THE CREDIT PROS

The Credit Pros advertise themselves as "a financial technology firm dedicated to improving the lives of [their] clients". They do this through helping them remove inaccurate, unverified, and/or erroneous information from their credit history and by offering education to help prevent similar mistakes going forward.

If you'd like to get a feel for what to expect from The Credit Pros, you can get a free credit score and summary, along with an action plan, by entering your name, number, and email address. You'll then be contacted for your free initial consultation. We found some customers who described that experience as frustrating, with representatives who spoke too fast and didn't take the time to answer questions - but since it's free, there's no risk for you to give it a try for yourself.

Their services are definitely not free - and are actually some of the highest in the industry. Here's what you should expect, depending on which plan you choose:

  • Monthly enrollment: initial fees of $179 for an individual or $279 for a couple, plus monthly fees of $99 or $159, respectively
  • Pay For Results enrollment: initial fees of $379/individual or $529/couple, then fees of $100 for each confirmed deletion per bureau or $150 for deletions from public records

All plans include 1-on-1 consultations with a certified FICO professional, unlimited disputes, letters to creditors, and pulling your credit report. You should expect it to take up to 60 days to receive your credit report - which also means that you may not see any changes to your credit history for the first two months that you're a client. Keep that in mind as you decide whether you want to be a per-month or pay-as-you-go customer

The Credit Pros have some indicators of a good reputation: an "A+" rating as an accredited business with the BBB, along with some positive customer comments. We also like that they offer a solid satisfaction/refund policy: you can cancel your service at any time, and you can get a full refund if they don't force the removal of any errors on your credit history within the first 90 days of your service.

The Credit Pros also have a very current website. Unlike some of our lower-ranked credit repair services, this provider keeps their blog updated with helpful information and articles, which means that they stay aware of current trends in consumer credit, changes to the law, and so forth.

On the other hand, we found that their client reviews were not all positive. You pay a lot for this service, so you expect to have measurable results and competent customer service, but many of the complaints we found said that the attention received after signing on the dotted line was very different from the sales pitch beforehand. Company reps seemed to respond almost exclusively to compliments online, but we didn't see the same attention given to address problems or complaints.

The Credit Pros are more trustworthy than some credit repair services that you may consider, but their high fees and mixed reviews may lead you to choose another provider.

E CREDIT ATTORNEY

eCreditAttorney's pricing is simple: $29 per month. For that fee, your credit repair service should include addressing late payments, collections, bankruptcies, tax liens, repossessions, judgments, foreclosures, charge-offs, garnishment, even identity theft/fraud. You're expected to provide a current copy of your most recent, updated credit report; it's not included with the fees that you pay. Side note: the link provided by eCreditAttorney for their "preferred credit score provider" took us to an invalid page - not very encouraging.

This provider offers a "performance-based refund policy": after you've been a client in good standing for 6 months, you can request a full evaluation of any progress they've made in repairing your credit. For every improvement or deletion they've made, eCreditAttorney will count it as a $95 value. If the total of monthly fees you've paid exceeds the value of $95 per improved/deleted item, you'll get a refund of the difference. Do the math, because that's not a fantastic deal: at $29/month, eCreditAttorney would only have to make two improvements or deletions over the course of 6 months to demonstrate adequate "performance".

eCreditAttorney has a rock-bottom rating with the Better Business Bureau: F. According to the BBB, the provider has failed to respond to numerous customer complaints in the past three years. Customers describe getting no response from anyone at the company, even after multiple emails and phone calls, and worse - no progress on improving their credit reports after months of paying fees. Why would anyone entrust their credit repair to a company that can't even do a minimal job of keeping their customers - and the BBB - satisfied? You'll have a more positive experience with another service.

Best Credit Repair Companies

To help you find the Best Credit Repair Services, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of The Credit Pros and E Credit Attorney.

Who's the best credit repair company? Most Americans know that a good credit score and credit history are important. That one number, your credit score, can determine your ability to get a loan for school or for a car, be approved as a tenant, or to qualify for a credit card.

Unfortunately, when your credit history is less than fantastic - because of making payments after the due date, having too many credit inquiries, or even having mistaken information associated with your identity - you'll have fewer options when you need to make a major purchase. You may even have to pay higher than average rates on your car insurance or your mortgage.

Using a reputable credit repair company puts you back in control of your financial reputation. These services work on your behalf to reduce or eliminate any negative factors in your credit history, working directly with collection agencies, creditors, and even with the three primary credit bureaus. With the help of a credit repair company, you can improve your score and even put a stop to negative information being reported on your accounts. Most services take several months before you see measurable results on your credit report, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

With so many services advertised in the media and online, how can you tell if a credit repair company is reputable and effective? As you compare the various providers, here are several criteria to keep in mind:

  • Reputation. What do past and current users of the credit repair service have to say about the experience? Is the company accredited and/or rated by the Better Business Bureau?
  • Cost. What will you pay to fix your credit history? Should you expect a one-time fee or a monthly payment structure? How do the costs compare with other providers'?
  • Guarantee. Does the credit repair service guarantee that they will improve your credit score and/or history? Can you get a refund if you are unhappy with their service for any reason?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best credit repair companies available today. We hope this information helps you find the right credit repair program that meets your needs and gets you on your way to an improved credit history!

Choosing a Credit Repair Company

If your credit score needs some professional help here's how to search for a quality credit repair company.

Start at the Computer
Searching online for a credit repair company provides many benefits in finding and choosing the right service provider for you and here's why:

  • If you do your credit repair research online you avoid the annoying sales pitch from a pushy salesman that is most concerned about their next commission check.
  • Perform your research when it's most convenient for you, in the quiet of your home and without children playing or co-workers nearby.
  • The internet allows you to quickly identify the services of several credit repair companies at once. If you are looking for credit dispute offerings plus advice on how to improve your credit score long term you can easily identify what companies offer this level of service.
  • Knowing what several companies charge for their repair services provides you the knowledge to make an educated decision. Feel confident that you are improving your financial outlook and doing so while saving money over other providers.
  • The internet will allow you to read and educate yourself on the Fair Credit Reporting Act that governs credit agencies, promotes accuracy in reporting and regulates how negative information is reported and disputed.

Look for These Characteristics
When searching for the best credit repair company look for the following characteristics in a quality company before making your selection:

  • Make sure you identify a credit repair company with a solid reputation before considering it a worthy contender. Look for red flags like promises to wipe your credit clean with little effort, a request for a large payment upfront to cover costs, or discussions of creating a new identifier to fool the credit agencies.
  • Make sure you understand what you're signing up for. Will you be obligated to use the service for a specified period of time? Do they identify rules on how many disputes they will file in a specific period? Make sure you read the fine print and understand their policies before moving forward.
  • When you're working closely with your credit repair service you'll appreciate the convenience of companies that offer an online account for you to monitor the status of their efforts. Companies that require a lot of hand holding, phone calls, and emails are not going to be efficient.
  • You'll want credit repair company that puts the customer first. Companies that fail to return calls timely or are unprofessional on the phone are going to wear thin over time. Make sure you identify if your credit repair company of choice prioritizes the customer.
