Cost:

From $97 to $370

7 styles and fill blends available

TopConsumerReviews.com Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award Down & Feather Company wants to be the last pillow company you need. All of their products, including feather pillows, are sourced, designed and manufactured in-house. That means each pillow, comforter and feather bed is made-to-order, not sitting in a warehouse until someone places an order. Their down is sourced according to the Control Union Responsible Down Standard, coming from species-specific Hungarian geese, while their textiles are the finest Egyptian linens woven on German looms. (You always wanted a multicultural feather pillow, right?)

Pillow Personality Profile

This company knows that it can be challenging to know exactly which feather pillow is your perfect match. Feather or down? Soft or extra firm - or somewhere in between? That's why they offer the handy Pillow Personality Profile; we found it by clicking on the Start Here link at the top of the site. It'll ask you if you're a woman or man, the firmness of your mattress, your height and shoulder breadth, and how you're usually positioned when you sleep. At the end, it will ask you to enter your email address for your results, but you can also see your pillow profile on the site as you continue. When your results page comes up, you can click to be taken directly to all of the pillows Down & Feather carries that are an ideal match for you.

Spin the wheel

When we visited the Down & Feather site, we got a fun spin-the-wheel opportunity: if we entered our email address (presumably signing us up for their newsletters and other promotions), we could win a pillow protector, sleep shirt, pillow spray, or a 10% discount on our order.

Higher quality = higher prices

And trust us when we say you're going to want that discount: prices on feather pillows are pretty high at this store, although they're well in line with the quality of what you're getting. The lowest-priced feather pillow is The Original, described as sleeping "thick and heavy just like the one at grandma's house". For a standard size, soft combination, you'll pay $97; Pricing increased based on how firm you want the pillow and if you go up to a queen or king size, so on the upper end you'd pay $155 for a king-sized, extra-firm in this design. There are four general choices in the all-feather pillows: The Original, Hotel Collection, Natural Nights and Snuggle Soft.

Best Feather Pillows

Ultimate in luxury

And yes, that's the lower end of the spectrum at Down & Feather. If you're going for the ultimate in luxury, the Snuggle Soft 850 Fill Power Goose Down pillow is for you. Because there's only down inside, you won't be poked by feathers while you sleep. This pillow is best for side sleepers that flip to their back or other side and is a good fix if you've got stiffness in your back, neck or shoulders. A standard size, soft support pillow sells for $370. This design comes in four size options (standard, queen, king, and euro 26x26) and four support levels (soft, medium, firm, extra firm).

Free shipping over $150

You'll have to spend quite a bit to get free shipping from this store: at least $150. Of course, given how most of their pillows are already at or over that price point, you might qualify without much effort.

Perfect Pillow Policy

Down & Feather has some unique customer perks that really set this retailer apart from others who sell feather pillows. First, their "Perfect Pillow Policy" entitles you to a one-time density adjustment within the first year after purchase. So, if your profile says you need firm but you give it a try and it's just a little too much, you can send it to Down & Feather to have it taken down to a medium - or vice-versa. Your adjustment will be one density level higher or lower. You'll have to pay for shipping the pillow there, but they'll take care of the return delivery to you.

30 day returns

Second, you'll have 30 days to return your feather pillow if it doesn't meet your expectations. It has to be in new condition to be eligible for a refund, so Down & Feather strongly recommends that you use a pillow protector and pillow case - both to qualify for a return if needed and to keep your pillow in top shape in general.

10 year guarantee

Finally, all of the feather pillows, comforters and feather beds sold by Down & Feather come with an impressive ten-year guarantee. As long as your Goose Down Logo is still attached - it looks like an upside-down goose butt! - your guarantee is automatically valid. The fine print says that the guarantee doesn't cover the down fill, but "if properly cared for...your luxury down bedding will last much longer than ten years".

It's an investment

So yes, while at first glance you might hesitate to spend $100+ on a feather pillow, consider how many times you might have to buy and replace a lower-quality product. If you look at a Down & Feather Company pillow as an investment that is guaranteed to last at least 10 years, it starts to sound like a price worth paying.

