Exercise Bikes in Pennsylvania

Riding an exercise bike for thirty minutes a day, five times a week, may extend life. In addition to improved health and longevity, many people in Pennsylvania are finding that having an exercise bike at home has many benefits. Exercise bikes deliver a low-impact workout that puts minimal stress on spine, hips, knees, and ankles. And, riding an exercise bike can be done at any time, regardless of outside weather. Many Pennsylvania residents are currently enjoying the benefits from working out at home on an exercise bike.

There are two basic types of exercise bikes; the recumbent and the upright. Recumbent bikes are generally larger, with a chair-like seat that supports the back and offers more stability. The rider is in a reclining position, with feet on pedals that are out in front of the bike. Cyclist's weight is evenly distributed over a larger area, with back and buttocks fully supported. The placement of the foot pedals is designed to exert little pressure on the back. The recumbent bike is often recommended by physical therapists to their patients, and is also great for people who have back problems, are more than fifty pounds overweight, or suffer from arthritis.

Upright exercise bikes are similar to a traditional bicycle in that they have the rider sitting upright on a smaller padded seat. The foot pedals are placed directly underneath the body, with the handlebars out in front. This style of bike may work the gluteal muscles better than a recumbent bike because the rider can fully extend the hips through the cycle rotation.

With either type of exercise bike, some basic features need to be in place before a purchase is made. The bike needs to be sturdy and able to withstand intense cycling without wobbling, shaking, or moving. The weight limit also needs to be taken into consideration, to ensure that the rider is below the stated requirement. In addition, all exercise bikes need to have a warranty in place. The best warranties are for a year or more and cover parts, frame, and labor. Paying attention to these requirements will help to find the ideal exercise bike.

Exercise bikes are increasing in popularity, due to the many benefits that come from regularly cycling on them.
