Di Bruno Bros

DI BRUNO BROS Visit Site

Cost:

From $49.99 to $69.99 per month

Di Bruno Bros. began in 1939 with a small shop in the Italian Market of South Philadelphia. Today, with several retail locations and an easy-to-shop online storefront, Di Bruno Bros. puts the finest cheeses in the world within reach.

Just look at the photos on their website (especially under the "More About Us" section of the "About Us" page. Want to know more about how each cheese is made, or to see what a gourmet cheese store looks like inside? If your mouth isn't watering in the first few seconds, you probably aren't a fan of cheese!

Di Bruno Bros. offers three cheese clubs, all available in subscriptions of 3, 6, or 12 months.

  • Cheese Pairing 101: for $49.99 per month, recipients get a cheese matched with another treat for optimal taste. Previous pairings include Asiago Stravecchio with speck and Truffled Honey, and triple-crème Delice with cinnamon-cocoa pecans and amarena cherries. This ships during the third week of the month.
  • Kilo: for $57.99 per month, recipients get - you guessed it - approximately one kilogram of cheese in wedge form. As many competitor clubs only send out 1.5 pounds per shipment, the Kilo Club may give you more for your money (remember that 1 kg. = 2.2 lbs.). Past offerings have included Cravero Parmigiano Reggiano and L'amuse Gouda. This ships during the fourth week of the month.
  • Eat Like a Cheesemonger: for $69.99 per month, you receive a shipment personally selected by Di Bruno Bros. VP of Culinary Pioneering and third-generation owner, Emilio Mignucci. What would a world-renowned cheese expert eat? You'll find out with each surprise shipment; some combinations may include fresh cheeses, compotes and accentuating oils, or caviar, cheese, and foie medallions. This ships during the second week of the month.

Although we were initially confused by the pricing on the Di Bruno Bros. website, we eventually figured out that the monthly cost doesn't change based on the size of the subscription: whether you subscribe for 3, 6, or 12 months, you'll pay between $49.99 and $69.99 per month, depending on which club you select. On each club's main page, the price you see defaults to the 3-month total cost; use the dropdown box if you'd like to see the total for a longer subscription period.

All of Di Bruno Bros. cheese clubs ship for free.

Membership Overview:

  • Cheese Selection: Di Bruno Bros selects the cheese and pairings
  • Duration: 3, 6, or 12 months
  • Frequency: Monthly
  • Shipping: Free

We were not surprised at all to see glowing customer reviews for everything Di Bruno Bros. sells. Amazing taste, excellent pairings, and superb attention to customer satisfaction are just a few of the compliments we saw from happy Di Bruno Bros. customers. With an iron-clad guarantee for every order - "We will promptly refund your money, re-ship or replace your order, or make any other arrangements to uphold our devotion to quality and a positive experience for you" - there's no downside to the clubs offered by these cheese experts. Just be sure to contact them within 48 hours of receipt if there is any issue with the shipment.

Simply put, it's hard to find a cheese club better than Di Bruno Bros. We highly recommend them for your cheese club membership - for a lucky recipient or for yourself.

Cost:

From $35.83 to $39.99 per month

iGourmet offers a lower priced international cheese of the month club along with several other food and beverage gifts. The website lacks some professionalism and we struggled at first to find the cheese clubs among the food gifts available. We liked that iGourmet provides a newsletter to guide you through the cheese selections of the month but had concerns about the flexibility of the membership to meet most budget needs.

Each month you can anticipate 3 half pound selections of cheese delivered to the doorstep. Cheese originate from around the globe and may focus on a particular region of a country or allow for a comparison of different American cheese makers.

Membership Overview:

  • Cheese Origin: Robust global selections
  • Duration: 3, 6, 12 months
  • Frequency: Monthly only
  • Shipping: Included

iGourmet primarily focuses on providing gourmet food and not club memberships. As such the website lacks important information regarding the packaging and expectations of sending a cheese club membership to family, friend or business relationship. This is also evident in the lack of plan flexibility in frequency, duration and payment plans. The only benefit to purchasing an iGourmet cheese club membership is the reduced cost but otherwise iGourmet lacks some necessary bells and whistles to win our approval.

However, not all cheese clubs are alike and it's important to understand the policies before you sign up. Important aspects of a cheese club membership to be aware of are:

  • Flexibility. Will you be able to select the length of membership and frequency that fits your needs and budget?
  • Cost. What can you expect to pay for the cheese club that best meets your needs? Can you make monthly payments or is a flat fee required?
  • Satisfaction Policy. If you aren't happy with the timeliness, quality or taste are you able to stop the membership and receive any portion of the cost back?