Customer love them

Best of all, customers love these feather pillows! You can see hundreds of reviews on the site (even on the most expensive one, there were almost 150 reviews, almost all 5 stars). The company itself also has a sterling reputation. Not only does Down & Feather Company have an "A+" rating from the BBB, but they also have many glowing compliments from customers right on their site. The most common comment is that their pillow is the best they've ever used.

Highest rating

Down & Feather Company doesn't have a huge variety of feather pillows, but they still earn our highest recommendation. In this case, quality takes the win over quantity: you won't find better pillows anywhere, especially when you look at the satisfaction guarantee, warranty, and free density adjustment you get at this store. If you're able to make the investment in a good night's sleep, Down & Feather Company is the best place to find the ideal feather pillows.

Cost:

From $24.99 to $229.99

800+ options to choose from

Bed Bath and Beyond is one of the most well-known names for all of your home goods, with brick-and-mortar locations throughout the US and an easy-to-browse online store. Shopping at BB&B is a great one-stop option if you're trying to redo your entire bedroom or get some new things for the kitchen after you find the perfect feather pillows.

Over 700 throw pillows

So, what does this retailer carry when it comes to those pillows? On the lower end of the price range, your search might initially turn up lots of decorative pillows. In fact, out of the 800+ results you'll get when searching for "feather pillows", 770 of them are throw pillows.

Just the basics

The first bed pillow you'll find is the Choicest Comfort Quilted Feather Standard/Queen, priced at $24.99. It offers medium support, 370 thread count, and comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty: nothing special, just a basic feather pillow.

Best Feather Pillows

Allergy-free contents

On the luxe end of the spectrum is the Standard Feather Down Back Sleeper Pillow by The Pillow Bar. At a price of $229.99 - each, not sold in a set of two - you might want to try one before you buy them for every bedroom! What makes this one so high-end? It's handcrafted of hypoallergenic, sterilized down, making it allergy-free and microbial treated. It comes with a 100% cotton sateen washable zippered pillow protector as well, giving it a more elegant feel than your ordinary feather pillow. It's also made in the USA, if you like to buy American-made products. (We definitely would have liked to see some customer reviews on this one, but at the time of our evaluation there weren't any on the BB&B site.)

You'll likely find a match

You'll find around two dozen options between those two price points. It's not the broadest selection of any feather pillow store we found, but it's enough that you'll probably find at least one that matches the features and price that you've got in mind.

Free shipping over $39

As you browse the Bed Bath and Beyond site, you could get offers to save more. We got a pop-up for 20% off any single item plus free shipping on orders of $39+, and then later got one offering $20 off a purchase of $80 or more. The fine print said the offer was only good for new email list subscribers, and certain exclusions applied. However, the free shipping isn't a special deal: you'll always qualify when you spend at least $39. And, of course, if there's a BB&B near you, you can always order online and pick up in store or curbside - just make sure you have the right location entered at the top of the site.

240 day return policy

Bed Bath & Beyond also extended their return policy, from 180 days to 240 days from the date of purchase. You can bring your items back to the store or return them via mail, for a refund or exchange. Your feather pillows don't have to be in unused condition to qualify, so if you try yours out and just don't love it, you can switch it for a different one or get your money back. This is one of the most generous return policies of all the retailers we evaluated.

One of our favorites

Bed Bath and Beyond is one of our favorite places to buy feather pillows. Although their selection is smaller than some retailers (which is the main reason BB&B didn't earn our top rating), most shoppers will find plenty to choose from. Plus, with convenient options for ordering online and picking up in-store and one of the most customer-friendly return policies in the industry, Bed Bath and Beyond should be on your list if you're looking for feather pillows.

MACY'S

Visit Site

Cost:

From $13.99 to $440

700+ options

While you might not think of a department store when choosing where to buy feather pillows, Macy's has a surprisingly good selection.

Free shipping over $25

If you're looking for an inexpensive feather pillow, Macy's prices start at just $13.99 for the Royal Luxe Quilted feather pillow. Originally priced at $42, it was on sale at the time of our review for just $13.99. You'd need to add a little more to your order to qualify for free shipping ($25 minimum spend). Over 30 customers' reviews, this pillow had a 4 out of 5 star average rating.

