Where can you find the best bunk beds? First, you'll need to have an idea of what style of bed is right for the space you have. For example, if you've got kids that are sharing a small bedroom, you'll probably want a traditional style where one frame is stacked right on top of the other - some styles even have a two sets of bunk beds side-by-side with a set of stairs linking them.

Bunk beds are also very popular in vacation rental homes. Kids love the novelty of sleeping in them - and deciding who gets to sleep in the top bunk - while rental owners appreciate being able to accommodate more guests.

Kids Furniture Warehouse

KIDS FURNITURE WAREHOUSE Visit Site

Cost:

From $241 to $4,199

Return Policy:

30 days from delivery on new, unopened items
35% restocking fee on returns of assembled items

Kids Furniture Warehouse is based in Florida, with retail locations in Tampa and Orlando in addition to their full-service online store. They offer a wide variety of bunk beds and loft beds, with shipping/delivery throughout the continental United States. Included among their more than 50 brands are Allen House, Ashley Furniture, Discovery World Furniture, and Magnussen Home.

You won't find the smoothest shopping experience when looking for bunk and loft beds at Kids Furniture Warehouse. There's no option to display all available beds, so you'll need to choose a specific style - like twin-over-futon or bunk beds with stairs. And, if you prefer a loft bed, you'll find those on separate pages too.

Once you've selected the category of bunk bed that you want to browse, it's easy to see all of the available furniture that KFW carries. Click on a model that interests you: you'll find photos of multiple angles, a helpful description and list of product features, and coordinating items at the bottom in case you want to add a matching dresser, desk, or other furniture. You'll also need to click on the dropdown boxes for options specific to the bunk bed you're considering: slat safety panels, touch-up kits, metal center support rails, trundles and drawers are some of the possibilities your bed may include.

And, if product dimensions matter - if you have a tight space or a very specific location where your bunk bed or loft bed will be set up - you can find all of the measurements in a dropdown under the "Add to Cart" button.

Prices at Kids Furniture Warehouse are competitive, and made even more so by their customer-friendly guarantee. However, KFW doesn't specify the terms of that guarantee (e.g. does it apply before placing an order? After? How should a customer go about asking for a price match?).

Unless you live in Central Florida - and can then opt for free pick-up, $49 local delivery, or $109 for delivery and set-up - your shipping costs will be a flat $298 on all orders of 60+ lbs. There's no option for delivery with assembly outside of Kids Furniture Warehouse's local area. This delivery will be curbside-only, which means you'll need to be home when it arrives and have people who can unload it from the truck into your home.

The return policy at this store is fairly standard: 30 days for a full refund on any new, unopened items. If you decide you want to return a bunk bed you've already set up, you'll need to contact KFW and make the request. If they accept your return, expect a restocking fee of 35%.

Kids Furniture Warehouse has a decent reputation, as shown by an "A+" rating with the Better Business Bureau. The majority of their customers have good things to say, especially about the quality of the furniture itself - no particleboard or cheap veneers here. The one common complaint is usually delivery: orders didn't come when expected, and sometimes the store itself wasn't sure if an order had been shipped or delivered. Keep that in mind, especially if you need your bunk beds in a hurry.

Overall, Kids Furniture Warehouse is a good place to get a quality bunk bed. While their online shopping experience could be a lot more streamlined and intuitive, their broad selection and pricing make them a retailer to consider when shopping for a bunk bed or loft bed.

Lowe's

Cost:

From $424 to $1,440

Return Policy:

90 days on new, unused products

We all love Lowe's for our home improvement needs. From hammers to hanging plants, Lowe's has it all, and their online store makes it that much easier to get to work. But, how does this DIY-lover's paradise measure up when shopping for bunk beds?

Regrettably, the answer is "not very well". At the time of our review, Lowe's only carried 20 options: 6 twin-over-twin, 7 twin-over-full, 2 twin-over-queen, and 5 loft styles. And, each of those were extremely limited in terms of upgrades or extras: no possibility of adding a trundle, set of drawers, or brand-coordinated chests of drawers or desks.

Very few of the bunk and loft beds sold by Lowe's had customer reviews; the ones that did only had a single review. The product descriptions and images don't give you much information either, so we recommend that you click on the Specifications section. There, you'll find extensive details about the type of wood and finish, whether or not you'll need a bunkie board, along with all of the measurements you may need to decide if the bed will fit where you want it to go.

On the positive side, all of the bunk beds sold by Lowe's ship for free. If you're in a bigger hurry, you may be able to order online and pick up your furniture at the store on the same day - just be sure your desired location is entered at the top of the site, and you'll be able to see which models are available for pickup.

Lowe's return policy is more generous than some: if your bunk or loft bed is still new/unused, you have 90 days to return it. The site doesn't specify how return shipping works if you choose not to take it to a local store for your return, so you'll want to check to see if your package included a prepaid return slip.

Lowe's is a great place to shop for most home needs, but their selection of loft and bunk beds is underwhelming at best. You'll find a much better selection at the higher-ranked stores in our review.

Continued from above

Most bunk beds offer a range of sizes, from the classic twin-over-twin all the way up to a full-over-full size. Having a larger bottom bed can be especially helpful when Mom or Dad needs to spend some time helping reassure children in the middle of the night! And, if you anticipate that your kids may not always want to share the bunk bed, many styles give you the option to disconnect the top from the bottom and use each as a stand-alone bed.

Finally, the most high-end bunk beds incorporate novelty themes to create the bedroom of a child's dreams, from princess castles to treetop hideaways.

On the other hand, if you're equipping a college dorm room and want a bed that frees up floor space, a loft bed is a great fit. Many loft beds have built-in desks and shelves underneath, and some come with a futon for extra seating when friends come to hang out.

Buying a bunk bed or loft bed online can make your shopping extremely easy. Instead of driving from one store to another, you can see hundreds - even thousands - of brands, frame materials, configurations and options with just a few clicks of the mouse. The best online retailers of bunk beds give you all the information you need to get the right fit: from safety tips (e.g. top bunks aren't recommended for children under the age of 6), to measurement helps, as well as extras like guardrails and canopies. Better yet, many bunk beds and loft beds come with free shipping: no need to try and squeeze bulky furniture boxes into your trunk or strap them to your car roof!

When deciding where to buy your bunk bed, you might initially feel overwhelmed by the wide variety of options out there. Here are several factors to consider that can guide your shopping decisions:

  • Selection. How many bunk beds and/or loft beds does the store offer? Can you find a range of choices in terms of brands, styles, and price points?
  • Return Policy. If you don't like the bunk bed once it's been delivered, can you return it and get a refund? Will you have to cover the return shipping costs? Is there a restocking fee?
  • Online Shopping Experience. How well-organized is the site? Can you find what you're looking for quickly, or do you have to spend time hunting for what you want?
  • Reputation. What do other customers say about the retailer? Have they been satisfied with the quality of the bunk beds they've ordered? Is the customer service department responsive when problems arise? Is the store in good standing with the Better Business Bureau?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best bunk bed stores available today. We hope this information helps you find the right bunk bed or loft bed for your needs!
