CANVAS HQ

Canvas HQ continues to be the first-choice site for ordering high-quality canvas prints. Unlike most companies in the industry, they don't rely on "discounts" (which seem to always be available) to offer low prices. Instead, Canvas HQ shows customers their everyday pricing very transparently on their site - and they're very affordable.

You can easily see this for yourself: a flat 8x10 canvas sells for $17.95. Framing depths range from 0.75" to 2", and prices vary accordingly from $36.95 to $52.95. Looking for something much larger? Canvas HQ's prints top out at an incredible 96x53 size, priced from $326.95 - $980.95, depending on the framing depth you select.

Shipping costs are also excellent: you can get free delivery, and you won't even have to wait until the next century for your order to come, because even this complimentary delivery comes with an estimated timeframe of 6-12 calendar days. If you need it a little sooner, you can pay $9.95 for FedEx Ground and get it within a week, $29.95 for 2-day air, or $49.95 for next-day air.

To start your canvas print, you first select your favorite image from your computer, or from your Facebook, Instagram, or Dropbox account. You'll soon see that Canvas HQ has one of the most technologically up-to-date interfaces for creating your perfect canvas print. Instead of having to click through multiple screens, adding features or selecting from options, you'll find them all on the same screen as your image. We suggest clicking on the 3D option, so that you can see exactly how your canvas print is coming along in real life! (Note: you won't see image effects applied to your image, only what you've selected for frame depth, the type of image wrapping, and so on. You can also name your canvas and provide Canvas HQ with any special instructions you may have.

And, unless you specifically request them not to, Canvas HQ will provide free image retouching. This includes services that usually come for an extra fee on competitor sites, including teeth whitening and blemish removal, people removal (bye-bye, photobombers!), straightening horizons, trash removal, centering, and much more. If you paid for these services a la carte with another business, you'd easily spend at least $20 if not more. But, if this isn't your thing, you just toggle the switch on the interface.

Like the best companies in any industry, Canvas HQ has a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee: get a replacement or full refund if you're unhappy for any reason. Just make your request within 30 days of getting your canvas print. Plus, everything they sell has a lifetime guarantee that it won't bubble, fade, or crack over time.

You probably won't be surprised to find out that customers love Canvas HQ. You can see this for yourself on the site's testimonials page, where you can read what customers have had to say and also the images they ordered. You might even get some inspiration for your next order! Unfailingly, shoppers say that Canvas HQ delivers on every promise they make, and then some.

Canvas HQ sets the standard for attention to detail, customer satisfaction, and transparent, reasonable pricing with no guessing games. They've earned our first-place ranking among companies that sell the best canvas prints.

CANVAS PEOPLE

Canvas People has been in business since 2009, selling over 1.4 million canvases nationwide.

The company has made some positive changes since our last review. Our photo uploaded quickly, with no resolution issues or other problems. We were also pleased to see so many options:

  • Canvas size (12)
  • Wrapping (2: a standard 0.75" wrap or a thick wrap of 1.25")
  • Effects (3: black and white, sepia color pop)
  • Improvements: 3 (basic brightness, centering, color balance; red eye and time stamp removal; advanced remastering including blemish removal)
  • Frame: Floating or none

Regular pricing at Canvas People is very high: starting at $44.99 for a 4x4 print, all the way up to $194.99 for a 20x48 project. However, there was an automatically-applied 80% discount when we went to place an order; we're guessing that the "promotion" or something like it is usually in place, but there's no guarantee of that.

One minor annoyance: the price we were given for a 4x4 canvas print was $8.99, but it had mysteriously changed to $9.00 between the Create a Canvas page and the order summary.

And a larger irritation? Having to pay $14.95 in shipping for a print that cost less than $10. That's only for regular shipping; if we wanted to get our print delivered in 5-7 days after it's created, we'd have to pay another $14.95, or an additional $24.95 to get it within 3-5 business days. Canvas People recommends ordering 12-14 business days in advance of when you need your print, to make sure you get it in time.

Despite some improvements, Canvas People actually ranks much lower this time around. Why? A rating of "F" with the Better Business Bureau indicates serious issues with the way this company deals with customers. The BBB states that the business has failed to respond appropriately - or at all! - to many customer complaints. Reviews both on the BBB site and elsewhere describe credit cards being charged for orders with no confirmation of an order actually being placed, poorly-printed images (with features not requested or even zooming in on photos when the customer didn't want it done), and an overall lackluster experience.

