Shutterfly is an American e-commerce company that specializes in custom designs, headquartered in Redwood City, California. They have become a go-to online destination for people to personalize products and prints. Want a calendar with all your family's photos on it? How about a puzzle with your dog's face on it? They have hundreds of unique products and gifts that you can completely make your own.

Solid selection

Included in Shutterfly's huge inventory are over 350 wedding invitation designs. You can filter by style, theme, featured, size, card format, design color, designer, trim options, number of photos, photo orientation, foil color, glitter color, price, or paper type. You'll probably want to slim down your options at least a bit because it would take a while to browse through all the choices here.

Starting at $0.69

When we sorted the price of Shutterfly's wedding invitations from low to high, we discovered some options starting as low as just $0.69. They aren't the most vibrant and exciting designs, but they're cheap. When you select an invitation and the quantity you want to print, you'll see the cost per invitation. You'll need to order around 300 to get the lowest listed price. We were offered 40% off of all wedding items through Shutterfly if we signed up for their emails, so this may be worth doing to bring your overall cost down, especially if you're going for one of the more "expensive” designs (as much as $2.70 for a tri-fold).

Free shipping over $79

There's a shipping page on Shutterfly's website that lays out all the methods they use for delivery, the production and delivery time, and what to expect. Basic economy is 6-10 days and is often free with qualifying purchases (orders over $79). Standard shipping takes 5-7 business days, and the fastest option is super rush shipping that happens in 1-2 business days, although there is limited availability for this option. When you go to checkout, you can select your preferred shipping option.

Quick and efficient personalization

Shutterfly does a good job of letting customers make their templates their own. When you choose a design, you can then choose the foil color, theme color, trim (round, square, bracket, ticket, scallop), paper type, and format. To help you get started, you're given a "suggestion” box where you can enter the names of the couple, event date, times, and address. This information will be placed on the template in their proper places. You can't change the font, sizes, or even drag around the text boxes. Next, you can choose to customize your envelope (may come with added costs), and input the address information of your guests (an extra $0.21 per envelope). For $0.99 per invite, Shutterfly will even mail your cards for you.

Happiness guarantee

The 100% happiness guarantee from Shutterfly is actually a little vague. They say that their customers' satisfaction means everything to them and they won't stop working until they are 100% happy. But what does that mean exactly? From everything we found, it seems like if they make an error, they'll work to fix it until it's correct. This is similar to the guarantee provided by many other print companies. We can assume, though, that if an error is made in the information given or a typo is submitted to printing, Shutterfly won't take responsibility for it.

Declining reputation

For as popular as Shutterfly is, we were really surprised to see that they aren't rated by the Better Business Bureau. On the flip side, they have plenty of third-party customer reviews, and, spoiler alert: they aren't good. People complain that their quality has gone downhill, it's difficult to communicate about the printing and delivery process, orders sometimes never arrive, and so much more. The only positive things we really found were some sparse customer reviews on individual invitations, but these weren't very helpful for us.

Better options elsewhere

Shutterfly's customer reviews have been going downhill for a while. We trust that there are plenty of people who also have good experiences with this company, which is why they are so popular. However, it does seem that their customer service has gone downhill lately. We like that they have a big selection of wedding invitations, but so do many other companies, so we recommend checking there first before committing to Shutterfly.
