CANVAS POP

For almost 10 years, Canvas Pop has been an innovator in the canvas prints market. They were the first canvas printing service to offer Instagram and Facebook photo printing - which has now become a hallmark of most top-rated print companies.

You'll find them mentioned in the New York Times, on Good Morning America, and many other places. Here's why:

  • "100% Absolute Love Guarantee" - no time limit, no fine print. If you don't love your print, they'll either send you a replacement or give you a full refund.
  • Free digital proofs - see exactly how your print is going to look before it goes into production.
  • Free retouching
  • Any resolution image, any size - their experts will help you make it look great.
  • Commitment to gallery-quality canvas printing, with every project handcrafted in the US.

What about the actual process of designing and ordering a canvas print? It doesn't get easier: select a saved image on your device, or choose one from IG or FB. Ours loaded very quickly from our laptop. Once you choose the size, you'll need to select your frame and edge options. We loved how Canvas Pop shows photos of what each option looks like, making it so much easier to visualize our project. Rolled canvas is the default; if you want a frame, it'll add from $21 to $46, depending on the depth and color you want. Or, if you want a black border, white border, or photo wrap, those are available at no extra charge. Add a digital proof for free by entering the desired email address for its delivery.

Finally, if you want any filters/effects or advanced design services, make sure to expand the Advanced Options section. You do have to pay extra for things like whitening teeth or removing people from a photo; prices range from $9.95 to $49.95, depending on the level of services you're requesting.

Pricing was affordable. For our image, we were given 4 suggested sizes ranging from 8x10 to 30x40, at costs from $33 to $169. As we browsed the Canvas Pop site, we got a pop-up offer of a 45% discount. Unlike most website pop-ups, this one didn't require an email address and/or newsletter subscription to get the discount. Instead, we were taken to Canvas Pop's Coupons and Deals page where we found the coupon code for our discount. We liked that! Plus, if you happen to be a designer, photographer, or artist, get in touch with their support team for additional savings, because Canvas Pop "loves supporting great art and design".

There are two shipping options: $14.00 for standard shipping and $39.00 for rush shipping. Standard has a production time of 5-7 days, plus 3-7 business days for delivery, while rush comes with a 3-day production time and 4 business day delivery window.

What do people have to say about Canvas Pop? Check out social media for yourself: you'll find lots of glowing comments on their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Everywhere we looked, their reputation was fantastic. This reputation would be even better if, in the future, Canvas Pop can also secure a rating and/or accreditation with the Better Business Bureau; they had no rating (positive or negative) at the time of our review.

Canvas Pop is a company that genuinely cares about the quality of the products they sell and about their customers. We're sure you'll enjoy your experience if you select their services for your canvas prints.

EASY CANVAS PRINTS

Easy Canvas Prints is an established seller of - you guessed it - canvas prints and other printed photo items. With a home base in Texas, this company manufactures and ships all of their products within the United States.

Like we noticed with the majority of companies offering canvas prints, Easy Canvas Prints has expensive "everyday" pricing that is offset by "limited-time sales". You'd have to shop there over several months to see for sure, but our guess is that you'll always find something the site is celebrating - and willing to give you a discount because of it. When we went to order a basic 8x8 canvas print, the "regular" price was a whopping $69.98 but the "new" price was a very affordable $4.95.

Easy Canvas Prints has 7 basic sizes:

  • 8x8
  • 12x12
  • 11x14
  • 16x20
  • 18x24
  • 24x36
  • 30x40

You can also enter a custom set of dimensions, with the largest combination being 40x40.

You'll need to upload an image, either from photos saved to your device or from Instagram. (We think the older set might appreciate it if Easy Canvas Prints added a Facebook option as well.) We chose one from our laptop and it uploaded super-fast. We really liked how, as we looked at different size options, it showed us what a canvas print of that size might look like in a typical room.

After hitting the Continue button, you'll see the various options you have for your canvas. Select between the standard 0.75" standard wrap, or select the deeper 1.5" gallery wrap for an additional $3.15. You can actually drag the preview image around to see how your changes will look in the finished product. We noticed that the wrap seems to only have a mirror option, which looked a little funny seeing the subject of our photo having an extra ear along one of the edges; a more traditional wrap option could be an easy improvement for Easy Canvas Prints.

Other available options include framing, open back vs. dust cover or canvas stand, colored borders instead of image wrap (choose grey, black, or white), or color effects like black/white and sepia. Many of these changes are included at no extra charge.

Clicking on the "Add to Cart" button, you'll probably get a pop-up asking if you'd like a more advanced hanging option: wall mount for $1.49 or a wall hanging system for $4.99, complete with a small diagram showing how each one is installed.

What was glaringly missing from the Easy Canvas Prints? Image retouching. Most services offer - usually at an extra cost - the option to have timestamps deleted, color balanced, even teeth whitened and facial blemishes removed. We didn't see that anywhere on this site.

