Wigs have been an integral part of human culture for centuries, serving a variety of purposes ranging from fashion to medical needs. In recent years, wigs have gained popularity and become more accessible to a broader audience.
Why are you shopping for a wig? Most people think of hair loss and other medical reasons for wearing one. You could be looking to regain some self-esteem after undergoing chemotherapy or discovering that you suffer from alopecia. You're not alone. Millions of people every year buy a wig exactly for this reason, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to look a certain way.
Wednesday, December 11th
Wigs would love to be the ultimate destination for all your wig needs. With over 25 years of making wig dreams come true, this Dallas-based company knows a thing or two about delivering top-notch products. From human hair wigs to toppers, extensions, and accessories, Wigs has got it all. And guess what? They even own Wig Outlet and Extensions - talk about wig experts.
Expert help in choosing your wig
Wigs wants to make sure your wig shopping experience is as smooth as can be. They've got tons of buying guides to lead you on your way, step-by-step. Want to know how to rock that wig with style and finesse? They've got how-to videos for that too. Whether you're a pro or a newbie, Wigs is here to make sure you get it right. And if that's still not enough, the Wigs team encourages you to reach out to their experts Monday through Friday through their toll-free number.
Easy-to-shop inventory
When you visit this wig store, you'll discover over 1,100 wigs waiting just for you, in all shapes and sizes (including two dozen options for men and 18 for kids). Human hair wigs? Check. Synthetics and human/synthetic blends? Double check. This is also one of the easiest-to-shop wig stores in our review, with numerous filters (like texture, cap design or size, density, and so on) that save you the time of having to browse through every single option in the inventory.
Check out what other wig-wearers have to say
Another big plus of shopping at Wigs are the customer reviews on individual hairpieces. Many competitors have thousands of wigs and no user feedback, but this wig superstore has ratings on almost every single one they sell. For example, the Ignite Synthetic Lace Front Wig by Jon Renau had almost 550 reviews at the time of this evaluation (averaging an impressive average of 4.5/5 stars) and with plenty of helpful comments and user-submitted photos. No trickery here.
Price matching available
Prices range from a budget-friendly $22.99 to a hair-raising $4,550+ for the creme de la creme of wigs. But here's the best part: if you find a wig they carry at a lower price with a rival store, Wigs will wave their magic wand and match that price.
30-day returns, no restocking fees
How about returns? Wigs gives you a generous 30 days to send your wig back, with no restocking fees to ruin your day. There aren't any return shipping fees either, but you're welcome to use their prepaid shipping label (and have $10.95 deducted from your refund).
Best all-around choice for among wig stores
Wigs has earned its thousands of five-star customer ratings and proven its worth to wig enthusiasts worldwide. With their excellent selection, generous and customer-forward policies (like price matching and 30-day returns with no restocking fees), and wallet-friendly prices, Wigs is the real deal. Don't miss this chance to dazzle in the perfect wig - head over to Wigs and let the fun begin.
Established in 2018, Wig Outlet is proudly owned by the appropriately-named parent company Wigs (our #1 wig store in our review, by the way), ensuring customers have access to top-quality brands like Jon Renau, Ellen Willie, Luxhair, Raquel Welch, and many more - at discounts of 30-70% off retail prices. Who doesn't love a good deal?!
4 kinds of discounted wigs
What sets Wig Outlet apart is its commitment to offering customers unbeatable value through their discounted wig selection. Each item falls into one of four categories: Overstock, featuring surplus items from manufacturers or their main Wigs website itself; Discontinued, offering new products or colors no longer produced by manufacturers; Open Box, which may have slight imperfections but have undergone Wig Outlet's stringent quality control process and comes backed by their guarantee; and Closeout/Clearance, showcasing items popular in previous years that are ready to be cleared from their inventory.
1,000+ wigs from $20 to $3,000
The variety of wigs available at Wig Outlet seems endless, catering to everyone regardless of age or gender. Customers can conveniently shop the inventory of more than 1,000 hairpieces by wig fiber, color, hairstyle, length, and more. The best part? Every single wig is on sale, allowing you to save hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars compared to other retailers. Whether you seek the elegance of human hair wigs or the versatility of synthetic ones, Wig Outlet's prices are a dream, with human hair wigs typically ranging from $40 to $3,000, and synthetic wigs priced between $20 and $500.
