Exercise Bikes in California

California residents need not pay a monthly membership to the gym to receive a good workout; they can now do a low-impact exercise at home with exercise equipment that takes little space, is gentler on the joints than aerobics or running, and provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. Exercise bikes are one of the most popular and effective choices when becoming physically fit.

Two basic types of exercise bikes are available. The upright is built more like a traditional bicycle, with a padded saddle-style seat, pedals placed directly underneath the body, and hand positioning in front. This may deliver a more complete workout to the upper leg muscles. The recumbent style has a bigger, chair-like seat the supports the back and offers extra stability to the rider. The rider cycles from a reclined position, and since lumbar and buttocks are fully supported, little pressure is felt on the cyclist's back. The pedals are located out in front of the rider. The recumbent type of exercise bike is most comfortable for people with back problems and those who suffer from arthritis or orthopedic conditions.

When considering purchasing an exercise bike, California residents have many different models available for review and purchase through the internet. While researching the different brands, keeping a few factors in mind will ensure finding the perfect stationary bike. Cost is the first factor. Exercise bikes range in price from $200 to $3,300. The lower priced models will offer fewer features, while higher priced brands will come with more bells and whistles.

The exercise bike needs to offer stability, control, and convenience in operating. Some of the most basic features include option to vary resistance levels and the ability to adjust the seat quickly and easily. Higher priced models may include such features as hi-tech LED display console and wireless heart-rate monitor. Another consideration is weight capacity. Most exercise bikes allow up to 300 pounds; some models allow for more. And finally, the warranty should be evaluated. A good warranty would offer at least a year coverage on parts and frames, as well as labor provisions. Reviewing these different factors will help to find the exercise bike that would be ideal.

Exercise bikes offer a low-stress, easy option to become more physically fit.