Wide range of prices

On the upper end of the scale, Macy's most expensive feather pillow is the Trinity by Simply Down. The original retail price ranges from $750 to $1,100 per pillow, but a promotion in place at the time of this review brought the cost down to $300-$440. This pillow features 650 plus fill power down and a cotton cover with a 300 thread count (though you'd probably have it encased in a pillow protector and/or pillowcase anyway). It comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty and is made in the USA. We weren't too surprised not to see any customer reviews for this feather pillow, given how many less-expensive options were available: more than 750 sold by Macy's.

Best Feather Pillows

Search options

Because there are so many feather and down pillows to choose from, using the filters on the side of the page is a good idea. If there's a brick-and-mortar Macy's near you, you might be able to do store pickup; just make sure you've got your local store entered on the site. You can also see just the feather pillows that are on sale or shop by brand, customer ratings or price. Unfortunately, you can't shop according to size, so you'll have to pick the right ones out on your own when you have your results list. That list can also be sorted by price, ratings, best-sellers and new arrivals.

90 day return policy

If your feather pillow arrives and doesn't meet your expectations, Macy's has a 90-day return policy. But, your pillows have to be in saleable condition with original tags, so you'll want to make sure you protect them appropriately if you want to try sleeping on them for a night or two before making your decision. Any shipping fees you paid are non-refundable, and you may be responsible for any fees to return your pillows by mail.

Solid option

Macy's is a solid option for buying feather pillows. With a good return policy, plenty of sizes and styles to choose from, and a relatively easy-to-use website, this department store earns a good rating.

Walmart

WALMART

Visit Site

Cost:

From $17.99 to $349.99

300+ to choose from

Using the Walmart site to shop for feather pillows - and, of course, almost everything else you could imagine from bicycles to breakfast cereal - is easy using their filters and navigation options. You can show only items that come with free in-store pickup or 2-day delivery, narrow down your options by pillow size or customer ratings, and much more. Once you have a list you like, you can further sort the possibilities by price, ratings, and so on. There are more than 300 feather pillows to choose from, so we definitely suggest making use of those filters to save some time.

Read the descriptions

One thing to watch out for: you know how it is when you shop in the brick-and-mortar Walmart store and you find a can of, say, green beans inexplicably shelved with the shampoo? Shopping their online store can be a little like that as well: even though we got a list that was supposed to be limited to feather pillows, we still spotted some regular fiber-fill models in the bunch. Just be sure to read descriptions carefully before you hit the "pay" button!

Watch the customer ratings

So, back to feather pillows. On the low end of the price spectrum, Walmart had an 18" square throw pillow for $17.99 and a two-pack of down/feather blend bed pillows ($32.30 for queen, $34.67 for king). You'll find many other options, and it can be helpful to keep an eye on the customer ratings on each product to know which ones people loved after sleeping on them for a while.

Best Feather Pillows

Both low-price and expensive options

You might not think of Walmart as a place to shop for luxury pillows, but their affiliation with many third-party "Marketplace" companies puts a pretty wide inventory at their disposal - and yours. The most expensive feather pillows are the king-sized, two-pillow set of 700 fill white goose down, covered in 300-thread count cotton cases, for $349.99 (or just under $175 per pillow). Delivery is free, but there were no customer ratings to tell you what people think of these feather pillows.

Minimum 30-day returns

When it comes to returns, Walmart is quite generous. For any items fulfilled by Walmart, you'll have 90 days to take them back or send them in for a refund. But, you may notice that most of the feather pillows they sell are offered by Marketplace partners. Although those partners can have their own specific return policies, Walmart recently standardized the system by requiring a minimum 30-day window, and by allowing in-store returns directly to Walmart. That's a big plus!

Surprisingly good

Walmart is a surprisingly good place to buy feather pillows. Their selection is broad, pricing is competitive on both the budget and luxury ends of the spectrum, and their return policy is better than many retailers'. You won't necessarily earn style points for shopping at Walmart, but who will know besides you?