Check out the angles
At the time of this review, Wig Outlet's best-selling hairpiece was the Voltage synthetic, priced at $93.99 and with nearly 200 customer ratings. Like every other option sold here, this wig comes with plenty of details, color options, and photo angles. And don't forget the videos and the customer-submitted photos too.
30-day returns
What if you get a wig you don't like? Don't stress. Wig Outlet gives you 30 days from the date your wig was delivered to make a return. There are no restocking fees deducted from your refund, either. Just be aware that any wigs that were marked as "discontinued” or "final” sale will be ineligible for a return and refund, and the same goes for any wigs that you've damaged, worn, or altered in any way.
Low price, high quality
Sometimes when you think "outlet”, you picture poor quality and bad customer service - but that's definitely not the case here. Over 5,000 customers have given their Wig Outlet experience a five-star rating, praising the fit and comfort of the wigs, the generosity of the return policy (especially the lack of a restocking fee), and the quick response to customer questions.
Best wig shop if you're on a budget
The only thing stopping Wig Outlet from earning our top spot is the fact that it IS an outlet store - so if you're looking for the most cutting-edge, on-trend hairpieces around, you're not as likely to find it here (fortunately, Wig Outlet's sister store, our highest-rated wig shop, has you covered). Other than that, this is the perfect place to shop if you want a high-quality wig that's backed by an excellent return policy and fantastic customer support - and at a fraction of the price you'd pay elsewhere.
As the creator of the original and only authentic "Headcovers," this company pioneered the first line of fashionable hats and wigs for chemo patients over 23 years ago. It was founded by Carol Galland, a breast cancer survivor, and her daughter, Danielle. This wig store was the first online retailer dedicated to head covering options during cancer treatments, and their original designs have set the standard. Their mission is to provide comfort through compassionate service, enlighten customers with information, and empower them to feel like themselves, even with hair loss stemming from cancer, alopecia, or any other cause.
Easy to find the wigs you want
You'll have about 1,000 wigs to consider when you shop at Headcovers. While you could browse all of them outright - the product images make it easy to see what colors are available, how many shoppers have rated it, and how much you'll pay below the original retail price - it'll be a lot easier if you use the filters to sift through the options. Those include wig type, length, material, texture, cap type, wig style, size, coverage, brand, color family, and price. So, whatever characteristics matter most to you, there's probably a filter to match.
Making hat hair look good
One of the most popular wigs sold by Headcovers isn't actually a wig at all. The Cardani Classic Bob Baseball Hat with Hair is the perfect choice when it's just too hot for a traditional hairpiece and you want to rock a casual look: throw on your cap and head out the door with a cute bob haircut in any one of over two dozen color choices. This hat-and-hair combo earned a 4.8 average rating, and the customer reviews with photos show lots of ladies looking fun and feminine, loving their no-effort look. And did we mention that it's only $95?
Wide selection of wig styles
But yes, you also have access to all types of traditional wigs here, both synthetic and human hair. Prices range from $30 to $4,488, and if your order is over $75, you may qualify for free shipping.
Customers feel loved and supported here
Headcovers has the absolute best reputation of any wig store on our list. Not only did they earn a perfect "A+” and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, but this shop also has gotten over 150,000 (yes, you read that right) five-star reviews from customers who can't say enough good things about the experience of getting a wig here. People sing the praises of Headcovers for offering high-quality hairpieces and other head coverings, and also for the way their customer service team infuses every interaction with kindness and compassion. More than one shopper mentioned getting a note of support with one of their packages, a magnet with an inspirational message, and so on. If you're shopping for a wig for reasons that have you feeling a little (or a lot) sad, this is a company that will see you as more than just another person placing an order, and we love that.
