DOG TRAINING TUTOR

Originally starting as a kennel worker at age 11, Kobie Lawson offers his expertise gained over the years as a professional dog trainer - The Dog Training Tutor

The Dog Training Tutor package includes four parts:

  • The Dog Training Tutor, a 132-page book available via digital download
  • Instinct vs. Man multimedia package, a 35-minute audiovisual presentation
  • Secrets to a Healthy and Happy Pooch, a 126-page first aid and healthcare book focused on your pet's physical needs
  • How to Spoil Your Dog, a 48-page book

Within these guides, you'll get a better idea for how to address common behavioral issues with dogs, such as:

  • Stopping domineering behavior
  • Training the dog to walk on the leash without fear
  • Preventing jumping up on people
  • Fixing separation anxiety
  • Addressing poop-eating

His main point emphasized throughout his program is that most problems come from not knowing how to communicate effectively with your dog - and when you learn how to speak your dog's "language", you'll find that your pet wants to be obedient.

Although he doesn't provide a sample chapter or table of contents, the description of topics covered in The Dog Training Tutor definitely give the impression that whatever you and your dog are struggling with, you'll find encouragement and solutions in one of the books in his program.

Other than the testimonials given on The Dog Training Tutor website, we didn't find many reviews of the program. But, if the comments on the site itself are any indication, customers have had success applying the principles that Lawson teaches.

One significant difference between The Dog Training Tutor and other dog training programs is the lack of a free trial. Almost every training system on the market offers some sort of money-back guarantee, and this program is the same in that regard: 60 days to try the program and request a refund. But, that doesn't include the initial $5 you'll have to spend to get a 7-day free trial. If you do like the program, you'll automatically be billed for the remaining payment of $42 after the first week - but if you do request a refund, you'll only get that second payment back. We would have liked to see The Dog Training Tutor allow customers the chance to try the program truly at no risk, to be more competitive with other programs on the market.

NO NONSENSE DOG TRAINING

Self-proclaimed "Canine Behavior Expert" Chad Thompson created No Nonsense Dog Training to help frustrated pet owners change their dogs' behavior for the better - in ten days or less! His program consists of the following:

  • "Become the Respected Leader", an eBook that teaches you how to establish loyalty, respect, and obedience
  • "The Easy Dog Walk", an eBook addressing how to end your dog's pulling on the leash so that you can enjoy your time out with your pet
  • "101 Dog Training Secrets", an eBook to use as an additional resource
  • "Attacking the Root Cause", a 6-week course delivered to your email inbox, one lesson at a time

This course is different from other dog training programs we reviewed primarily in that last component, the 6-week course. As Thompson explains, learning how to train your dog requires a specific process, and many frustrated pet owners rush into trying to address the one behavior that is driving them crazy instead of taking the time to carry out each necessary step for effective dog training. Some customers may like this approach, but others may prefer to have access to the entire course instead of having to wait for emails. We also wondered how the promise of better behavior in ten days or less can be delivered if the course is spread out over six weeks.

We found similar inconsistencies in other places as well. For instance, on the (very long) main page of the site, Myth #2 says that "the average dog owner should NEVER be advised to use [prong] collars." But, as we were reading through the articles offered through the links at the very bottom of the page, we found one entitled "Dog Walking: Pleasure or Pain?" that called prong collars "humane and effective" and gave a detailed explanation as to how the average dog owner can use these collars.

Of course, with a low program cost of $47 and a two-month money-back guarantee, there's no risk to trying No Nonsense Dog Training. But given that Thompson doesn't seem to have a clear idea of the most effective ways to train a dog (e.g prong collars or not?), you might not come away with the best information for solving your pet's issues.

Dog Training

To help you find the Best Dog Training Programs, TopConsumerReviews.com provides you with an in-depth comparison of Dog Training Tutor and No Nonsense Dog Training.

It's estimated that there are over 60 million dog owners in the U.S. Most of them have come to realize that dogs don't come already programmed, without the need for dog training. Just like children, pets need to be taught right from wrong, and how to behave in certain situations.

This can be especially challenging since animals don't speak the same language as humans. There are dozens of dog training resource materials available to you for purchase over the Internet. Some are built on a history of success, while others offer a single person's viewpoint. All have one thing in common - they try to give you an effective way to communicate with your dog.

When looking at all the different dog training programs available today, there are certain factors you need to consider. Some of these include:

  • Effectiveness.  Does the dog training program carry through on its claims? Is there a history of success in using the training?
  • Methods.  Are you comfortable with the dog training methods used? Does it cover the specific dog training needs you require?
  • Cost.  Is the cost of the dog training reasonable for the value it provides? Is there a refund available if you're not satisfied?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best dog training programs available today. We hope this information helps you train your dog right away!

Puppy Training Basics

When it comes to training your puppy, there are a few tips to keep in mind to help guide you through the process. By following a few key points, you can maintain consistent training and avoid letting things get ruff.

If you are using the crate method for housebreaking your puppy, never leave him/her inside of the crate for more than two hours at a time. Puppies cannot control their bathroom habits yet, so make sure to let them out frequently. Your pet will soon grow to understand that he/she should go outside of the home to relieve itself and your housebreaking approach will be a success.

Never use physical punishment as a form of puppy training. This will only result in your pet being afraid or nervous when you are near. Instead, reward good behavior and ignore them if they fail to respond on command. For instance, if you instruct your puppy to "sit", gently push down on his/her backside and repeat the command. When your puppy is seated, reward him/her with a treat and praise. If your pet refuses to sit, walk away and try again in a few minutes. Training takes time and patience, but should never involve your pet being afraid of you.

You can begin training your puppy as early as 8 weeks old. He/she may not respond immediately, but you will be building a foundation for your pet's learning at an early age. Continue working with him/her for short intervals every day and instill positive reinforcement as you train.

Whenever you plan to attempt obedience training with your puppy, make sure that you have his/her favorite treats on hand to serve as a reward. In addition, puppy training should be approached at a time that is calm for both you and your pet. If he/she is anxious about something, it is not likely that the training attempt will be successful. Instead, your puppy should be relaxed and able to focus on the training task at hand.

If you are housebreaking your puppy, be sure to watch him/her closely during the earliest days of training. If you allow your pet to roam freely throughout the house, it is especially important to be mindful of their whereabouts. If your puppy has an "accident" on the carpet, which is possible if he/she is unattended, catching them in the act is the only way to deter future behavior of the same. If you later find the problem spot and you verbally scold your pet, he/she will not understand or associate the "accident" with bad behavior. If you catch them in the act, however, a firm "NO!" will let them know that you are displeased with their actions.

When training your puppy, always be consistent in your commands. For instance, if you are attempting to teach your pet to sit, always use "sit" as your command. Avoid using alternate terms that may confuse your pet and never yell or shout your instructions as this will make your puppy feel as though he/she is being scolded. A normal, instructive tone will be much more effective in your approach to puppy training.

It's important to realize that the amount of obedience training, housebreaking and instruction needed will largely depend on your pet. Some breeds are highly intelligent and may learn quickly according to your puppy training techniques. If your pet does not respond as quickly as you think it should, simply spend additional time working with him/her and you will have a perfectly-trained pup in no time.
