other key features, Tire Agent just gives you a descriptive overview and a list of technical specs. Finally, any after-purchase benefits depend on the tire brand you choose: some come with roadside assistance and road hazard protection (like the Continental tires we considered for the Corolla) and others simply don't. These aren't huge failings on Tire Agent's part, but it makes this tire store a little less robust than some of its rivals.
Near-perfect reputation
The Better Business Bureau gives Tire Agent an "A+” rating and accreditation for appropriately handling the 140+ complaints received in the last 3 years. Beyond the BBB rating, we were flabbergasted to see that this tire store had received over 15,000 5-star reviews on Google alone, averaging 4.8 stars out of 5. We found the same average (and the same glowing feedback) on Trustpilot too. Across the board, customers say that Tire Agent delivers on time (or early), the selection and pricing is excellent, and that installation comes off without a hitch.
Lots of financing options if you need them
There were also numerous mentions of the financing options you can access through Tire Agent. In this economy, a lot of people don't have the money to pay for 4 tires upfront; from the looks of it, Tire Agent is making it possible for customers to afford what they need, when they need it. That includes "No Money Down” options through a variety of payment plan lenders, like Koalafi, American First Finance, and others. You can also pay with Affirm, Afterpay, PayPal, Cash App Pay, and many more.
Best tire store if you need "no money down” options
Tire Agent is the right choice if you know right now that financing is going to be a concern - because it likely won't be an issue if you shop here. The selection is great and customer service is too, so if you can overlook the fact that you might not get as many perks as rivals tend to offer, Tire Agent is a great tire store to consider.
Akron, Ohio is the birthplace of Goodyear. Started as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company back in 1898, this company has kept the world moving ever since - from its Goodyear Blimp that has people racing to spot it in the sky to NASCAR that just keeps people, well, racing.
120+ Goodyear styles plus Dunlop and Kelly
Naturally, Goodyear primarily carries its own brand of tire. But, you'll have over 120 styles to choose from, whether you're looking for a basic all-season tire, something for sport performance, or one that is designed to handle all types of terrain. And, you may spot some options from Dunlop and Kelly in the inventory here too.
Easy VIN/license plate lookup
To get started, you can either enter the basics of vehicle year, make, and model, or make it easy on yourself and enter your car's license plate number or VIN. We went the latter route for the first comparison vehicle in our research, a 2021 Toyota Corolla LE. It was a little confusing when it asked us to specify the tire rim... but then gave us two choices that were exactly the same. Still, we were glad that it correctly identified our car and let us move smoothly into looking at options.
Test case: 12 options for the Corolla
For that Corolla, Goodyear gave us 12 results to choose from, priced from $110 to $189 per tire. The most recommended was the Eagle Sport All-Season, priced at $145/tire or $580 for a set of 4, plus there was a $75 cash back deal (or $150 back when purchasing with a Goodyear credit card). Browsing those tires, it was easy to see at a glance what the benefits were for each one. That included the warranty coverage, if it was suited for commuter travels or sport performance (or both), if it could run on flat, and so forth. You could also check out the review average, but Goodyear doesn't tell you how many customers' feedback went into that average or let you see any specific comments.
Test case: just 1 option for the Cybertruck
How about the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck that we used as our harder-to-find tire in our comparison? Goodyear recommended the Wrangler DuraTrac RT-LT as the one tire model in their inventory that would work for this vehicle. It was priced at $475/tire, on par with rivals' prices for comparable tires (and kudos to Goodyear for having a Cybertruck-compatible tire when not all tire stores did).
Offers both in-store and mobile installation
Goodyear offers not one but two types of installation: in-store and Roll Mobile. That's a big benefit if maybe your car isn't drivable on its current tires and that's the whole reason you need new ones. Impressively, it may cost the same either way; on the Corolla tires we looked at, the price was $29.95/tire. That's higher than many of the tire stores we evaluated, but it's a particularly good value if you choose the mobile installation option. On the Cybertruck, there was an additional $20 fee for Roll Mobile installation, but that's pretty understandable given the size and complexity of the vehicle itself. For in-person installations, it'll depend on who Goodyear has in your area as a partner; in the area we researched, our options were primarily Mavis Tires (reviewed separately on our list) and Tire Kingdom.