Not so generous when it comes to returns
However, Headcovers isn't quite as generous as other wig stores when it comes to returns and exchanges. If you're buying a Headcovers-branded item or a Cardani product (like that baseball cap), you've got a very generous 30-day window to get a refund or 90 days to make an exchange. Unfortunately, all other wigs only have a 5-day window to request an RMA, and your return package must be postmarked within 3 days of that RMA's date. Unless you request a store credit, you should expect a restocking fee of $10 or 20%, whichever is greater. That's a little disappointing compared with our top wig shops that don't charge restocking fees and that give you 30 days to make a return - often on the same wig brands carried by Headcovers. In other words, that's the store's policy and not regulated by the manufacturer.
No wigs for men or kids
The only other reason Headcovers doesn't earn a perfect score from us is the fact that there are seemingly no options for men or children, and that much of their focus seems to be on women facing hair loss due to cancer. They certainly don't exclude other types of hair loss, but the site might not feel as suitable if you're shopping for a wig strictly for fashion purposes either.
A wig store we recommend
Headcovers is really easy to recommend as a wig store. You'll find plenty of wigs to choose from (if you're a woman, that is), compassionate customer service, and lots of encouragement if you're wig shopping due to hair loss. Even the downsides we found here are really slight, and who can argue with thousands and thousands of customers who give this wig store a perfect score? Not us. Put Headcovers on your list of wig shops to consider the next time you need a new hairpiece.
For more than 20 years, California-based Best Wig Outlet has been offering wigs, hair extensions, hair pieces, wiglets, and costume wigs at discounts of up to 85% off the regular retail price. You'll find options from well-known brands like Jon Renau, Envy by Alan Eaton, Estetica, Noriko, and more.
Store is hassle-free to shop
Best Wig Outlet is super-easy to shop, whether you're looking for a wig for a man, woman, or child. You can either choose one of those categories or go to the general Wigs page and use filters to sort through the options. We appreciate that it let us shop by cap size, hair type, wig length, texture, construction, and hair style, in addition to all of the brands in the inventory. If you've got a specific idea of the perfect wig, Best Wig Outlet makes it a breeze to only see products that match.
Prices and inventory are competitive
Prices here definitely run the gamut. On the low end, you'll pay under $20 for a costume wig or for a few basic synthetic styles. On the other end of the spectrum, expect to pay $4,000+ for Best Wig Outlet's most dramatic Blake-Lite Remy Human Hair Wigs by Jon Renau. Whatever you've got in mind style- or budget-wise, you'll have options here. And, as long as your order is over $150, you'll get free shipping.
No shortage of info on each wig
When you've selected a wig you like, you'll be able to see plenty of information, including multiple photo angles to see how it looks from the front, side, and back. Color choices are readily available, as well as a description that includes hair length in different places (bangs, sides, crown, nape) and how much the wig weighs.
Get live help from customer support
One way Best Wig Outlet stands out above some of the wig shops we reviewed is their customer service: you can reach their experts from 8A-5P (Pacific Time) Monday through Friday at their toll-free number, or try using the live chat if you need instant answers. Their team is happy to make recommendations if you need some guidance for wig style or fit. You can also use the Buyer's Handbook link at the bottom of the site if you'd rather take a more DIY approach, for everything from styling tips to how-tos for choosing the right wig for your needs.
Strict when it comes to returns
How about returns? The policy at Best Wig Outlet is a little strict: you've only got 7 days from the date you receive your order to request a Return Merchandise Authorization, and your return has to be in the original packaging postmarked within 5 days of getting the RMA. Plus, the fine print says that you can't even have tried on your wig if you want it to be refundable. And, if the box is damaged, the return is late, or any of the original packaging is missing, you'll be charged a fee of up to 75% of the purchase price. Not exactly the most customer-friendly wig store we've ever seen.
Mostly positive reviews
Best Wig Outlet's reputation is a little mixed. On the one hand, the Better Business Bureau gives this wig store an "A+” rating, and there were only four complaints filed there over the last three years. And, on several third-party sites, we found thousands of five-star reviews for this retailer, with happy customers saying that the wigs looked and fit exactly like they'd hoped. Of course, no wig shop is ever going to hit the mark 100% of the time, and some customers complained that what they got isn't what they were expecting: it didn't fit as well as other retailers' wigs did in the same size, and we spotted frequent mentions of not being able to get a refund.
