Who's the best credit repair company? Most Americans know that a good credit score and credit history are important. That one number, your credit score, can determine your ability to get a loan for school or for a car, be approved as a tenant, or to qualify for a credit card.

Unfortunately, when your credit history is less than fantastic - because of making payments after the due date, having too many credit inquiries, or even having mistaken information associated with your identity - you'll have fewer options when you need to make a major purchase. You may even have to pay higher than average rates on your car insurance or your mortgage.

Cost:

First work fees of $99 or $195, depending on the selected package

Monthly fees of $59.99 to $99.99, depending on the selected package

Credit Saint believes in credit restoration, not just repair. Their goal is to help you move forward financially through a detailed analysis of your credit history, methodical steps to challenge and dispute negative items, and rebuild good credit.

All of their programs work in a 45-day cycle. It starts when you sign up for any one of Credit Saint's packages: you'll receive 3 credit reports that you then need to fax, mail, or email to the company for analysis. From there, your results will depend on the plan you select.

Credit Saint has three creatively-named packages for their repair services:

  • Polish: with an initial fee of $99 and monthly fees of $59.99, this is known as the "moderately aggressive" plan. It includes debt validation and challenges of late payments, identity theft, charge-offs, collections, and inquiries.
  • Remodel: you'll pay an initial fee of $99 and monthly fees of $79.99 for the "highly aggressive" plan. You get the features of the "Polish" plan, along with an escalated timeframe for information requests, plus challenges on bankruptcies and repossessions.
  • Clean Slate: for an initial fee of $195 and monthly billing of $99.99, you'll have access to the "very highly aggressive" service tier. This includes challenges on judgments, as well as a "dispute avalanche" (that they don't actually explain anywhere we could find on the site).

As we browsed the site, we got a pop-up offer of a $15 discount on our initial fees if we signed up for more information.

Credit Saint offers a money-back guarantee that is above-average: if you don't see any negative items deleted from your credit history in the first 90 days of service, you are eligible to request a full refund of any fees paid. Customers should expect it to take up to two months for those deletions to start appearing in their online portal, and the terms of the guarantee require the client to send in any requested documentation or other updates in a timely fashion.

For the most part, Credit Saint's reputation is good: accreditation and an "A+" rating with the Better Business Bureau is strong evidence that they're helping people repair their credit in a way that is trustworthy and effective. There are also almost no negative reviews registered at the BBB for this company, which is impressive for a business that has been around for over 14 years. We found a few reviews that expressed frustration with Credit Saint's higher-than-average fees for credit repair services, but the company is very transparent with what you'll pay. We would like to see a clearer explanation of all of their services, particularly the "dispute avalanche".

Compared with most of the credit repair services currently being offered, Credit Saint is a choice you can trust to take care of your financial recovery plan.

Cost:

$29/month

No setup fees

eCreditAttorney's pricing is simple: $29 per month. For that fee, your credit repair service should include addressing late payments, collections, bankruptcies, tax liens, repossessions, judgments, foreclosures, charge-offs, garnishment, even identity theft/fraud. You're expected to provide a current copy of your most recent, updated credit report; it's not included with the fees that you pay. Side note: the link provided by eCreditAttorney for their "preferred credit score provider" took us to an invalid page - not very encouraging.

This provider offers a "performance-based refund policy": after you've been a client in good standing for 6 months, you can request a full evaluation of any progress they've made in repairing your credit. For every improvement or deletion they've made, eCreditAttorney will count it as a $95 value. If the total of monthly fees you've paid exceeds the value of $95 per improved/deleted item, you'll get a refund of the difference. Do the math, because that's not a fantastic deal: at $29/month, eCreditAttorney would only have to make two improvements or deletions over the course of 6 months to demonstrate adequate "performance".

eCreditAttorney has a rock-bottom rating with the Better Business Bureau: F. According to the BBB, the provider has failed to respond to numerous customer complaints in the past three years. Customers describe getting no response from anyone at the company, even after multiple emails and phone calls, and worse - no progress on improving their credit reports after months of paying fees. Why would anyone entrust their credit repair to a company that can't even do a minimal job of keeping their customers - and the BBB - satisfied? You'll have a more positive experience with another service.

Continued from above

Using a reputable credit repair company puts you back in control of your financial reputation. These services work on your behalf to reduce or eliminate any negative factors in your credit history, working directly with collection agencies, creditors, and even with the three primary credit bureaus. With the help of a credit repair company, you can improve your score and even put a stop to negative information being reported on your accounts. Most services take several months before you see measurable results on your credit report, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

With so many services advertised in the media and online, how can you tell if a credit repair company is reputable and effective? As you compare the various providers, here are several criteria to keep in mind:

  • Reputation. What do past and current users of the credit repair service have to say about the experience? Is the company accredited and/or rated by the Better Business Bureau?
  • Cost. What will you pay to fix your credit history? Should you expect a one-time fee or a monthly payment structure? How do the costs compare with other providers'?
  • Guarantee. Does the credit repair service guarantee that they will improve your credit score and/or history? Can you get a refund if you are unhappy with their service for any reason?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best credit repair companies available today. We hope this information helps you find the right credit repair program that meets your needs and gets you on your way to an improved credit history!
