Exercise Bikes in Minnesota

Minnesota MapFor many Minnesota residents, getting out of a warm bed to face a dark snowy street on their bike is less than appealing. The good news is that there is an easier option which can be done in the light, and the rider can stay comfortably warm while achieving their fitness goals.

Exercise bikes are increasing in popularity, as individuals who are serious about fitness save the monthly cost of a gym membership and exercise at home. Benefits of a home exercise bike include being able to multitask while working out and not having to leave the comfort of home to exercise. A cyclist can read a book, check emails, or keep an eye on the kids while getting a good cardiovascular workout, all without walking through the front door. In addition, that monthly fee that would otherwise be applied to the gym membership can be used elsewhere.

Before investing in an exercise bike, riders should be familiar with the basic styles. Recumbent exercise bikes are perfect for people who are more than 50 pounds overweight, suffer from arthritis, or have back problems. The recumbent bike has a large, chair-like seat that provides stability and lumbar support. The rider is in the reclined position, with weight evenly distributed over a larger area. Pedals are located in front of the cyclist, putting minimal pressure on the back. This is the most comfortable style of exercise bike for those with back problems.

An upright exercise bike is similar in build to a traditional bicycle, with a padded saddle seat, handlebars in front, and pedals placed directly underneath. The majority of people are more familiar with this style of bike, and it possibly gives a better workout to the gluteal muscles because the hips fully extend through the cycle.

Minnesota residents need not submit to a grueling, uncomfortable workout plan to get in shape; an exercise bike in the comfort of their own home can provide all the cardiovascular exercise they need for ideal fitness.
