For rock-bottom pricing on your laser printer's toner cartridges, shop at YB Toner. It's still a little new on the market, so it doesn't have a ton of feedback, but on cost alone it's a winner. For every printer model we checked out, there were lots of options (in both sets and single cartridges), shipping is free on orders over $30, and you're protected by a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 2-year product warranty on all toner. We're excited to see YB Toner's reputation continue to grow because their prices are fantastic.

On the Ink 4 Less website

Ink 4 Less, a pioneer in the online-only toner cartridges retail business since 1999, offers a selection of OEM, remanufactured, and compatible cartridges, setting it apart from many other stores we reviewed. However, the inventory in all of these categories is somewhat narrow, potentially limiting your savings. But, with a solid warranty and plenty of savings offered through the company's social media channels, Ink 4 Less ranks above average for buying toner cartridges.

At first glance, 1 Ink might not seem like they've got a lot going for them: there are a few typos on the website, and even the BBB says they don't have enough info to give the business a rating. Fortunately, customer feedback elsewhere is abundant and almost always positive, praising the selection, pricing, and service here. If you find your toner cartridges in stock and you like the price, don't hesitate to buy from 1 Ink - but do your research and make sure that there isn't a better deal somewhere else first.

On the Ink E-Sale website

Ink E-Sale brags about being the go-to, long-term toner supplier for numerous large companies and claims that their compatible cartridges rank as the most popular brand in North America. However, we have reservations about this retailer, stemming partially from their more limited-than-average selection and the absence of ample customer feedback. While you might appreciate the competitive pricing for the toner cartridges compatible with your printer, getting assistance from Ink E-Sale's support team might prove challenging. For these reasons, we don't recommend this retailer for your next toner cartridge purchase.

Ink Plus Toner was once a reliable destination for purchasing toner cartridges: you'll find numerous positive reviews from customers... but they date back several years. There's nothing about this retailer to give you any indication that they're still in business, with links to nowhere and dead social media accounts on their website. It's not worth trying to purchase your toner cartridges here, even if some of them are competitively priced.

4 Inkjets, established in 1999 and based in California, offers a variety of cartridges, including OEM, remanufactured, and compatible options for both inkjet and laser printers. They provide a user-friendly search process to find cartridges for specific printer models. While they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and free shipping on orders over $50, their reputation has taken a hit lately, with an "F" rating from the BBB and low scores from shopper reviews. Many customers reported issues with delayed refunds, late deliveries, and a host of negative experiences, making 4 Inkjets a retailer we can't recommend for buying toner cartridges.

Established in 2007 in a NYC basement, E-Z Ink provides replacement and compatible toner cartridges with free shipping on all orders and a 100% satisfaction guarantee within 1-2 years of purchase. Unfortunately, their inventory for popular printers is limited, and their labeling can be confusing. When you look into E-Z Ink's reputation, you'll find very little, but what's out there isn't very good overall. This all contributes to our low ranking for E-Z Ink as a place to buy toner cartridges.

Where Can You Find the Best Prices on Toner Cartridges?

There are few things more frustrating than when you go to print something and are presented with the message "toner cartridge out of ink". If you're lucky, you've got one available that you can swap in right away. But one way or the other you're going to have to buy a toner cartridge to keep on printing.

What they don't tell you when you buy a printer, is that toner cartridges are expensive. That's why there's been a surge in popularity for buying toner cartridges online. And there are a number of reasons for this, beyond just the price savings that you'll enjoy compared with buying in a traditional store.

One significant reason why people are buying toner cartridges online is the convenience it offers. Instead of having to drive and visit a physical store, you can now easily browse through a number of online sites from the comfort of your home. This is especially appealing to busy families and professionals who may not have the time to visit a store in person.

Another reason for the growing popularity of online toner cartridge purchases is the wide selection available. Online retailers often have a vast inventory of different brands and models, which let you find the exact cartridge you need for your specific printer. This extensive variety helps you make informed decisions based on your printer requirements, ensuring compatibility and functionality.

