Exercise Bikes in Georgia

Georgia MapGeorgia residents are able to participate in a low-impact workout at home, thanks to exercise bikes. The advantages of a low-impact workouts are being felt by individuals who appreciate the benefits of reduced stress on knees, hips, and ankles. Those with arthritis or back pain have found exercise bikes to deliver the perfect form of gentle physical activity. Exercise bikes have long been a favorite of those who participate in a regular physical fitness program.

The best choice for an individual with orthopedic conditions or back problems is the recumbent bike. This exercise bike features a bigger, chair-like seat that supports the back and offers increased stability. The rider is in a reclined position, with weight evenly distributed over a larger area. The supportive seat offers lumbar support, and the position of the pedals out in front of the cyclist puts little pressure on the back. Physical therapists often recommend riding a recumbent bike as part of the rehabilitation process for those in recovery from surgery or injury.

An upright bike is built more in the style of a typical bicycle, with a padded saddle seat and the pedals placed directly underneath the body. Handlebars are located in front, and the rider sits upright. This model may work the upper thighs more effectively, since the rider can fully extend the hips.

Exercise bikes are considered one of the safest types of exercise equipment. Still, a few precautions should be taken when using a stationary bike. Make sure that the bike is stable and doesn't wobble or shake when being ridden rigorously. Be aware of weight limits on each bike, and confirm that the rider is under the requirement. Also, if small children are present, ensure that the bike has an enclosed chain to prevent fingers and other body parts from becoming pinched. Being aware of these things will help to ensure the safety of the rider and others in the immediate vicinity.

Anyone in Georgia can benefit from riding an exercise bike, even those with chronic health concerns. Check with your doctor to see if using an exercise bike would be right for you.
