Exercise Bikes in Tennessee

Tennessee MapA person living in Tennessee who has been involved in physical therapy following a surgery or injury may have ridden an exercise bike as part of their rehabilitation. Many physical therapists recommend recumbent exercise bikes to their patients, as a way to deliver cardiovascular exercise and strengthen heart, lungs, and legs. Recumbent exercise bikes have a large, chair-like padded seat that supports the back and distributes body weight over a large area. The rider is in a reclining position, with legs extending in front of the bike to rest on foot pedals. Recumbent bikes provide lumbar support while putting minimal stress on the spine. This type of bike is ideal for anyone with back problems, arthritis, or who more than 50 pounds overweight is.

Another popular type of exercise bike is the upright style. This bike is just as the name implies; the rider sits upright on a small padded seat. Handlebars are out in front of the bike, with foot pedals directly below the person's hips. The upright bike may deliver a better workout to the gluteal muscles, since the rider's legs extend fully to complete the cycle.

Before purchasing an exercise bike, the rider needs to be aware of the wide variety of features available. Exercise bikes that are in the price range of $200 come with minimal features, but should include quiet handling, workout resistance, and at least a few programming options. Bikes that are priced slightly higher are usually sturdier and often offer magnetic resistance, built-in workout programs, and heart-rate control. Highest priced models come with more advanced features such as push-button resistance control, a hi-tech LED display console that measures things like distance, speed, and calories burned, a longer warranty, and a greater amount of built-in workout programs. When it comes to exercise bikes, there are many available features in a wide variety of combinations.

Residents of Tennessee have many options available to them when it comes to choosing an ideal workout bike.
