Chegg

CHEGG

Chegg is a strong option for saving money by renting college textbooks. The average college student who purchases all their textbooks from Chegg saves $500 or more a year on books. Chegg also believes in supporting the environment that they plant a tree for every book purchased. Flexible rental programs makes Chegg a good fit for many students but Chegg does not offer new books for sale.

Campus Book Rentals

CAMPUS BOOK RENTALS

If you have decided to rent your college textbooks, Campus Book Rentals is an online book store to consider. They have competitive rental prices and make the rental process as easy as possible for you. They do not offer the option to buy and sell, which provides a little less flexibility than some companies but the return policy is good.

Textbookx

TEXTBOOKX

Textbookx has a long history of selling books online but lacks many of the student friendly policies of companies ranked higher. The website functionality is decent but the variation on seller means policy and shipping changes. If you're only looking for used books, Textbookx is worth a shot but prices should be compared to other companies ranked higher.

Textbook Underground

TEXTBOOK UNDERGROUND

Textbook Underground sells and rents new and used textbooks. They have a helpful return policy and allow renters to take notes in rented books. With a lower than average selection and slightly higher price structure than higher rated competitors, Textbook Underground only ranks middle of the road.

Book Byte

BOOK BYTE

Maintaining it's family-style approach to business, Book Byte strives to provide fast, honest and reliable service to it's customers. Book Byte offers the options of buying and selling textbooks through their website. We found the delivery time was a little longer than those higher ranked and could create some issues for those starting school without their necessary resources. We also didn't like that Book Byte doesn't rent books which, is generally, the best way to save money.

Textbook Solutions

TEXTBOOK SOLUTIONS

Textbook Solutions is a textbook rental website that was founded by two college graduates that were fed up with the high cost of textbooks. Textbook Solutions offers access to millions of titles for low prices and minimal risk. But in comparison to the competition, Textbook Solutions is a pretty basic no-frills company with some limited options.

Valore Books

VALORE BOOKS

ValoreBooks serves as a middleman for people wanting to buy, sell, or rent textbooks: connecting customers with sellers but not carrying any inventory themselves. While their prices are very competitive - guaranteed to be the lowest available - we found numerous complaints describing very late shipping, orders cancelled unexpectedly and expensive return shipping costs. If you need a textbook within a particular timeframe, you may want to look elsewhere, especially if your classes have already started.

eCampus

E CAMPUS

eCampus offers the alternatives of buying new, used and digital textbooks and selling textbooks directly through eCampus. They also offer a Marketplace, giving you a platform to directly buy and sell your textbooks with other college students Nationwide. They have a similar return policy as the other companies reviewed, but are the only company that charges a restocking fee for returns. Rental fees also run a little more expensive than those higher ranked.

Continued from above

If you're interested in saving money, online college textbook stores are the way to go. However, not all college textbook stores offer the same options, and some have a lot of fine print in their rental contracts that you may not notice.

There are a number of factors you should consider before making your next college textbook purchase. Some of these include:

  • Selection. Will you find the college textbook you're looking for quickly?
  • Return Policy. Can you end your college textbook rental agreement or return the textbook if the class is cancelled or dropped?
  • Options. Will you be able to rent, purchase, or sell your college textbooks as needed?
  • Prices. How do the college textbook rental and purchase prices compare to the competition?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best College Textbook stores available today. We hope these reviews help you save time and money finding the right college textbooks!
