Cost:

Starts at $22/month

Bark was created with the goal of making dogs as happy as they make their people, through providing the world's best products and experiences for our four-legged friends (and us too!).

Their Dog Treat Club is called BarkBox, and each box typically comes with 2 toys, 2 treats and 1 chew. Usually, items in each shipment are selected to go along with a certain theme: a New York City box had a Lady Liberty toy ball, treats called "Central Pork Pizza", and a plush dumpling toy for hiding treats, for example. Your dog won't get the joke, but you'll be laughing as you see how BarkBox ties together themes like Bento & Blossoms, Sniffin' Safari, and Chewrassic Bark.

BarkBox is happy to customize your shipments to be the best fit for your pup: if you want more (or fewer) of a particular item, specific toy features, or need to avoid certain ingredients/allergens, the "Happy Team" at Bark is glad to connect with you and tailor your deliveries to your needs.

What does it cost to subscribe to BarkBox? That depends on if you're buying for yourself or as a gift (though we're not sure why the price difference there). Your own subscription plan can be for 1, 6, or 12 months; you'll pay $29, $25 or $22 per month, respectively. Gift subscriptions can be sent for anywhere from $35 for a single delivery to $249 for a full year of treats, toys and more. The gift plans can also be on a 3-month or 6-month plan.

Although BarkBox doesn't come with a spelled-out refund policy, their satisfaction guarantee says that if there's anything in your box that doesn't wind up being a good fit - a toy gets chewed through too easily, or your dog doesn't like a particular flavor of treats - they promise to make it right.

We want to point out that BarkBox, as a larger company, gets its fair share of complaints. Even with an "A+" rating from the Better Business Bureau, there were still more than 200 registered complaints there at the time of our review. Almost all of them are regarding subscription issues: customers who didn't realize their plan would renew automatically, or who had problems cancelling their subscription. But, the strong reputation with the BBB indicates that BarkBox's "Happy Team" is doing an appropriate job at responding to all customer concerns. We just recommend that you keep an eye on your subscription, being sure to read all of the terms and conditions carefully and taking note of when you'd need to cancel before it renews automatically.

BarkBox is affordable, friendly and fun. Customers love the monthly themes, and all signs indicate that the actual recipients - yes, the dogs! - think that the treats and toys are reliably a hit. This is a good choice for the average pet lover who wants a reliable Dog Treat Club.

Continued from above

Dog Treat Clubs also make a fantastic gift for those people on your gift-giving list who seem to already have everything they could want for themselves. You won't win them over with a boring gift card or another fruit basket, but watch their eyes light up when they get another package in the mail full of novel chews and tug toys for Rover. Most of these membership subscriptions can be easily gifted for the length of time you prefer, from a one-off shipment to monthly deliveries.

When you start to compare the various Dog Treat Clubs out there today, it's easy to get overwhelmed by all of the options. To find the subscription service that's the right fit for your pet or for your gift recipient's furry friend, here are several criteria to help you "sniff out" the perfect one:

  • Contents. What do you get with each delivery? How many toys and treats are in the typical box? Do they give you a good value for your money, or are they items you could easily find at a dollar store or local big-box retailer?
  • Cost. What will you spend for your Dog Treat Club? Is there a discount if you pay in advance or if you buy a long-term subscription? Is shipping included in the monthly fee?
  • Flexibility. Do you have a range of options, both for payment and delivery schedules? Can you skip a month as needed? What if you want to change the size of the products partway through your subscription term (e.g. to get a few deliveries for each dog in your home)?
  • Reputation. What do other customers say about their experience with the Dog Treat Club? Does the company do a good job of keeping their customers happy, especially with a strong satisfaction guarantee or return policy? Has the business been rated by the BBB?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best Dog Treat Clubs available today. We hope this information helps you find the right subscription box to delight all the puppies, doggies, and fur babies in your life for months to come!