All of these factors combined to equal a 1.5-star rating for Canvas People; we think you'll have a much more pleasant ordering process if you choose a higher-ranked business in our review.

Best Canvas Prints

To help you find the Best Canvas Prints, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of Canvas HQ and Canvas People.

Who has the best Canvas Prints? Gone are the days where the best way to display a treasured photograph was in a traditional frame. Most home decoration TV shows, magazines, and websites feature canvas prints as the most modern-yet-elegant format for showing off your children, favorite scenic shots from a vacation, or even spotlighting your four-legged family members.

Using a canvas print takes your images from a flat, two-dimensional aspect and pops them out as a 3-D work of art. Whether you're buying a canvas print for yourself or as a gift to commemorate a special occasion, ordering it online can save you time and money while still resulting in the pixel-perfect quality you'd expect if you entrusted the project to a local photographer and print shop.

When working with an online supplier of canvas prints, you'll find that the best websites will walk you through everything you need to know - from how to select an ideal image, the best canvas size for your selected photograph, which framing to use, and which touch-up services like fixing color balance or adding text elements might give it a special touch.

How can you tell which canvas print company you should use for your next project? Services vary widely, so as you decide which one would meet your needs, keep these factors in mind:

  • Pricing. How much will you pay for the print size you want? Does the company offer any discounts, free or reduced-cost shipping, or other perks that can make it even more affordable? How much will you pay for upgrades like contrast balancing or other features?
  • Reputation. What do previous customers have to say about the quality of the canvas prints they purchased? Does the company have a rating with the BBB?
  • Simplicity. Does the company's website make it as frustration-free as possible to upload your photos and get your canvas print ordered quickly? Is it easy to make changes, add customization, or fix flaws in the photo?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Canvas Print stores available today. We hope this information helps you design the right canvas print for your home, office, or gift-giving needs!

Types of Pictures That Make Good Canvas Prints

We've all had a "Kodak" moment. Maybe it was the first time you saw a baby fawn taking its first steps in a field. Maybe it was that fantastic waterfall you encountered at the end of a hike in the wilderness. Or maybe it was just your grandma, sitting on her rocking chair on the front porch of her hundred-year-old home. Whatever the moment, we've all had one where we just knew it would make a memorable photo.

Photos that can only be classified as "Kodak" moments definitely are the kinds that make excellent canvas art.

But what, exactly, is canvas art?

Canvas art is created through a specialized printer which requires special eight to 12 color inkjet printers containing UV-resistant ink. You want to use UV-resistant ink because if the canvas will be hung on a wall, it most likely will at some point be exposed to sunlight, which can cause it to fade. UV-resistant ink helps to slow the fading process. The printer is designed to accommodate canvas, which is heavier than most of the kinds of paper we use in our home and office printers.

A high-resolution photo or digital image is then taken, scanned into a computer, and printed onto the canvas with the special printer.

Once you understand the process, it is much easier to choose photos or digital images which would lend themselves to the creation of a good canvas piece.

The first step in choosing a picture that would make a good canvas print is to make sure the image being used is of a high resolution. Most new cameras are capable of 8 to 12 megapixel images, with more expensive digital SLR cameras able to produce even higher resolutions. The general rule of thumb is if the image isn't at least 350 dpi (dots per inch), it will not reproduce well onto canvas. If you are unsure whether your photo or digital image is of good enough quality for printing onto canvas, consider consulting a professional photographer or canvas art business before placing an order. They should be able to review the image or print photo and tell you if it will reproduce well.

If the quality of the photo is acceptable, you also may want to ask the printing company if they are able to edit or "brush up" the photo for you. Issues like red eye, smears and even dust on the lens of the camera can transfer to your canvas art. These are all things that with the right photo-editing equipment - such as Photoshop - can be altered to create a better-looking image.

Among some of the images which have found their way onto canvas include:

  • Family portraits
  • Portraits of pets
  • Skyline photos, particularly at sunset or sunrise
  • Landscape photos
  • Waterfalls, lakes or the ocean
  • Wildlife

The list of what can be transferred to canvas is endless and truly depends on the taste of the individual who is ordering the piece.