Perks are a bit of a mixed bag
Let's talk about the perks of buying tires directly from Goodyear (instead of a tire store that offers multiple brands). The company offers a 60-day satisfaction guarantee: if you decide that those sport performance tires really aren't performing how you expected, you can exchange them for a different style. There are a few terms and conditions, though, so make sure to read up on those if you think this could apply to you. You can also opt to add road hazard protection to your purchase, but Goodyear only makes that available at your installation appointment. And, some perks that rival tire stores offer as part of your purchase are available to anyone at Goodyear - like a free alignment check and free tire air pressure check. Other services that some competitors also include with purchase are "priced in store” with Goodyear, such as a TPMS check, balancing, and rotation.
"A+” from the BBB as you'd expect
Are you really surprised to learn that Goodyear has an "A+” rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau? We weren't. It's what you would (and should) expect from a company whose history goes back over 125 years. Most of the complaints we've seen are related to services beyond tires, and typically describe an issue at a location and not with the products themselves. And, that BBB rating means that Goodyear is doing a fantastic job of addressing any problems as they're brought up.
A tire store you can trust
Considering all of these factors, we give Goodyear a good rating as a tire store. We're disappointed that, despite being one of the biggest names in the industry, they offer so few perks as part of the tire purchase - ones that some rivals include at no extra cost. On the other hand, not every tire store gives you the option of mobile installation, even on a Cybertruck. Goodyear is a brand you can trust, one of the original names in the automotive tire industry, and that's enough to come in as an above-average tire store in our book.
Tires Easy has been in business since 2004, selling over 7 million tires from hundreds of brands, delivered from over a thousand warehouses nationwide. They want to take the worry out of buying tires online by offering 45-day returns, free delivery, and easy installation options at local partner shops near you.
Easy-to-use website
The interface at Tires Easy is really, well, easy to use. In just a few clicks, you can shop by your car's make and model, the tire size, or tire brand (and the site will remember what you've entered before, so that you don't lose your place). Just follow the prompts and answer the questions, and you'll soon land on all of the tires in their inventory that are a good match.
Test case: zero for Cybertruck, many options for Corolla
How did Tires Easy do on tires for our two comparison vehicles, a 2021 Toyota Corolla LE and a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck (base model)? On the latter, Tires Easy flat-out came up with nothing: "We currently do not have any inventory to match your car model.” On the Corolla, unsurprisingly, Tires Easy had plenty of options: the online tire finder recommended seven choices from Hankook, Pirelli, Continental, and Bridgestone. It was easy to see which one was the best deal, the top rated, and the best price. Prices ranged from $70.72 to $225.70 per tire. It's also no problem to buy tires in the quantity you need. The site assumes you're buying four at a time (and there's lots of good reasons to do so), but you can buy anywhere from 1-10 in your purchase.
Lots of details and installation options
As you browse your options, Tires Easy puts the important details right upfront: not just the price, but the estimated delivery time, any available discounts and offers, and whether or not installation is offered on that particular tire. Once you've added your tires to the cart, you'll be able to indicate if you'd rather have them delivered to you or installed for an extra fee. For example, on those Pirelli tires for the Corolla we used as an example, we were able to choose among several Pep Boys locations and select an installation date, at a price of $27.99 per tire.
Repair and replacement coverage available
Speaking of extras, you've got the option to add tire repair and replacement coverage during checkout. It covers your tires for three years against punctures, snags, cuts, and impacts, with replacement for up to 100% of the tire cost and repairs reimbursed for up to $40/tire. It also includes roadside assistance for tire damage. On the Pirelli tires for the Toyota Corolla, this protection added $106.64 to our total.
2 financing options if needed
And, when it comes time to pay, Tires Easy offers not one but two financing options. See the site for more details on Affirm and Katapult, if you're just not ready to put your entire purchase on your credit card.
Free membership = benefits
If you sign up for a free membership with Tires Easy (often referred to as "Secret Price Mode”), you'll get special pricing if you're logged in as you shop. You'll also get exclusive sales and offers, and you can save all of the vehicles in your household to your account. That should save you some time when you need to shop for tires again in the future.
