Where can you find the best Eyeglasses? If you have not purchased eyeglasses online before, you may not know just how easy it is to order prescription eyeglasses online. But how can you decide which eyeglass company to use?

Obviously, you want to find quality, affordable eyeglasses that look great on you! A lot of eyeglass companies have really simplified the process of online ordering and explain the steps to order in detail on their websites. 39 Dollar Glasses

39 DOLLAR GLASSES

39 Dollar Glasses has been in business since 2001. One of the nice things about 39 Glasses is that all of the orders are made in their New York laboratory. This means their turnaround time is significantly less than those companies that we reviewed that were based outside of the U.S.

The 39 Dollar Glasses website is easy to navigate and gives you a number of options to search with, including:

  • Gender
  • Frame material
  • Frame shape
  • Frame color
  • Total frame width
  • Temple length
  • Lens type

The price that they advertise for their frames includes thin and lightweight lenses featuring 100% UV protection and anti- scratch coating. Most orders ship within 2-7 business days. Shipping is $4.95 on orders less than $99. Orders $99 and greater have free shipping.

Another feature we liked is their Rewards Program. When you purchase from 39 Dollar Glasses you are automatically enrolled in their Eye Bucks Rewards Program. 4% of your eyeglass purchases will be deposited into your customer account that you can use for money off of your next purchase.

They also have a convenient return policy. If you are unhappy for any reason you may return your eyeglasses for a one-time exchange at no cost or a full store credit for up to 90 days after delivery. Return shipping is free. If you have a shipping charge on your initial order it is non- refundable.

Customer service at 39 Dollar Glasses is only available M-F between 9-5, which isn't as good as some of the other companies we've reviewed that offer 24/7 phone access. However they do a have a virtual customer service agent available 24/7. Also, at the time of this review the FAQ section on the company website was blank. With their limited customer service hours and not being able to go to the FAQ page and get information during the hours that customer service isn't available, their overall customer service not as attractive as the other companies that we reviewed.

We didn't find many customer complaints about 39 Dollar Glasses. Most customers said they felt as thought they have a reasonably priced product and that they respond to customer service and warranty issues in a timey manner.

While 39 Dollar Glasses offers some nice features, including a rewards program, their customer service issues bring their rating down in our review.

GLASSES SPOT

We found the Glasses Spot website to be one of the most confusing websites to navigate. For example, one place it states that they have free shipping on all orders - but then when you click on shipping it states that there is a $9.99 flat rate shipping charge on all orders under $100.

Glasses Spot advertises that they sell 58 name brands of eyeglasses. However when searching specifically for those brands, several only have 1 pair of glasses for a particular brand. At the time of our review it seemed like the website was also having some issues based on the searches we tried to perform. For example, when we clicked on eyeglasses at the top of the screen, only 2 pairs of eyeglasses came up. But if you search on the left side of the screen under frame style it reported there were 3,892 pair of eyeglasses. Frustratingly, though, we were unable to see those pairs.

Glasses Spot has progressive, anti-reflective, transition and polarized lenses. They offer a 14-day money back guarantee, however that is on the frames only and does not cover the lenses. All Deal of the Day purchases are final sales and they will not accept returns on them. Return shipping is also paid by you, the customer.

We also found customer complaints about the production time of their orders. Many reported an order taking several weeks instead of the days that are advertised on their website.

With their misleading "free shipping" claim, along with their almost non-existent eyeglass selection, Glass Spot falls well short compared to the other eyeglass companies that we reviewed. If we were actually able to see the selection of eyeglasses that they advertise we would be able to give them a higher rating.

Continued from above

As you consider the various companies that offer eyeglasses, keep in mind these basic criteria:

  • Selection: How may frames does the company offer? Do they have an easy to navigate website that allows you to easily search for the frame style and lens type that you are looking for?
  • Cost: Which eyeglasses are the best quality for the price? The overall cost of your eyeglasses also includes any shipping or return charges the company may charge as well. When looking at the cost of the eyeglasses you will also want to consider if they offer a warranty on their products.
  • Customer Service: Does the company have a 24/7 customer service number that you can call? Are their hours going to be conducive to your schedule if you need to contact them? Do they have a virtual customer service representative available 24/7? Does the company have a history of satisfied customers? All things to consider when you are evaluating the customer service of the company that you are choosing to do business with.
