Exercise Bikes in Illinois

Illinois MapIllinois residents have many available options when it comes to choosing an exercise bike. Thanks to the wide selection available online, doing a little research can land a rider the bike that has all the desired functions, at just the right price.

Upright exercise bikes are ideal for a beginning cyclist who is in moderately good to excellent health. Upright bikes are similar to a traditional bicycle in build, with a padded saddle-style seat, pedals placed directly below the seat, and handlebars in front of the bike. These bikes have a wide variety of features available. Basic functions include quiet handling, adjustable workout resistance levels, and a comfortable seat that can be lowered or raised according to the rider's height. More advanced features include built-in cooling fans, iPod connectivity with built-in speakers, and electronic equipment that will measure speed, distance, and calories burned. Many additional options are available with upright exercise bikes, according to the rider's preferences.

Recumbent exercise bikes place the cyclist in a reclined position on a chair-like seat. This larger seat supports the back and offers increased stability. The rider's weight is evenly distributed over a larger area, with back and buttocks being fully supported. The pedals are located out in front of the rider, requiring leg extension. This type of bike is particularly good for people who experience back problems, orthopedic concerns, arthritis, or who are more than 50 pounds overweight. Some features of a recumbent exercise bike may include a wireless heart-rate monitor, a longer warranty, pulse-driven workouts, and a large selection of built-in workout programs. Recumbent exercise bikes offer a wide array of features, with many different combinations.

Before purchasing an exercise bike, the cyclist should consider cost. Compare the different bikes within the preferred price range, and determine which offers the most value for the dollar amount. Also, ensure that the weight limit will not be exceeded by the rider. Finally, confirm that there is a warranty in place. Good warranty coverage includes one year of provisions for parts and service. Keeping these factors in mind will aid in the search for the perfect exercise bike.

Anyone living in the state of Illinois can improve their health and fitness by regularly riding an exercise bike.