Good reputation beyond the BBB
Tires Easy has a pretty disappointing "C-” rating from the Better Business Bureau, but that's just for not responding to three of the 12 complaints filed against them in the last three years. (Not exactly a long track record of short-changing its customers.) On the other hand, over 100 Tires Easy shoppers took the time to leave a review with the BBB, and those average a fantastic 4.25 stars out of 5. People said that their orders were delivered quickly and the tires were really affordable. On ResellerRatings, there are a whopping 20,000+ reviews and an even more impressive average of 4.43 out of 5 stars - but most of those customer comments praised the online shopping experience before their orders even arrived, so we take all of those with a grain of salt. Finally, looking at feedback on Trustpilot, it was much the same: 75% of customers give Tires Easy a five-star rating, and comments there did speak to satisfaction after the tires were installed.
Tires may be new... but old
One thing we noticed that we'd advise you to check when you receive your order: some reviews mentioned that their tires were brand new... but had been manufactured 3-4 years prior. Many experts would say that you want to get new tires on within 6 months of when they were made, so pay attention to that if you buy your tires from Tires Easy.
Better than average tire store
Overall, we give Tires Easy an above-average rating. There are quite a few things we appreciate about this tire store, like how easy it is to use the website or to get financing when needed. But, they've dropped the ball in a few areas (like having nothing for the Cybertruck or reportedly shipping used tires as new in a few cases). While we'd suggest considering Tires Easy's higher-ranked rivals first, this is still a tire store we can recommend in general.
Priority Tire is based in Allentown, PA and has been selling tires for over 20 years. This family-owned business expanded to include warehouses in Texas, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, and California, allowing them to store your tires safely and deliver them quickly, wherever you live in the US. And, if you've got questions or need help figuring out which tires to buy, Priority Tire has help available via phone, email, and live chat from 8A-9P Monday-Friday and from 8A-5P on Saturdays (all times Eastern).
Test case: over 200 options for Corolla, nothing for Tesla vehicles
When shopping here for new tires, you can start either by tire size (if you're a gearhead who knows that off the top of your head) or by vehicle. We used two specific cars for our comparison across tire stores: a 2021 Toyota Corolla and a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck, starting our search by vehicle. We were glad that Priority Tire correctly identified that the Corolla could come with different OEM tire sizes and provided a helpful diagram to where we could identify the right size on the tire itself. (Don't laugh: not everyone knows that.) This tire store had over 230 options for the Corolla, which went in price from $56.93/tire for the Landspider Citytraxx H/P All Season Tire to $291.99/tire for the Yokohama Advan Neova XL Tire. Unfortunately, Priority Tire kind of choked when it came to the Cybertruck: not only did they not offer a single tire option, they didn't even list Tesla as a brand we could choose. Sorry, Tesla fanatics, but this won't be the tire store for you...
Biggest brand selection online
But, assuming you drive a more standard make and model of car, you're not going to be disappointed by the selection at Priority Tire. They carry not a dozen or even a hundred but over a thousand brands: all of the big names you know, like Michelin and Firestone, and lesser-known manufacturers from A(ccelera) to Z(owin).
Check out the reviews on each tire
When you click on a tire that interests you, you won't get any nifty graphics showing you the tire's stopping distance on slick roads or its expected lifespan mileage-wise. But, you can click on the tire specs and details, or go to our favorite part: customer reviews. That's really going to come in handy if you're curious about one of those unknown-to-you brands we mentioned are on offer here.
Lots of ways to save
This tire store goes the extra mile (see what we did there?) to help you afford new tires. First off, they offer a 5% discount if you're a teacher, healthcare worker, first responder, or member of the military. They also offer several different types of financing, including options that let you buy now and pay later with low monthly payments. You may also be able to get $5 off your purchase as a first-time buyer with the code FIRST5, but better promos might be available at the top of the site (like the one at the time of our review that was $15 off an order of $150+). That's in addition to any manufacturer rebates that might be in effect, and you can see those right away on the Priority Tire website too.

Installation is hit-or-miss
Installation is where things went a little off the rails for us. When we went to checkout and opted for free shipping to an installer, we were given a pop-up asking us to choose a store. It took us a few tries before we realized that it wasn't asking for a zip code but rather for an exact address; that let us choose our home, work, or any other place that we wanted a convenient location nearby. When we finally figured it out, we were only given two options within the radius we selected - both Action Gator Tire Stores - even though we were offered many local installation locations when shopping for tires at other stores. We weren't given the option to schedule an appointment or to know exactly how much it would cost for the installation, so it felt like we had to essentially order blindly and hope that someone on the shop's end would catch the ball and be available.
