If you’re looking for curtains and draperies to complete your home you may already know that the in-store selection is often very limited and buying custom can cost a fortune. We’ve actually known people that spent as much on draperies as they did their first home. The price can be startling.

For those looking for quality made panels, curtains and valances that look and feel expensive another option exists. People are finding that buying custom draperies online can provide a huge savings over their local décor shop or custom drapery outfit. However, the process is very similar. Find the look you want, order a sample swatch of material, compare it to your paint and overall look and place the order.

WAYFAIR

As you may have heard, Wayfair prides itself on carrying "a zillion things home", and its offerings in the curtains category are broad: nearly 4,500 products from which to choose, and an extremely easy-to-use website that allows users to sort by length, color, pattern, features, price, special offers, and even unique themes. Some of their curtains have a five-star customer rating with more than 125 customer reviews.

For shoppers in a hurry, some window treatments can be delivered in as few as two days. Wayfair offers a flat fee of $4.99 on any shipment under $49, and free shipping on all other orders. Their return policy is generous at 30 days, and they give customers an automatic 3% back in in-store rewards on all purchases. The return policy is not an exchange policy, like many of the custom order companies but an actual return policy.

While we’ve had good luck with Wayfair in the past, we did find more than a few customer complaints related to issues with Wayfair and some of their products. Wayfair does offer many low priced products and sometimes when you pay less you get less. A good rule of thumb with shopping anywhere is that the product is super cheap you run the risk of getting what you paid for. This holds true with Wayfair’s curtain selection but thankfully they offer a generous return policy should you not be satisfied with your purchase.

LINENS N CURTAINS

India-based LinensNCurtains has very few products to offer with respect to curtains. At the time of this review, there were only 34 total products from which to choose, in very limited styles and colors. While LinesNCurtains talks about their customization options on bedding that does not seem to apply to curtains and draperies.

LinensNCurtains does offer free shipping on orders over $50; customers should be aware that all orders ship from India and delivery times may be delayed. They also offer a referral program to encourage customers to spread the word.

Unfortunately, contacting LinensNCurtains is possible only through a Gmail address or the site's contact form; there is no toll-free number for customer service or for returns. Their return policy only applies to flawed merchandise and may be difficult to arrange through the website alone; any returns must be shipped back to India at the customer's expense. There are no returns allowed on products that do not fit because the customer mismeasured window dimensions or simply changed his mind.

While there are some positive reviews posted in the testimonials section of the website, LinensNCurtains has very few reviews in any other location online and they have no rating or accreditation with the Better Business Bureau.

Because it offers so few options with respect to both products and customer service, LinensNCurtains fell low on our list of potential online curtain stores.

Instead of spending thousands of dollars, savvy shoppers are spending far less.A number of online companies exist that offer a huge selection of custom or ready-made curtains and panels that far exceeds anything found local. When shopping for curtains you need to remember that not all online stores are the same. Before making your next drapery purchase, consider the following:

Selection. Does the company provide a wide selection of draperies and fabrics to choose from?
Prices. How do the prices compare to other stores? Will you get the best value for your money?
Return policy. If you're not happy with your drapery purchase once it arrives, or if it doesn’t fit, can you return it for your money back?