Shipping was also on the high side. For a print that cost only $4.95, our lowest-cost shipping option was $10.99 for no-rush shipping with delivery in approximately 17 days. This choice came with the offer of an email voucher for a future discount of 65% on metal, wood, and pillows. Standard shipping with 8-10 business day delivery was $12.99, while 3-4 business day delivery cost $29.49 and 1-2 business day, expedited shipping would set us back just under $70.

How does Easy Canvas Prints measure up against the competition in terms of quality? For the most part, people are very satisfied with the entire experience, from placing an order to getting a high-quality print delivered when expected. We found thousands of five-star reviews in the last 12 months alone, which is impressive.

On the other hand, the company had a "B+" grade with the Better Business Bureau at the time of our review. Why? It has everything to do with Easy Canvas Prints' use of the phrase "100% Satisfaction Guarantee". According to the BBB, business can only use that phrase if they will refund a customer's purchase price in full at their request. However, Easy Canvas Prints only covers manufacturer defects and limits that to a 90-day period.

At the end of the day, if you're looking for high-quality prints, you can probably trust the many happy customers who love what they've gotten from Easy Canvas Prints. We do recommend that you start with an image that you like as-is, with no retouching needed, since that feature is unavailable with this service.

Best Canvas Prints

To help you find the Best Canvas Prints, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of Canvas Pop and Easy Canvas Prints.

Who has the best Canvas Prints? Gone are the days where the best way to display a treasured photograph was in a traditional frame. Most home decoration TV shows, magazines, and websites feature canvas prints as the most modern-yet-elegant format for showing off your children, favorite scenic shots from a vacation, or even spotlighting your four-legged family members.

Using a canvas print takes your images from a flat, two-dimensional aspect and pops them out as a 3-D work of art. Whether you're buying a canvas print for yourself or as a gift to commemorate a special occasion, ordering it online can save you time and money while still resulting in the pixel-perfect quality you'd expect if you entrusted the project to a local photographer and print shop.

When working with an online supplier of canvas prints, you'll find that the best websites will walk you through everything you need to know - from how to select an ideal image, the best canvas size for your selected photograph, which framing to use, and which touch-up services like fixing color balance or adding text elements might give it a special touch.

How can you tell which canvas print company you should use for your next project? Services vary widely, so as you decide which one would meet your needs, keep these factors in mind:

  • Pricing. How much will you pay for the print size you want? Does the company offer any discounts, free or reduced-cost shipping, or other perks that can make it even more affordable? How much will you pay for upgrades like contrast balancing or other features?
  • Reputation. What do previous customers have to say about the quality of the canvas prints they purchased? Does the company have a rating with the BBB?
  • Simplicity. Does the company's website make it as frustration-free as possible to upload your photos and get your canvas print ordered quickly? Is it easy to make changes, add customization, or fix flaws in the photo?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Canvas Print stores available today. We hope this information helps you design the right canvas print for your home, office, or gift-giving needs!

Types of Pictures That Make Good Canvas Prints

We've all had a "Kodak" moment. Maybe it was the first time you saw a baby fawn taking its first steps in a field. Maybe it was that fantastic waterfall you encountered at the end of a hike in the wilderness. Or maybe it was just your grandma, sitting on her rocking chair on the front porch of her hundred-year-old home. Whatever the moment, we've all had one where we just knew it would make a memorable photo.

Photos that can only be classified as "Kodak" moments definitely are the kinds that make excellent canvas art.

But what, exactly, is canvas art?

Canvas art is created through a specialized printer which requires special eight to 12 color inkjet printers containing UV-resistant ink. You want to use UV-resistant ink because if the canvas will be hung on a wall, it most likely will at some point be exposed to sunlight, which can cause it to fade. UV-resistant ink helps to slow the fading process. The printer is designed to accommodate canvas, which is heavier than most of the kinds of paper we use in our home and office printers.

A high-resolution photo or digital image is then taken, scanned into a computer, and printed onto the canvas with the special printer.

Once you understand the process, it is much easier to choose photos or digital images which would lend themselves to the creation of a good canvas piece.

The first step in choosing a picture that would make a good canvas print is to make sure the image being used is of a high resolution. Most new cameras are capable of 8 to 12 megapixel images, with more expensive digital SLR cameras able to produce even higher resolutions. The general rule of thumb is if the image isn't at least 350 dpi (dots per inch), it will not reproduce well onto canvas. If you are unsure whether your photo or digital image is of good enough quality for printing onto canvas, consider consulting a professional photographer or canvas art business before placing an order. They should be able to review the image or print photo and tell you if it will reproduce well.

If the quality of the photo is acceptable, you also may want to ask the printing company if they are able to edit or "brush up" the photo for you. Issues like red eye, smears and even dust on the lens of the camera can transfer to your canvas art. These are all things that with the right photo-editing equipment - such as Photoshop - can be altered to create a better-looking image.

Among some of the images which have found their way onto canvas include:

  • Family portraits
  • Portraits of pets
  • Skyline photos, particularly at sunset or sunrise
  • Landscape photos
  • Waterfalls, lakes or the ocean
  • Wildlife

The list of what can be transferred to canvas is endless and truly depends on the taste of the individual who is ordering the piece.