Terrific reputation
And yet, Priority Tire's reputation is fantastic. The Better Business Bureau gives this tire store its accreditation and an "A+” rating, showing its approval for how the company has handled the 170+ complaints registered there in the last three years. We were also surprised to see that almost 900 people visited the BBB to leave a compliment for Priority Tire. This retailer really seems to shine when it comes to faster-than-promised delivery and low prices, and we're happy to see glowing reviews from repeat customers too. We see the same positive feedback on Google reviews, Trustpilot, and pretty much everywhere we checked.
Better than average overall, but with room to grow
There are a lot of great things we could say about Priority Tire. The brand selection is unmatched, and tons of customers are really glad they chose this tire store for their purchase. We weren't as thrilled with the overall experience, especially compared with some of our top picks, and it was disappointing to see that Priority Tire won't even touch tires when it comes to Teslas. This retailer is certainly above average, but this score is as much as we can give Priority Tire in comparison with some of its rivals.
Ever wondered if you should get your tires at Walmart? It's hard to beat for convenience alone: drop your car off, head inside, and they'll replace your tires while you shop. The inventory for tires at Walmart spans 24 brands, from budget-friendly to familiar big names, and you don't have to worry about putting the tires on yourself when you choose ones that are available for installation. Let's jump in and see what it's like to get your tires here.
Helps you find your tire's info
In order to buy tires at Walmart, you'll start with the basics of make, model, and year. If you don't know your tire size, you're going to need it to get to your tire options. But, helpfully, Walmart offers a link to show you where to find both your vehicle details (like the sub model or trim level) and the tire information - it's nice that they don't assume you have that top of mind.
Test case: Pirelli tires for Cybertrucks
Believe it or not, Walmart did have tires suitable for the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck (base model) that we used as a comparison across all of the tire stores on our list. Of course, if you've got the money to buy a Cybertruck, we're pretty darn sure you won't be getting your tires at Walmart, but at least now you know you could. The options were all by Pirelli, in the Scorpion line, priced at $461.68.
Test case: so many choices for Corollas
We were a little overwhelmed by the 1,000+ results we got when we looked for tires on our second comparison vehicle, a 2021 Toyota Corolla LE. Those ranged from $48.91/tire for the Waterfall Eco Dynamic to $160.96/tire for the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max All-Season Tires.
Installation setup can be confusing
If you're looking to have Walmart install your tires (instead of just shipping them to you), make sure to choose that filter. For the Corolla options, that brought our selection down to "just” 997 tires, so obviously you'll still have plenty to consider. It was hard to find the details for installation; it didn't show up until we got to the checkout, and even then it was a pretty small link to click on. But, we were able to indicate which Walmart we preferred, and it showed us in real time if we could have our tires installed there. Then again, from what we could tell, we'd still have to take delivery of the tires at our address, and then bring them to our preferred Walmart to have them put on. That's a hassle we don't love. It was also hard to figure out how to schedule the installation and when: do you wait for your tires to come and then set it up, just in case they come late? You may need to make a call to your local Walmart Tire Center and ask for yourself.
Not a ton of perks
What extra benefits do you get with your Walmart tire installation? They'll reset your TPMS (that monitors your tire pressure) and give you a complimentary re-torque within the first 50 miles after the install (if you remember to do it). All other services, some of which are included at no cost by competitors, come with an extra fee at Walmart. This includes the computerized lifetime tire balancing and rotation. But, we didn't see where to purchase that online, or where we could add the additional warranty protection that was mentioned. Is it that surprising that Walmart's process and benefits feels a little... cheap?
Check out the reviews on specific tires
We all know Walmart's overall reputation, but what about for tires specifically? The easiest thing to do is to look at the reviews on the tires themselves. Many of the options we saw had over 1,000 ratings; the Waterfall Eco Dynamic All-Season, as an example, had over 9,000 (and averaged an impressive 4.3 stars out of 5 on a tire that costs $61.95).
Not a bad choice if you're on a tight budget
Should you buy your tires from Walmart? If budget is your primary concern, absolutely. These are going to be some of the least expensive options on the market. You're going to have to jump through more hoops, though, especially on the install - and you could be missing some crucial benefits that other tire stores offer for free with your purchase. Do the math, and if Walmart works out for you, it's not the worst place to get tires.
Wheel Hero is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has been serving customers online since 2013 after over 20 years of retail experience in Miami. They carry about 40 brands of tires, and their SEMA-Certified tire specialists are on standby to help you figure out which tires are the best for your vehicle.