Good option for wig-shopping
Overall, this store is a solid choice for buying a wig. Best Wig Outlet offers lots of help to both experienced and novice wig-shoppers, their prices are on par with rival retailers, and their selection is ample and easy to shop. We're not completely thrilled with this store's somewhat stingy return policy (and the corresponding shopper complaints), but that shouldn't stop you from giving Best Wig Outlet a try if you find the hairpiece you want in their inventory.
Fortune, located in Brooklyn, New York, has been bringing the magic of human hair wigs, toppers, integrations, extensions, and accessories to wig enthusiasts since 1998. As a family-run business, Fortune aims to revolutionize wig shopping with a seamless online experience. Their wigs are crafted from exquisite Remy hair sourced from a special region on the North-Eastern border of China, ensuring top-notch quality.
Only 3 human-hair wigs to consider, plus extensions and toppers
You're not going to have a hard time shopping the wig inventory here - because it's limited to just three wig styles, about a dozen extensions, and a small number of toppers. With respect strictly to wigs, you can choose the Mazali Gold French Silk Top, Lace Top, or Band Fall, with starting prices ranging from $1,100 to $1,350 respectively. All you have to do is choose your length (from 12” to 20”), preferred color, and size.
Get any help you need
Not sure on any of those details? No problem. Fortune helpful gives you tools right there to help you get the perfect color, length, or overall wig size. Because this wig specialist is located in New York (with an office in New Jersey too), you can also reach out via toll-free number and ask any questions you have prior to making your purchase. You won't find that with many rival wig stores on our list.
30-day satisfaction guarantee
Fortune gives you a full 30 days to decide if you want to return your wig. They call it their "We're Not Happy Till You Are” policy, and we're here for that. But, keep in mind that your wig or extension has to be in unused condition: you can't have it styled, cut, or altered in any way if you want to qualify for a refund.
Wigs last up to 3 years
But, let's say you absolutely love your Fortune wig. How long will it last? The longevity of these wigs can reach up to three years, depending on factors like wear frequency, sun exposure, and proper care. Taking good care of your wig and extensions is vital, so be sure to check out their tips for buying, washing, and brushing to maintain their beauty.
In-house repair shop
And, if you happen to have a little mishap, not to worry: this is the only wig store in our review that also has a custom repair shop. Simply upload pictures and/or videos of the damage and briefly describe the repair, and Fortune's experts will respond with a price estimate for the fix.
Excellent reputation
As for their reputation, Fortune doesn't have a Better Business Bureau rating, but online customers have shared their experiences. Most are thrilled with this wig store's natural-looking wigs, comfortable wear, and delightful customer service. And, to see for yourself, just look at the user-posted photos on the wigs and hair extensions you're considering: we love seeing how the wigs get styled and personalized, and it's amazing how natural they look. We couldn't believe they were actually wigs and not each woman's own hair.
Limited selection but exceptional quality and service
The only reason we've moved Fortune down a bit in our rankings is because of the overall lack of inventory: you've got to have a really particular wig in mind (namely, at least 12” long, 100% human hair, and a budget over $1,000) in order for Fortune to be the right fit for you, and that's going to leave a lot of shoppers out of luck here. On the other hand, if that's exactly the type of wig you want, Fortune is going to exceed your expectations.
Beauty Trends has been in the wig business for more than three decades, offering not only wigs but also hairpieces, makeup, shampoo/conditioner, combs and brushes, and other accessories. They have a somewhat small collection of over 200 wigs primarily for women, though there are a very small number of wigs for men as well.
No problem shopping here
Navigating the Beauty Trends website is a breeze, and you can easily find the wig you're looking for along with all the necessary details before making a purchase. Narrow down your options by color group, size (including some that would be suitable for children), fiber (synthetic or human hair), texture, price range, or preferred brands. There are about 18 brands in the Beauty Trends inventory, including well-known names like Noriko and Rene of Paris.
