Rooms To Go vs Posh Tots

Best Bunk Bed Stores

To help you find the Best Bunk Bed Stores, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of Rooms To Go and Posh Tots.

Where can you find the best bunk beds? First, you'll need to have an idea of what style of bed is right for the space you have. For example, if you've got kids that are sharing a small bedroom, you'll probably want a traditional style where one frame is stacked right on top of the other - some styles even have a two sets of bunk beds side-by-side with a set of stairs linking them.

Bunk beds are also very popular in vacation rental homes. Kids love the novelty of sleeping in them - and deciding who gets to sleep in the top bunk - while rental owners appreciate being able to accommodate more guests.

Rooms To Go has likely popped up on your TV and radio, featuring one-stop shopping for furnishing any room in your home. The Rooms To Go Kids site has what you'll need for your girl's or boy's bedroom, along with themes geared towards teens. There are just over 80 choices specifically for loft beds and bunk beds.

Many of the loft beds offered by Rooms To Go are tent-style: in other words, they look like a fort, cabin, or castle, with the bed on top and attachments hanging down to give the entire piece of furniture a playhouse-like feel. Other styles are available, including the traditional twin-over-twin and more unique combinations like a twin-over-full loft with steps and a dresser.

Finding what you want isn't incredibly intuitive on the Rooms To Go site. Sorting options on the left of the main Bunk Beds page only include the finish and the size, and then results can be arranged by price, featured styles, name or best-sellers. But, somehow when we started clicking around, we wound up on a page where there were more sorting choices in the navigation - which should also have been shown on the main page for bunk beds.

And, even once you choose a bunk bed that looks like a good fit for your needs, you won't find much detail on the product page. Dimensions? Just height, width, length. Weight limits? No. Recommended ceiling clearance? No. The only helpful information is whether or not it will require a bunkie board to support the mattress. But, even that's not consistent: when we toggled between a white and a taffy finish for the same model of bunk bed, one clearly said that a bunkie was required and listed it for purchase, while the other mentioned that it was necessary in one of the bullet points without having it there as an add-on to our order.

Rooms To Go has a limited delivery range: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia and Kentucky are the only locations where delivery is available statewide. Additional parts of Oklahoma, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Louisiana and Washington, DC are also eligible, but not the entire state.

Delivery charges depend on what you buy and where it's delivered. For delivery of just a bunk bed or loft bed in the zip code we checked, we'd pay a delivery/set-up fee of $89.99. For a bunk/loft and one or more additional items, like a dresser or bookcase, the fee increases to $139.99.

Rooms To Go has the worst return policy of any bunk bed retailer we reviewed: you only have 48 hours from when your furniture is delivered to request a return. You'll be responsible for return shipping costs via UPS only. And don't think it'll be any better if you buy from a showroom: there are no returns accepted once your purchase has been delivered.

Frankly, we're not sure how Rooms To Go has an "A+" rating and accreditation with the BBB. Almost every single customer review we found said that the delivery experience was beyond nightmarish, with damages to both the furniture itself and the customers' homes, improperly assembled products, and a "not my problem" attitude from customer service representatives.

Given that the Better Business Bureau seems to be the only place for anything positive about Rooms To Go, we suggest that you consider another one of the more customer-friendly bunk bed stores in our review.

As you might guess by the name, PoshTots is geared towards the parent who wants to have only the best for their children - from furniture to decor. Founded in 2000, PoshTots wants to help you create an environment where your child's imagination can flourish.

PoshTots has some of the most unique themed bunk beds on the market. Check out their Castle Bed, complete with towers, drawers, and a staircase fit for a princess - all for the luxurious price of $17,999. They also carry a selection of about 40 less dramatic designs, like the twin-over-twin Sweetie Pie and the Farmhouse twin-over-full with pull-out drawer/trundle.