Make sure you know your tire size
Of course, you can always use the website if you don't need that kind of assistance: just select the year, make, and model of your vehicle, and then if you want tires, wheels, or a wheels/tires package. If needed, you'll be prompted to answer additional questions, so that Wheel Hero can recommend tires that will be the perfect fit. Unlike some of its rivals, though, Wheel Hero doesn't give you trim levels that can tell you the right tire size; if you don't have that information committed to memory, be prepared to go out to your car and take a look.
Test cases: excellent selection for both Cybertruck and Corolla
How did this tire store do on the two vehicles we used in our comparison? We're happy to say that for both the 2021 Toyota Corolla LE and the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck AWD, there were tons of options. On the Cybertruck, we were given 55 different tires guaranteed to fit, from the $199/tire IronMan All Country AT2 to the $474.99/tire BFGoodrich HD-Terrain T/A KT. For the Corolla, Wheel Hero had 61 options, from $69.97/tire for the Prinx HiCity HH2 to $221.25/tire for the Bridgestone Turanza Quietttrack.
More for DIY-comfortable car experts
This definitely feels like a tire store for people who know their way around cars. There aren't a lot of explanations of features or details on the benefits of any of the tires they sell. If you aren't as familiar with your car's tires, this may not be the most comfortable place to shop. And, from what we could tell, unless you order a wheels-and-tires package, there's no installation help offered through Wheel Hero.
Pay extra if you want shipping insurance or hazard protection
When you get to the checkout, you'll be offered a wheels package if you haven't already selected one; otherwise, just add the tires to your cart and proceed. At that point, you'll also find out that you'll have to pay an extra $20 if you want "shipping insurance” to protect your order against transit damage. Shouldn't they be covering that anyway? If your tires get lost or damaged, Wheel Hero will handle the claim and send a replacement right away, but only if you've paid that $20. You'll also be offered a $60 Road Hazard Warranty package; we recommend reading the terms and conditions to see if that's right for you.
1 financing option
Need help with financing? Wheel Hero lets you apply through Affirm if you're trying not to add your tires to your credit card, or if you'd rather not pay with PayPal or AmazonPay. You'll see that link during checkout.
Good reputation with the BBB
Wheel Hero has earned an "A+” rating from the Better Business Bureau. There were just 12 complaints filed with the BBB against this tire store in the last year, and 55 total over the last three years. On ShopperApproved, the company earned over 12,000 5-star reviews - but before you get too impressed, most of those seem to come from people who visited the website, not necessarily ones who made a purchase or who can speak from experience about how the tires performed after installation.
Customers aren't huge fans
That's important, because some of the feedback we found elsewhere - from Wheel Hero customers who actually ordered tires here - was pretty negative. One review said that they received used tires (which was confirmed by two independent local tire shops), another pointed out that Wheel Hero charges the customer for return shipping on warranty claims, and a third said they were sent an "open box” wheel that was damaged and were refused a full refund.
Not a tire store we recommend
Wheel Hero is missing a lot of the benefits we'd like to see - ones that are offered by many of the tire stores on our list. You'll get no help with installation, no post-purchase maintenance benefits (like free rotations and balancing) that we could find, and not a lot of information on the tires themselves. And, even if you're really comfortable with the DIY approach, customer feedback says you might not even get the new tires you paid for. All of this earns Wheel Hero a less-than-heroic rating from us.
Mavis Tire has been selling tires since 1949, currently with 1,400 locations in 26 states. They offer a bunch of services at those locations, from oil changes and brake service to state car inspections and wheel alignments. Should you buy your tires here? Read on and decide for yourself.
Easy to find the right tires
You've got four ways to shop for tires on the Mavis website (which we love): tire size, brand, vehicle, or license plate. That last option is great for those of us who don't necessarily know the trim level or tire size of our gets-us-there everyday ride, so thanks to Mavis for that.
