Office Depot

OFFICE DEPOT Visit Site

Office Depot (and partner brand Office Max) are no strangers when it comes to business needs. From supplies to print-and-ship services, customers trust them to deliver quality products on-time.

Their Copy-and-Print department is easy to use for printing your business cards. To get started, you'll need to have an idea of what kind of business card you want. On the main page, you'll choose from the following:

  • Same-Day: if you're in a hurry, Office Depot carries several designs that can be picked up at an in-store location near you if you order online before 2PM
  • Premium Full-Color
  • Luxury Heavyweight
  • Mini Business Cards
  • Appointment Cards
  • Coupon and Loyalty Cards
  • Raised Print
  • Value
  • Magnets

Once you've chosen the type of card you need, you can use the options on the left-hand side of the results page to narrow down the options further. You can select the industry you serve, such as Animals and Pet Care or Accounting, or styles ranging from Classically Elegant to Patriotism. Don't overlook the "Show All" button to see everything available, especially if you don't see your preferred style or industry in the short list.

As with most business card printers, the more you buy the more you save. In the Value category, for instance, a box of 100 cost $9.99, while a box of 300 was priced at $19.99. Be sure to check out the banner at the top of the page, to see what Print & Copy specials might be available. At the time of our review, Office Depot was running a promotion of 500 Premium Full-Color business cards starting at $9.99.

Office Depot also offers you extra savings through its rewards programs. This complimentary program gets you 2% back in certificates that can be spent in-store or online. And, if you spend $500 or more within a year, you'll be automatically upgraded to the VIP Rewards program, which increases your rewards level on Print/Copy/Ship services to 5% and gets you free delivery with no minimum purchase requirement.

Shipping is free on orders of $9.99 and up, so you'll probably not have to pay shipping costs on any business card order if you choose standard delivery speed. The only drawback? Standard delivery speed was the only option we were given for every card style we selected, from Value to Luxury. In other words, unless you choose one of the same-day styles and have an Office Depot near you, you should expect a turnaround time from order to delivery of at least a week and a half.

On the other hand, Office Depot does offer a "Done Right, On Time, Guaranteed" policy. Of course, because business cards are a custom product, returns and refunds only apply if the error or default was Office Depot's fault - but it's good to know that you have that promise if something does go wrong on their end.

With one of the best selections of business cards on the market, low pricing, and same-day options for those who live near a retail location, Office Depot should be on your list of candidates for your printing needs.

Overnight Prints

OVERNIGHT PRINTS Visit Site

Overnight Prints specializes in two things: extremely fast print times and green printing practices. Since 2003, the company has used waterless printing methods that result in "better image definition and a broader color spectrum", using a chemical-free system that also wastes less paper than traditional print companies. If having your business cards printed in an environmentally-friendly way is important to you, Overnight Prints may be your company of choice.

Speed is the other hallmark of this service. They call it "BITGIT", short for "Buy It Today, Get It Tomorrow." However, there wasn't an easy way to find out which cards were eligible for that super-fast delivery; most the cards we selected were only available for Ground or Economy shipping, with a delivery date 11-12 days from our order date.

As you're designing your card, be aware that some options are automatically included, and you'll need to remove them manually if you don't want them. For instance, in one card we considered, there was a textured coating option that cost an additional $2.00 per 100 cards plus a $2.00 service fee; it was automatically selected for our order unless we clicked the "remove" button. Now, there's nothing sinister to these automatic inclusions - they're usually just the features that make the design you chose look the way you see it on the page (which is why you liked it to begin with!). Just make sure you get what you want, and nothing that you don't.

It was difficult to figure out Overnight Prints' average prices. One card we looked at was $53.05 for 500 double-sided cards with a texture option (including the discount given for clicking from the Top Consumer Reviews site). On the order screen, there was a $1 "File Review" fee for checking our file for any errors; we were mystified, though, that "color, spelling errors and punctuation, and picture quality" were specifically excluded from the review. What exactly is included? Good question.

What about the quality of the cards? Customer reviews were extremely mixed. On the one hand, the business had an "A+" rating with the Better Business Bureau at the time of our review, and some verified reviews were positive, praising the pricing and delivery times. On the other hand, we found some extremely negative experiences specifically related to business cards that gave us pause.

One person received cards that were printed off-center, even though the design proofs showed the original design to be perfectly centered; this customer was told by Overnight Prints' customer service representative that it was the customer's fault. Over several thousand customer reviews, Overnight Prints only had an average of just under 5 out of 10 stars, with frequent complaints about print quality and slow shipping even when expedited shipping was purchased.

While we really wanted to like Overnight Prints for their fast shipping and "green" printing processes, we found too many issues with their ordering process, delivery times and overall quality to be able to give them a more positive recommendation.

There’s no need for them to try and remember your name and then Google you - instead, they can just pull out your card and get in touch. In other words, this “paper handshake” gives both of you a way to know instantly everything you need in order to work together.

Another big advantage to handing out a business card is making yourself familiar to your prospective customers, especially by including a photo. If you’re planning on attending large networking events, having your photo will make it more likely that you stand out and are remembered among the other business cards handed out.

Finally, business cards can be used for a variety of reasons that go beyond traditional networking. Loyalty/reward cards, gift tags, and “mommy meet-and-greet” styles are just a few of the novel ways that people are using business cards.

Best of all, there’s no need to drive all over town to find a printer for your business cards. You’ll find an amazing selection of styles all at the click of a mouse: most people buy their business cards online, taking advantage of the convenience of shopping from home, being able to upload graphics and photos, all at prices that easily rival anything that can be found at a local brick-and-mortar print shop.

When you begin the process of choosing a service for printing your business cards, you should keep several key factors in mind. These include the following:

  • Quality. Are the business cards printed on good cardstock, or are they flimsy? Does the service have a good reputation as evidenced by positive customer reviews?
  • Variety. Part of your goal in having the best business card is to stand out. Does the store carry a nice range of options, so that your card will be memorable? Options may include horizontal and vertical layouts, graphics and/or photo capabilities, and QR codes.
  • Cost. Ordering your business cards online is affordable, but some services are more expensive than others. Are there any discounts or other offers that can make your purchase even more economical?
