Ohio residents are finding that there are many benefits to working out on an exercise bike. In addition to the excellent cardiovascular exercise that can be achieved, exercise bikes deliver a gentle, low-impact workout that doesn't jar hips, knees, and ankles. Exercise bikes have settings to increase or decrease cycling resistance, depending on the intensity the rider needs. And, many exercise bikes even monitor how many calories the cyclist is burning during the ride. This feature has proven to be invaluable for those who are dieting. With so many benefits, it is not surprising that many people in Ohio are gravitating toward exercise bikes as a way to reach fitness goals.
There are two main kinds of exercise bikes. The recumbent bike is generally larger, with a comfortable, chair-like seat that supports the back and offers increased stability. The seat puts the rider in a reclined position, with weight evenly distributed over a larger area. The rider's back and buttocks are fully supported, and the foot pedals that are placed in front of the rider ensure that very little pressure is put on the back. Due to the reclined position and excellent lumbar support, the recumbent bike puts very little stress on the spine. These features make this type of bike ideal for persons with back problems, arthritis, or other orthopedic conditions.
The upright exercise bike is similar to a traditional outdoor bicycle. It offers a small padded seat, handlebars out in front of the bike, and pedals that are placed directly underneath the body. The upright bike may give the gluteal muscles a more thorough workout, since the cyclist's legs extend fully through the rotation of the cycle.
Exercise bikes offer an excellent way to get a good cardiovascular workout, maintain ideal weight, and become physically fit.