You'll have all of the help you need to design the dream bedroom. Design consultants are available via toll-free number or through the Live Chat pop-up on the bottom right-hand part of the screen. On our most recent visit, in that pop-up we were offered promo codes with discounts of 15% off orders of $750+ and 20% off $2000+. PoshTots has a price match guarantee that may be useful if you find one of their bunk beds at a lower price with another retailer.

Standard delivery is free on all of the bunk beds sold by PoshTots. You may want to consider the Premier or White Glove Delivery options, which are available for an extra fee. Standard only gets the item delivered to the end of your driveway or sidewalk, while Premier means it will be brought into your home, and White Glove includes set-up in the room of your choice as well as removal of all packing materials. That service ranges from $69 to $2000 for Premier and from $99 to $2400 for White Glove, depending on the bed you select.

One big drawback to buying your bunk bed at PoshTots is the return policy. While they do offer a 30-day return policy for all in-stock items, every bunk bed we looked at was considered a custom item - and therefore was not returnable for any reason.

As we started to look further into PoshTots' reputation, the red flags started popping up. Given how high-end their bunk bed selection is, it wasn't a surprise not to find thousands of reviews. Unfortunately, the reviews we found were not great; in fact, the more recent ones were almost completely 1-star complaints. We read many stories of orders that went unfulfilled for up to nine months and finally had to be disputed with the credit card company. Granted, most of the bunk beds say pretty clearly that they take anywhere from 2-10 weeks to ship, but almost a year? Not good.

Then we decided to take a look at the PoshTots blog. It no longer exists. Website URL? "Not secure."

PoshTots' BBB listing was being updated at the time of our review, possibly to reflect the change in ownership in 2014. So, we looked up the other business owned by PoshTots' new owners, FIG Stores. That business does have a rating with the Better Business Bureau: an "F".

PoshTots just doesn't deliver. There are other more reliable retailers that also sell high-end, novelty bunk beds if that's what you're looking for - and we strongly recommend that you choose one of them for your purchase.

Continued from above

Most bunk beds offer a range of sizes, from the classic twin-over-twin all the way up to a full-over-full size. Having a larger bottom bed can be especially helpful when Mom or Dad needs to spend some time helping reassure children in the middle of the night! And, if you anticipate that your kids may not always want to share the bunk bed, many styles give you the option to disconnect the top from the bottom and use each as a stand-alone bed.

Finally, the most high-end bunk beds incorporate novelty themes to create the bedroom of a child's dreams, from princess castles to treetop hideaways.

On the other hand, if you're equipping a college dorm room and want a bed that frees up floor space, a loft bed is a great fit. Many loft beds have built-in desks and shelves underneath, and some come with a futon for extra seating when friends come to hang out.

Buying a bunk bed or loft bed online can make your shopping extremely easy. Instead of driving from one store to another, you can see hundreds - even thousands - of brands, frame materials, configurations and options with just a few clicks of the mouse. The best online retailers of bunk beds give you all the information you need to get the right fit: from safety tips (e.g. top bunks aren't recommended for children under the age of 6), to measurement helps, as well as extras like guardrails and canopies. Better yet, many bunk beds and loft beds come with free shipping: no need to try and squeeze bulky furniture boxes into your trunk or strap them to your car roof!

When deciding where to buy your bunk bed, you might initially feel overwhelmed by the wide variety of options out there. Here are several factors to consider that can guide your shopping decisions:

  • Selection. How many bunk beds and/or loft beds does the store offer? Can you find a range of choices in terms of brands, styles, and price points?
  • Return Policy. If you don't like the bunk bed once it's been delivered, can you return it and get a refund? Will you have to cover the return shipping costs? Is there a restocking fee?
  • Online Shopping Experience. How well-organized is the site? Can you find what you're looking for quickly, or do you have to spend time hunting for what you want?
  • Reputation. What do other customers say about the retailer? Have they been satisfied with the quality of the bunk beds they've ordered? Is the customer service department responsive when problems arise? Is the store in good standing with the Better Business Bureau?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best bunk bed stores available today. We hope this information helps you find the right bunk bed or loft bed for your needs!