Before you can snag the best deal the next time your laser printer gives you that annoying "Toner Low" warning, you should understand a little bit about the kinds of cartridges on offer.

Toner cartridges are available in three primary categories: OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), remanufactured, and compatible. OEM cartridges, produced by brands like Canon or HP, are the priciest but can be more affordable when purchased online compared to local stores.

Remanufactured cartridges are refilled OEM products that fit laser printers perfectly at a lower cost than new cartridges. Most online retailers offer pre-filled remanufactured cartridges, though some may provide kits for self-filling.

Compatible toner cartridges, produced by third-party companies, guarantee the same fit and print quality as OEM cartridges after rigorous testing. These cartridges are often the most cost-effective, but you need to make sure the retailer offers a quality guarantee to avoid potential printer damage. It's also smart to make sure you won't void your laser printer's warranty by using non-OEM toner cartridges. And, pay attention to whether the cartridge comes with or without a chip: you may be expected to remove the chip from your current toner cartridge and insert it in the new, generic model.

Choosing to buy any of these options online could lead to savings between 30-70% over the manufacturer's suggested retail price (yes, even on the OEM toner cartridges). Many online retailers provide promotional discounts, free shipping on qualifying purchases, and bulk discounts, making it an even smarter choice.

So, where should you go to stock up on your toner cartridges? When deciding where to place your order, consider the following:

The experts at Top Consumer Reviews have researched and ranked today's most popular online retailers of toner cartridges, to make it easy-peasy to keep your laser printer up and running. Why not stock up if you find a great deal? No more frantic cries of "We're out of toner!"

Toner Cartridge FAQ

What's the difference between toner and ink cartridges?
Toner cartridges are used in laser printers and contain a fine powder, while ink cartridges are used in inkjet printers and contain liquid ink. Toner is fused onto paper using heat, resulting in faster and more durable prints.
OEM? Remanufactured? Compatible? What's the difference?
Great question! OEM cartridges are brand-new out of the package, made by the company who made your printer. Toner cartridges designated as "remanufactured" are essentially refilled OEM cartridges: so, not brand-new, but still originally made by your printer company. Compatible cartridges are made by a third-party manufacturer, designed to be, well, compatible with your printer.
Can I refill my toner cartridge at home?
Some toner cartridges are refillable, but it requires careful handling and following instructions to avoid damaging the printer. Refillable options can be a more environmentally-friendly and cost-effective choice in the long run.
Do remanufactured toner cartridges affect print quality?
Remanufactured toner cartridges, refilled versions of OEM products, can offer solid print quality at a lower cost. However, it's essential to purchase from reputable retailers to minimize the risk of performance issues.
Are compatible toner cartridges as good as OEM ones?
Compatible toner cartridges, produced by third-party companies, can offer comparable print quality to OEM cartridges after rigorous testing. However, it's crucial to choose a reputable retailer to avoid potential compatibility issues. You may also be expected to swap the chip in your existing cartridge over to the compatible one you buy; pay attention to the product description, which will often say "with chip" or "no chip".
How do I check the compatibility of a toner cartridge with my printer?
This is especially important if you're buying a "compatible" cartridge from an online retailer! To ensure compatibility in general, check your printer manual or the manufacturer's website for the specific toner cartridge model recommended for your printer. Make sure that part number lines up with what's on the retailer's description.
Why should I buy toner cartridges online?
That's an easy one: because you want to save money and time! Online toner retailers can do both, making it so that you never have to hear that panicked cry of "The printer is out of toner!" at the office (or at home) again. You'll save enough money that you can probably afford to stock up.
How much can I save by choosing compatible or remanufactured toner cartridges?
Opting for compatible or remanufactured toner cartridges can lead to savings between 30-70% compared to OEM prices. Just make sure you're not voiding your laser printer's warranty by choosing non-OEM cartridges!
