A general understanding of the types of exercise bike is beneficial before beginning to shop for one. Upright exercise bikes are the most well-known type, because they are similar to an outdoor bicycle. Featuring a padded, saddle-style seat, the pedals of this bike are located below the seat and handlebars are out in front. This type of bike may give the gluteal muscles the best workout because the hips extend through the rotation of the cycle.

Recumbent exercise bikes are a little larger in size, and this style will take up more space than a small upright bike. The recumbent has a large, chair-like seat that supports the back and offers increased stability, putting the rider in a reclining position. The rider's weight is evenly distributed over a larger area, with back and buttocks fully supported. The placement of the seat pedals out in front of the rider put little pressure on the back. This type of exercise bike is perfect for those with back problems, arthritis, orthopedic problems, or who more than 50 pounds overweight are.

The options in an exercise bike are many. If space is a factor, it is easy for Nevada residents to find one that can be stowed comfortably away when not in use.
