Exercise Bikes in Mississippi

Mississippi MapMississippi ranks # 50 when it comes to healthiest states across the nation. A major factor for this is the high level of obesity among residents, which experts say could be changed with increased activity on the part of individuals. Obesity leads to such conditions as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. On the contrary, maintaining optimal weight significantly reduces an individual's chances of having any chronic disease. Regular participation in an exercise program is one of the best ways to achieve ideal weight.

Many people are finding that riding an exercise bike is the easiest way to get a good cardiovascular workout. Experts suggest at least 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each week as a way to reduce the risk of chronic disease and maintain weight. With the different styles of exercise bikes available, working out need not be strenuous.

There are several different options to consider when it comes to choosing the best exercise bike. A recumbent bike works best for people who are more than 50 pounds overweight. It offers a larger, chair-like seat that supports the back and offers extra stability. The rider is in a reclined position, with weight evenly distributed over a larger area. The recumbent bike provides lumbar support, and the pedals located in front of the cyclist offer support for the feet, putting little pressure on the back. This is also the type of exercise bike recommended for people who have back problems or other orthopedic conditions.

Upright bikes are built more like a traditional bicycle, with a padded saddle seat and pedals placed directly underneath the body. The arms are required to extend forward to grip the handlebars. Upright bikes offer resistance options, enabling the rider to increase the workout intensity as strength is built up. Experts recommend beginning slowly with any exercise bike, and gradually working up to more intense workouts. A good cardiovascular workout system includes riding an exercise bike for 30 minutes each day, 5 days a week.

Mississippi residents can change the ranking of the state when it comes to health issues. It all starts by pedaling.