Lots of details, not many customer reviews
The product listings feature pictures of real people wearing the wigs, providing a better idea of how they will look. While most Beauty Trends wigs don't have reviews yet, customers can post their opinions and we hope to see more shopper feedback on individual wigs here in the future. Still, even without customer comments, it's easy to get all of the information you could possibly need: the wigs' descriptions are extensive, and you'll even have all of the lengths at the wigs' crown, side, nape, and bangs.
Wigs are lower-priced than at rival stores
Prices here tend to be a little more affordable than some of Beauty Trends' rivals in the wig industry, ranging from $19.99 to a basic short-hair synthetic wig, up to a long, human-hair wig by Jon Renau for just over $2,300. You'll also get free shipping if your order is over $59; just remember to enter the code "FREESHIP” to qualify. Be aware that most wigs sold by this store are drop shipped: they aren't in the retailer's physical inventory, which means you should expect a delivery timeframe within 7-10 business days (unless the listing specifies otherwise).
Restocking fees will get you on returns
We don't really love the return and exchange policy at this wig store, to be honest. Beauty Trends allows for one-time exchanges, but they must be received within 10 business days of delivery and are subject to a steep 20% restocking fee. The same timeframe and restocking fee applies to returned items.
Decent track record of customer satisfaction
Beauty Trends has a somewhat "meh” rating of "B-” from the Better Business Bureau - but that's only because the wig store didn't respond to one of the three complaints filed over the last three years (which isn't a big deal, honestly). Other than that, shopper feedback for this wig store is really positive overall, with lots of customers saying that this is the only retailer they trust to have consistent quality, on-time shipping, and solid customer service when needed.
Not a bad option to buy your next wig
All things considered, Beauty Trends has slipped a little in our rankings. The selection of wigs has gotten smaller over the years, and it definitely doesn't hold a candle to rival wig stores whose inventory is in the thousands. The return policy isn't the most customer-centered either. But, there are hundreds of shoppers (mostly ladies) who have used Beauty Trends for years and love the overall experience of buying a wig here. Keep this retailer in mind as a backup - because we recommend checking out the wig shops with bigger inventories (and friendlier returns) first.
For about two decades Vogue Wigs has offered a range of hairpieces that include costume wigs, hair extensions, accessories, and yes, your standard synthetic and human hair wigs. The company is based in California and offers customer support via toll-free number if you have any questions when buying your perfect wig.
3,000+ wigs - if they're in stock
At first glance, the selection at Vogue Wigs is extensive, with almost 3,000 wigs featured in their inventory. However, "inventory” is a key word here: when we went to sort the wigs from lowest price to highest, we found page after page of options that were marked as "out of stock”. Finally, on page five, we found some basic wigs for just $17; flipping it around to see the highest-priced wigs at Vogue, we spotted the Blake Lite Human Hair Wig by Jon Renau. Priced at $4,493.10, it was a little less expensive than what we found at rival wig stores.
Consider Wigscription if you buy regularly
And, if you use the code WESHIP, you can get free USPS Priority Shipping on orders over $50 here. But there's another option: you can pay $24.99 a year for Vogue Wigs' Wigscription program, and it'll get you free shipping on every order and free shipping on any returns or exchanges. We're not sure that's a great deal for most customers, but if you're a frequent buyer of wigs and you like what Vogue Wigs has to offer, give it a thought before you place your first order.
Filters make shopping easy
Vogue Wigs is pretty intuitive to shop. You can jump right to a particular category, like African American or Ultra Petite, go with a brand you know and love, or go by texture or length. Alternately, you can use the filters to sort out every wig in the inventory and only have to sift through the ones that match what you've pictured for your next hairpiece. FYI, Vogue Wigs has about 20 options for men and 10 for children, in addition to the thousands for women.
Helpful details and photos
When you've reached your results list, it's easy to see at a glance if each wig comes in multiple colors and how many shoppers have left reviews. There aren't a ton of wigs with customer ratings, though, and most of the styles that do have them only got feedback from a dozen reviewers or fewer. But, one of the most versatile wigs we spotted in the inventory here is the Bennett Lace Front Wig by Tony of Beverly, with 24 ratings and nearly 50 different color choices. Vogue Wigs does a good job of showing lots of different photo angles for each hairpiece, plus a short video displaying the wig on a mannequin and how it looks once it's been applied.