Test case: disappointing selection for Corolla
We looked up tires for a 2021 Toyota Corolla LE and a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck at each store on our list, as a fair comparison across all of them. How did Mavis do? Honestly, we were disappointed: for the Corolla, which is the most easy-peasy, options-rich vehicle for most retailers, Mavis only offered us three results. Those were the Pirelli Cinturato P7 for $191.99/tire, the Bridgestone Driveguard Plus for $205.99/tire, and the Continental ProContact for $222/tire - all of which were considerably more expensive than most of our tire choices elsewhere, but at least Mavis offers a low-price guarantee you could take advantage of. Maybe the limited options were because we indicated our preferred shop before moving forward, but that shouldn't stop Mavis from providing alternatives that might be offered somewhere else in the network. And, it certainly didn't live up to the "Mavis Difference” of offering the "largest selection of tires for any vehicle”.
Test case: nothing for the Cybertruck
And that Cybertruck? We appreciated that Mavis correctly identified the two different tire sizes that would fit, both the OEM and the second option, and even showed us where to look on the tire if we needed to double-check the size. Unfortunately, this tire store came up empty with no results for the Tesla truck.
Information isn't the most helpful
The tire descriptions at Mavis are... interesting. Instead of giving you a graphic that displays the average tread life or stopping distance in dry or wet conditions, this tire store tells you how often it was installed for some brands, the average miles on the tires it was replacing, and the most common time of year it was purchased. Not sure that's super relevant, but at least you can scroll down and see any available customer reviews.
Watch out for extra charges
You're not going to be super-excited when you get to the checkout here: Mavis charges extra to balance your tires during installation, while most rivals include that in the price. On the Pirelli tires we quoted for the Toyota Corolla, balancing was an extra $79.96 and installation was $40. The only perk we noticed is the ability to schedule other services during our tire installation appointment, like an oil change or a brake check.
Might be able to buy road hazard protection
The one bright side we discovered after digging into the warranty section of the Mavis Tire website is that there's a road hazard limited warranty option. We didn't see it offered during checkout, and we assume it's an add-on cost, but at least it's something you can ask about at your local shop.
Poor reputation with the BBB
When we looked up Mavis Tire's reputation with the Better Business Bureau, it wasn't a good sign to see a "D-” rating. That was for the tire store's failure to respond to 6 complaints and to resolve 11 others. That's not so bad, but there were also more than 1,100 complaints filed with the BBB in the last three years. And, beyond that, over 700 people came to the BBB to leave a review (instead of a complaint), and those only averaged out to 2 out of 5 stars.
Look for your local store's ratings
Then again, on Trustpilot, Mavis had an excellent average of 4.7 stars out of 5 that spanned more than 26,000 reviews. What we can say is this: your feelings about Mavis will likely depend mostly on your experience in the shop and not much on your online shopping. If you can check out the reviews for your local Mavis (like on Yelp or Google reviews, in addition to the reviews shown for that location on the Mavis website), it might go a long way to tell you if it's a good idea to get your tires here.
Last place tire store
We're just not impressed by Mavis Tire. The selection is really lackluster compared with literally every other tire store on our list, the pricing isn't competitive, and customer feedback is too mixed to give us a lot of confidence here. Plus, with the company only available in 26 states, almost half of the nation won't even be able to buy tires from Mavis. This is our least-favorite option among tire stores.
Look at your current tires to gather important information. You'll find the tire size on the sidewall, which includes a series of numbers and letters (such as 225/65R17). This tells you the tire width, aspect ratio, construction type, and rim diameter. Make sure the new tires match these specifications unless you're making a deliberate change for a specific reason.
Use online resources to research tire brands, types, and models. Many websites offer tools where you can input your vehicle's make, model, and year to get tire recommendations. Read customer reviews and professional ratings to get a sense of how different tires perform in areas like traction, handling, comfort, and durability.
Feeling overwhelmed? We've got a shortcut for you: just shop for your tires online. Most of today's popular tire stores can walk you through all of those things we just mentioned. Enter your make, model, and year (or, for some online stores, just your license plate or VIN), and you're good to go. You'll usually be able to see the research those retailers have done and benefit from their expertise, along with reviews from other car owners, in order to make your choice.
Once you've chosen your tires, the next step is to arrange for installation. If you're an automotive pro and you want to install the tires yourself, you do you (just make sure the store allows for that; some tire shops require professional installation in order to make a purchase). But, if you'd rather let an actual pro do the dirty work, check the options on offer. Usually, the tires will be shipped directly to the installer you indicate, and you can schedule an appointment to have them mounted and balanced on your vehicle. Some online stores even offer mobile installation services where a technician comes to your location to install them.
Still not sure which tire store to use? No worries. Here are a few criteria that can narrow down the options:
