Exercise Bikes in Arizona

Arizona MapWhen the weather is over 100 degrees in Arizona, the heat doesn't need to prevent residents from completing their daily workout regime. While going to the air-conditioned gym is comfortable, it also comes with a monthly membership fee. A less expensive and easier option is to ride an exercise bike at home.

There are two main kinds of exercise bikes. The first is the upright, which is just as the name indicates, putting the rider in the upright position on a saddle type seat. The pedals are straight below the rider's body, with the hand-grips out in front. This type of bike may give a more intense workout. The second type is the recumbent style, which has the rider in a reclining position, with a bigger, chair-like seat which distributes weight evenly and has pedals out in front. This style is ideal for those riders with arthritis, orthopedic concerns, or poor balance. The internet provides research and purchasing access to multiple models of both types of these exercise bikes.

Arizonans need 150 minutes of a moderate intensity workout per week, according to The Center for Disease Control Prevention. This requirement can be met by riding a stationary bike, which strengthens the heart to pump more blood, increasing the amount of good cholesterol and lowering bad cholesterol. This exercise also strengthens the lungs by increasing the body's ability to utilize oxygen. In addition, this low-impact workout reduces impact injuries to knees, hips, and ankles. Many people consider riding an exercise bike to be one of the best forms of workout.

Before purchasing an exercise bike, the following factors should be considered: cost, features, and warranty. Cost can range from $200 - $3,300, depending on choice of features. Features may include resistance types, built-in workout programs, hi-tech LED display console, and heart-monitors. Most models with longer warranties include coverage on parts and frames.

Arizona residents have a wide variety of options available to them when it comes to selecting an exercise bike.