Retailer left customers hanging
Unfortunately, Vogue Wigs has taken a sharp dive in our rankings since our last evaluation, going from a first-place finish to a "below average” rating. Why? Recent customer complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau have gone unanswered, and almost all of them are from shoppers who were promised a refund and never got it. That's one thing if you're buying an inexpensive synthetic wig just for fun, but totally unacceptable when you've invested a thousand dollars or more in your new look. There are quite a few five-star reviews left for Vogue Wigs through the store's Google listing, so all is not totally lost here, but we just can't get past the company failing to respond in any way to the perfectly legitimate complaints registered with the BBB.
Nothing customer-friendly about the returns
We're also not thrilled with the return policy here. You'll only have 14 business days (roughly three calendar weeks) to return your wig, and you'll have a 15% restocking fee deducted from your refund if you don't opt for an exchange instead. Some wigs, including those by Bellami, Bosley, Henry Margu, and Louis Ferre, plus all costume wigs, are not eligible for a return. Clearance and sale items are also final sale with Vogue Wigs.
No longer a wig store we strongly recommend
Is Vogue Wigs the worst wig store in our review? No, but it's not our favorite anymore either. The inventory is decent once you get past the out-of-stock wigs, and the site is pretty easy to shop - but we can't give an enthusiastic recommendation to any retailer that doesn't respond to most (or preferably all) customer complaints. Vogue Wigs has been outpaced by some higher-ranked rivals, both in terms of selection and customer service, and you'd be wise to give those a look before buying your wig here.
Paula Young is a wig store run by Specialty Commerce Corporation, which is the same parent company behind other wig and hair companies like Wig Shop, Especially Yours Wigs, VersaHair, Salon Silhouettes, and a few others. They've been around for over 30 years, but unfortunately, they haven't built the best reputation among customers. In fact, the Better Business Bureau gives Specialty Commerce Corporation a not-so-great "C+” rating, and if you take a look at shopper feedback, you'll find quite a few negatives about them and the companies they own.
Pattern of complaints
In fact, every time we've evaluated Paula Young, there's been an alert from the BBB. Back in 2018, people were being signed up to pay monthly for a loyalty program and didn't really have a way to cancel. That's no longer on the retailer's BBB listing, but now there's a new alert: a pattern of complaints about customers not being notified that sale or clearance items can't be refunded and only being offered store credit. Almost a year after the alert was issued by the BBB, Paula Young's corporate HQ still hadn't responded. Not a good look, pun intended.
Lots of wigs, not many customer ratings
It's a shame, really, because Paula Young does offer quite a wide selection of wigs to choose from. They have over 600 synthetic human hair wigs available. They've made it pretty convenient to narrow down the choices by allowing you to sort their inventory by price, brand, size, color, type, and fiber. They've even got multiple images for each wig, so you can get a good look at what you're buying and all of the different color choices. Plus, customers have the option to leave product reviews, which can be super helpful when you're shopping online - though most of the Paula Young wigs we spotted didn't have any.
Some nice ways to save money
Prices here are comparable to what you'll find at other wig stores, starting around $30 for the most basic of synthetic styles and going up to $4,500 and more for long, 100% human hair wigs. As you browse the site, you'll probably get a pop-up offer a savings opportunity; the first one we got was a discount of 20% off our first order, but the fine print said that the promotion excluded Paula's Picks, WIGSHOP, and wigs priced at $39.99 or less. Plus, Paula Young offers a 150% price match guarantee. If you find the same wig at a cheaper price elsewhere, just shoot their customer service team an email with the URL, and they'll match the price by 150%.
Decent return policy
How about returns? You've got 30 days if you want to return your wig, or 60 days if you'd like to exchange it. In both cases, you'll pay $10.95 if you use Paula Young's SmartPost return label to send the wig back to them. And, if you're opting for a refund, be aware that you'll have a $19 restocking fee per item deducted from what's credited back to you. One exception: if the wig you buy is labeled as a "drop ship” item (and many of the ones we browsed were), you'll have a 21-day window for both exchanges and returns.
