Established in 1970, Nautilus has been a trailblazer in the fitness industry, introducing innovative design that transformed circuit training equipment. Interestingly, it's a sister company of BowFlex, another treadmill retailer in our review.
Limited optioons
Although Nautilus shares some of the same technology with Bowflex, they suffer one drawback: the options at Nautilus are much more limited. Nautilus currently offers only two treadmill models, and neither incorporates the modern convenience of touchscreen technology, which may give the impression of being somewhat behind the times in comparison to other contemporary fitness brands.
Equipment Overview:
Basic model: T616
As there are only two treadmill models available at Nautilus, it was pretty easy to find the basic model. The T616 costs $1,149 and offers an array of technological benefits. These include Bluetooth for smart devices and heart rate monitors along with a chest strap included for accurate heart rate monitoring during workouts. The treadmill is also compatible with the Explore the World app, allowing you to use virtual locations during your workouts. The T616 has a speed range from 0 to 12 mph and a motorized incline ranging from 0% to 15%. The incorporation of StrikeZone deck cushioning adds a layer of joint support. Additional features include a 3-speed fan for added comfort and a USB media charging port for your workout devices.
Top-tier model: T618
The top-tier model available from Nautilus is the T618 treadmill. This machine costs $1,499; however, there aren't a lot of bonuses or add-ons that justify the price increase. For example, this treadmill model includes the same Bluetooth capability, the same heart rate monitors, and the same Explore the World app. It offers the same speed range from 0 to 12 mph and the same motorized incline ranging from 0% to 15%. Differences include:
But, as you can see, none of this is a huge difference over the previously-described treadmill model.
Pay for shipping twice if you need to return
Shipping isn't free from Nautilus. Most of the treadmills cost a standard $99 to ship, and if you make any returns this fee isn't refundable. Plus, you'll have to pay for return shipping and restocking as well. So, while there doesn't appear to be a deadline for returns based on our research, you will be on the hook for shipping twice, which could be a barrier for some customers.
1-star average is a red flag
Unfortunately, Nautilus' reputation is a little questionable. Like its sister site, BowFlex, Nautilus doesn't have a page on the Better Business Bureau. And, when we researched its reputation on third-party review sites, feedback for Nautilus was pretty scarce. We found a handful of reviews on Consumer Affairs which showed that the brand only has a 1-star rating out of 5. The complaints include orders needing refunds because the treadmill never arrived, issues contacting customer service for warranty-related concerns, and problems with Bluetooth connectivity. Given that there really isn't a single positive review for Nautilus, we're deeply concerned about the brand as a whole.
Brand falls to the bottom of the pack
Customers have rated Nautilus just 1 star on average and we have to agree. While the prices aren't super expensive, there's really nothing special about Nautilus' treadmills compared with other brands in our review. Further, with no rating from the BBB and extremely low ratings on third-party review sites, we just can't recommend Nautilus. If you're looking for a reliable place to shop for your treadmill, this brand won't be it.
With a rising interest in health and fitness, treadmills have become very popular in recent years. A treadmill is a traditional but reliable piece of equipment, offering a way to bring the jogging track (or your favorite uphill hikes) into your personal home gym. Putting in even a half-hour on a treadmill can promote heart health and aid in weight management.
Treadmills allow you to control the intensity of your workout, adjusting speed and incline according to your fitness level. The convenience of having a treadmill at home eliminates weather constraints or time limitations, making it easier to maintain a consistent exercise routine right in the comfort of your home. And buying a treadmill online has become easier than ever before.
Instead of driving to different exercise equipment stores, and listening to various sales pitches, you can shop right from the comfort of you own home. You can explore a wide variety of brands, models, and pricepoints. And many companies even offer free shipping, right to your door.
Treadmills are a popular choice for many due to their advantages. Treadmills offer a predictable and cushioned surface, reducing the impact on joints. So, for joggers looking for an option that's lower-impact than running outside or on a track, treadmills can create a perfect solution. The machines offer a range of fitness levels, from walking for beginners to high-intensity sprints for advanced workouts. Whether you're getting started on your home gym journey or you're a seasoned athlete, a treadmill is a great addition to your workout routine.
As you explore various treadmill brands, you'll discover a wide array of options on the market. Modern treadmills come equipped with features like built-in screens for virtual classes, fitness app connectivity, and even virtual jogging tracks like mountainscapes that make it feel more realistic for runners who prefer the challenges of outdoor exercise. Even if you've been to the gym in the last few years, you may be impressed with some of the major technological improvements in today's treadmills.
Today, treadmills are more than just a simple cardio tool. They can serve as your personal fitness cheerleader, providing stats to track your progress and celebrate fitness milestones. Whether you pick one with a touchscreen or just the usual LCD stat trackers, you can rest assured that you'll get a full rundown of your fitness and performance whenever you need it.
Choosing the right treadmill can be daunting with the number of treadmill brands available. Some of the models and brands look so similar you might be asking: "What's the difference?” Don't worry. To help you navigate the choices and find the perfect fit, we've sifted through the best options and put together a checklist to help you narrow your search.
