Learn and Master

Cost:

$149 one-time fee

Learn and Master was founded to create comprehensive multi-media training tools for those who want to learn at their own speed and from the convenience of their own home. Learn and Master provides piano, guitar, dancing and other training packages. Over $1 million dollars goes into each training guide to create and produce quality materials to insure great results for the consumer.

Dann Sherrill, professional percussionist and drumset player from Nashville, is the drum trainer on each DVD. He goes into great detail on each session's material, including tips, and provides a fun and upbeat attitude. The drum lesson training package includes a well organized set of 12 DVD's, 5 play-along CD's, and a 100 page lesson book.

This product is very fairly priced and makes a great gift for the want-to-be drummer in your life. Learn and Master also offers a payment plan to reduce your cost from one lump payment to either 3 or 4 as you prefer. The cost is a $4 surcharge but we thought this was well worth it.

In the event that you aren't satisfied with the drum lesson training, Learn and Master offers a 60-day return policy for a full refund of the purchase price. Course materials must be in like-new condition with no scratches or markings.

Another nice feature of the Learn and Master drum lesson package is the online community offered through their website. Dan Sherrill is available to answer questions and provide support. Students may also discuss their progress with peers and interact with other students.

For a very competitive price, Learn and Master provides well organized, high quality, leading edge drum lessons geared to meet the specific needs of each individual student. With training provided in DVD format you may easily put a TV right next to your drums and begin your training. This is one of the most professional and effective drum lesson training programs available today.

Drumming Made Easy

Cost:

$497 one-time fee

Our first impressions of Drumming Made Easy were "unprofessional" and "expensive". This site looks homemade and despite their efforts to sell, sell, sell we weren't impressed. The training is geared towards beginners and includes 3 very expensive DVD's, with 6 hours of lessons and 150 page workbook.

The trainer is Mike Ray from Australia. No other information related to his training or credentials was made available.

Unique to this training is that your credit card will be charged again automatically in 12 months if you don't cancel. You're being charged for membership to this site. Another scary aspect of this product is that the purchase agreement clearly states that you will be contacted from telemarketers if you buy this product.

If you aren't satisfied with your purchase you may return within 60 days for a full refund minus $20.00 for shipping and handling.

While we liked the prospect of receiving physical training materials we had serious concerns with regard to the price of this product and the uneasy feeling we received from reading the purchase agreement and what it entailed. We recommend you choose a more professional, straightforward product for your drum lesson needs.

However, other methods of learning the drums have recently become available that are both flexible and cost effective. You can now find good quality drum lesson instruction on the internet.

The format of drum lessons that you can purchase over the internet include DVD's, CD's, downloaded instructions, and online training videos. With these type of lessons, you can learn the drums at your own pace and on your own schedule. One thing you should keep in mind is that not all drum training is the same or effective. Many companies make lofty promises to train you quickly and with little work.

Before you buy one of these packages of drum lessons, you should consider a number of items. Some of these include:

  • Who's selling the drum lessons and what will you receive? If you're expected to watch a video from your PC and then turn to play the drums, is that going to work for you?
  • Cost. How much will you have to pay for your drum lessons? How does that cost compare to other top providers?
  • Return policy. If you aren't satisfied with your drum lessons, can you get your money back?