Customers aren't very happy anymore
And now we're back to customer feedback. Beyond the issues reported by the BBB, customer comments are pretty lackluster elsewhere too. While Paula Young does have some loyal, repeat customers, many others are a one-and-done because of the poor quality of the wigs, the frustrating return shipping costs, and yes, people are still finding themselves being charged a monthly fee that they never signed up for.
A lot of room for improvement
While Paula Young may seem tempting with its wide variety and competitive prices, we have some concerns. Customers have had issues with customer service, delivery, and refunds, which is definitely not ideal. If you're thinking of giving them a try, we highly recommend reading customer reviews on specific wigs - when available - to get a better sense of the quality of individual hairpieces. However, due to their ongoing alerts from the BBB and the negative shopper feedback we've come across, Paula Young remains one of the lowest-rated wig stores on our list.
ReWigs has been around for a little over 10 years. They offer both 100% human hair and heat-friendly synthetic wigs to customers worldwide. ReWigs has a pretty impressive inventory at first glance: nearly 4500 wigs to choose from, with thousands of options for both synthetic and 100% human hair. You'll need to pick one of those to start, but from there the site makes it really easy to filter. Maybe you have a preference for length, color, or cap construction: just make those selections and you'll quickly get the results that match.
Site typos are unprofessional
As you browse, though, you'll quickly realize that this isn't the most professional wig store on the market. There were quite a few typos (like "culry” instead of "curly” and "bobo” instead of "bob”) and places where the wording definitely didn't look like a native speaker of English wrote it. Lots of wig shops are based in China, and those errors were our first clue that ReWigs is too.
Product images are taken from the internet
Another aspect of shopping for wigs here that's often a bad sign? Wigs with celebrity photos but no actual product images. Sorry, but a picture of Joan Rivers in front of a Taco Bell logo isn't exactly a compelling way to sell a wig. Even when you click on the various color options for a wig, it doesn't give you a preview of how it looks in the actual hairstyle.
Pricing and reviews are a little suspect
ReWigs' prices range from $39 (synthetic) to $550 (human hair). That's on par with other wig shops for the synthetics but suspiciously cheap for the real hair varieties (which are usually in the thousands when made by a reputable wig manufacturer). At least ReWigs lets customers leave reviews, and they appear to be authentic - or, at least, the site isn't only featuring five-star reviews. For example, the "Human Hair Long Wavy Hair Wig” had over two dozen ratings at the time of our evaluation, a mix of 4- and 5-star ratings. But, we did notice that despite saying that they were "verified buyers”, there were no dates on any of the customer comments.
Customer help isn't easy to reach
Need help from ReWigs? Good luck. The only way to reach customer service is through an online form or via email. The "contact us” page was also where we were able to confirm our conclusion that this is a China-based company, based on the time zone listed for ReWigs' working hours.
"F” from the BBB and lots of shopper complaints
That's a big part of the reason behind the Better Business Bureau's bottom-of-the-barrel "F” rating for this wig shop: failure to respond to all of the complaints filed there. Customers said that ReWigs' products are terrible, often commenting that they're the worst wigs they've ever purchased. One shopper even said her wig looked like a dead rat. And yes, customer service is an ongoing issue: even products that arrive damaged aren't automatically refunded, with ReWigs' reps suggesting that the shopper get wigs "repaired” at a local shop instead.
Don't bother shopping here
Buying a hairpiece from ReWigs is a gamble. Maybe you'll get an inexpensive wig that is exactly what you wanted for your new look - or maybe you'll get a poorly-constructed wig with no hope of getting your money back. Unless you enjoy rolling the dice like that, you'll be better off looking at our higher-ranked wig stores. There's just no good reason to take a chance on ReWigs.
Wigsbuy, founded in 2012, is an online store that sells wigs, extensions, accessories, and tools. Despite having a seemingly impressive inventory of over 1500 synthetic and human hair wigs to choose from, Wigsbuy remains at the bottom of our list. Read on to find out why you should avoid this wig store at all costs.
