Cost:

From Free to $8.25/month

180 Drums was founded to get drummers from where they're at now to as far as they want to go. Drummers of all skill levels can benefit from what is offered in their video content and podcasts. Users can create a personalized profile through the website to track their progress as they go through the online lessons.

A free access plan is available as well as a premium plan. The free access plan gives you access to over 40 free lessons, access to a private Facebook group, and the ability to create a personal profile. For only $8.25/month, users can sign up for the premium plan and get everything from the free access plan as well as lessons from pro drummers, 500+ exclusive drum lessons, and no ads. If you choose to pay for the premium plan, there is a 100% refund guarantee during the first 90 days of your membership.

You can navigate to an "instructors" page and learn about the 18 professionals that have provided lesson material for the courses. Some of these drummers have worked with artists like Stevie Wonder, the Zac Brown Band, Paramore, Drake, Pink, Ariana Grande, and more. You can view their profiles, how many lessons are available from them through 180 Drums, and how many minutes of teaching videos they have.

We are impressed by how much free material is available for drummers through 180 Drums. You can search through free lessons via the search bar or by topic. The topics include things like grooves, fills, independence, hands, speed, and performance. All of the lessons range from between 3 and 20 minutes each. You can watch the professional drummer play, answer questions, and give tips to you as a student.

Podcasts from 2018 are available under the blog section. Professional drummers were interviewed weekly and a podcast was uploaded. It doesn't seem like the website is being actively updated since the podcasts aren't recent and the copyright is 2 years behind, but the overall lesson content is modern and helpful for individuals who want to gain high quality drum lessons for a low price. vv

Overall, 180 Drums is a good place to go to look for drum lessons. If you aren't ready to commit to paying for their service, the free access plan still comes with a plethora of resources to get learning right away. Their pricing is much less than some other plans we looked at and they have many professional drummers to learn from.

Cost:

$89 one-time fee

There is an extensive list of topics to be covered when it comes to learning to play the drums. In the Learn and Master drum series, they cover a wide range from setting up your drum kit to reading your music. The styles of music taught include rock, funk, blues, jazz, Latin, and reggae. Drum instructor Dann Sherrill demonstrates each style of music throughout the entire course. You can read his extensive bio on the Learn and Master website to learn that he is clearly an expert drummer.

The Learn and Master Drums course is designed for beginners and supports students in their progression to at least an intermediate level. The classes are comprehensive in that they start out slow but gradually get more technical as each lesson builds on itself. In each video, instructor Dann Sherrill demonstrates the drum lessons. Learn and Master suggests taking it slow and rewatching the material until you feel comfortable enough to move forward. Within a week, Dann says students are typically able to play the beats to hundreds of songs.

By providing your email address and name through the website, you will receive the free "Learn & Master Drum Secrets" email series. Dann Sherrill himself will send tips straight to your inbox to boost your drumming knowledge.

To purchase the entire course, you pay $89. The cost can be divided into 3 or 4 payments through an installment plan, with a surcharge of $4 with each payment. A generous 60-day money back guarantee is in place if you are not satisfied with the product you receive. If you run into questions about the Learn and Master Drums course during your shopping experience, you can chat online with a customer service representative or call their toll free number.

Learn and Master is a good option for beginning drum students. The videos aren't modern, but they aren't so outdated that it's hard to watch them or feel like they are relevant. The price of the course is much less expensive than in-person lessons and students can go at their own pace and learn from the comfort of their homes. Learn and Master is thorough with everything offered, and therefore receives a good recommendation from us.

Continued from above

Online drum lessons come in the form of DVDs, downloads, or CD instructions. This is an appealing option for anyone wanting to save money, practice techniques on their own schedule, and learn to play the drums from the comfort of their own home.

Not all online drum lessons are created equal. When browsing through your options, consider the following things to ensure an effective purchase:

  • Cost. Are you receiving comprehensive lessons for the price you are paying? Make sure the lessons meet you at your skill level and provide enough material to make you better than when you started.
  • Product format. Will you be able to download your lessons onto your laptop? iPad? Cell phone? Practicing your drum set while viewing your online course needs to be convenient in order for it to be effective.
  • Return policy. You can't know exactly what your drum lessons will be like until you try them out, so if they are a disappointment, you'll want to be able to return the course for a refund.