Website is better than before
We'll start on a positive note (possibly the only one we could identify): Wigsbuy has drastically improved their website experience since our previous review. It used to bombard site visitors with popups and other distractions; now, it's easy to browse images and see what's on offer. At least there's that.
Definitely not a US-based wig store
One noticeable issue on Wigsbuy's website is that many sections are in broken English - like "can I Wear the wig in kitchen?” or "How do I Styling Wig?” Our research indicates that despite having a UK business registration, Wigsbuy is likely run from China or another country. Additionally, their product photos leave a lot to be desired. Many wigs are named after celebrities, and the photo for each wig is just a picture of that celebrity. You're expected to assume that the wig you receive will look identical to the celebrity's hairdo, even though the wig itself is not pictured.
Not easy to shop
You can find over 1500 wigs on Wigsbuy, but the site no longer offers sorting options by brand, density, cap construction, hair texture, length, or material. All you can do is narrow down the wig type at the top of the page (wavy, straight) and then sort the matches by best-sellers, price, or recommended. The prices here range from about $38-$730, which doesn't really fit our expectations for what we'd pay for a real human hair wig (it should be a lot higher).
We don't think the photos or reviews are legit
You might think that the reviews on Wigsbuy hair are proof positive that these products are top-notch. But, notice that literally every single wig has a perfect five-star track record. That's just not realistic, and it makes us pretty sure that they're fake. Plus, the fact that so many wigs are portrayed only with celebrity photos is a good sign that what you see is not what you'll get.
Shipping times and fees aren't bad
Wigsbuy offers free shipping on orders over $39, but if your order falls below that, they charge a shipping price of just $1. However, they also mention that shipping costs may vary based on the weight and dimensions of the package. How long will it take to get your wig? In stock items ship out in 24-72 hours, but pay attention to the processing times listed on each wig's product information.
Customer support is almost nonexistent
According to Wigsbuy, they accept returns or exchanges, but you have to contact customer service to verify the order details and get return instructions - and that's only possible via email. They claim to issue refunds within 2-7 days after receiving the returned package, but customer feedback indicates that you should expect zero support from Wigsbuy. People place orders that never arrive, refunds are never issued, and forget about successfully making a return.
Customers call this store a scam
Wigsbuy's rating with the Better Business Bureau changed from an "F” to "Not Rated” since our previous review. But, that's not exactly a sign of changes for the better: when you look at Wigsbuy's BBB listing and it redirects you to the parent company, TideBuy, you'll see that the BBB received returned mail for that business and opened an investigation based on a pattern of consumer complaints. Go outside the BBB to third-party sites like Trustpilot and you'll see exactly what that means: Wigsbuy has a dismal average of typically less than one star out of five, and the most frequently-used word in shopper reviews is "scam”. Our favorite comment was this one: "Wigsbuy sews shiny strings of who knows what plastic together, sprays it a color, and ships it out... arriving looking like a matted sheepdog”.
Don't waste your time here
Need we say more? You might browse Wigsbuy for a laugh or to get ideas about what wigs you'd like to get - somewhere else. We can't emphasize enough that you should avoid using Wigsbuy for your order, and fortunately there are a number of reliable, high quality wig stores on our list that you can consider instead.
Then again, you could wear a wig for cultural or religious reasons. This can make your wig-shopping even more detailed, as you look for styles that meet your faith's requirements or that allow you to blend in with others in your culture.
But, today's wig shoppers are often looking for something entirely different: fashion and convenience. Is there any quicker way to change your overall vibe than to have a completely different hairstyle (and color)? Especially if maintaining your natural hair is time-consuming and expensive, wearing a wig (or having a collection of several) can get you out the door more quickly for work, switch your look from "day at the office” to "night on the town”, and save you the time you might normally spend on your hairstyle.
No wig stores near you? No problem. There are many online wig shops that give you access to the latest styles and traditional favorites from the privacy and convenience of your own home, whenever you feel like shopping. But which ones can you trust to deliver a high-quality wig that's going to fit right the first time and last for many years?