Pillows

PILLOWS

Visit Site

Cost:

From $39.99 to $219.99

75+ pillow options available

As a family-based business, Pillows (originally Pacific Pillows) got its start in 2004 with a goal of supplying bedding and pillows from luxury hotels around the world to everyday customers for home use.

Fun shopping experience

Pillows offers shoppers one of the most intuitive sites for hassle-free online buying. You'll have no problem using the options on the side of the page to quickly narrow down the choices by sleeping position, pillow size, price range, firmness level and more. Our favorite feature is being able to shop by hotel location - so if you know you had the feather pillow of your dreams while staying at the Hilton or Marriott, you can find it at Pillows with just a click.

Over 70 pillows to choose from

This retailer carries just over 70 options for feather pillows from a variety of brands. On the high end you'll see the Down Chamber pillow for $219.99, from the Pacific Coast brand (another retailer in our review), and on the low end is the Manchester Mills Down Dream pillow for $39.99. Would it surprise you to know that these bargain feather pillows are the ones often used at the Waldorf-Astoria, according to Pillows? There are also body pillows and throw pillows available if you need those sizes.

30/90 day returns

Pillows wants you to really love your feather pillow. So, you've got two options if you don't: 30 days for a refund or 90 days for an exchange. Your pillow has to be in like new condition for a return or exchange (and we're not exactly sure how that works if you've been sleeping on it for almost three months!). If your pillow is damaged (or not "like new"), you'll get a 50% credit. Pillows provides you with a return shipping label either way, but they'll deduct $9.99 from any refunds issued.

Good customer reviews

As we looked a little further into Pillow's reputation, we found mostly positives. With over 21,000 independently-verified customer ratings, the store comes out with an average score of 4.8 out of 5. Most people would use this site again for their purchase, which is a good sign. But, going a little deeper by clicking on the BBB link at the bottom of the page, we found that Pillows is actually the same company as Pacific Coast and Down Pillows. Unfortunately, that means that all three companies are covered under the same filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy - which could leave you without a return policy or warranty at some point in the future.

Hopefully they stick around

We still give Pillows a good rating and ranking for their selection of feather pillows and their streamlined, customer-friendly online store. On the other hand, there are alternatives for buying your pillows that might offer more reassuring satisfaction policies and warranty coverage if Pillows and its related brands aren't able to come back from their financial troubles.

Pacific Coast

PACIFIC COAST

Visit Site

Cost:

From $14.99 to $269.99

Approximately 30 to choose from

Pacific Coast has been in the premium feather and down bedding industry for over 125 years. Their feather pillows are so popular that you'll probably even spot them in the inventory of some of the other retailers in our review! You might also have slept on a Pacific Coast pillow during your last hotel stay.

Limited allergy-free warranty

Pacific Coast's highest-end feather pillow is the Luxury Down model. Prices range from $169.99 to $269.99 depending on the size you select. Covered in 680 thread count cotton, you may not even want to use a pillowcase (though it's still recommended to protect your pillow). It's got 700 fill power Hyperclean white goose down, a limited allergy-free warranty, and is made in America. Can you believe it's even machine washable? Customer reviews for this feather pillow were positive overall, but we were surprised that Pacific Coast's most expensive model only earned an average of 4.3 stars.

Low priced options

How about the opposite end of the scale? There you'll find the Euro Pillow (used with decorative shams) for $14.99 on flash sale ($29.99 regular price), two down alternative pillows from $17.49 to $39.99, and their lowest-priced bed pillow (Feather Best) for $39.99 to $49.99. That last option contains extra-fluffy feathers and is covered in soft brushed cotton - but once again, over more than 10 customer reviews, the feather pillow got a 4-star average.

Get it all at once

Pacific Coast also shows you options for pillow-and-comforter sets in the results for feather pillows. That could be a nice way of taking care of all of your bedding needs at the same time.

Discounts available

You probably have a good chance of getting a discount if you time your shopping just right. During our most recent visit to the Pacific Coast site, there was a seasonal promotion offering discounts from 15% to 30%, depending on the final price of our order. We also got a pop-up discount of 10% if we provided our email address, though we didn't love the "expiring in 30 minutes" aspect of the offer. Finally, Pacific Coast regularly offers free shipping on orders over $99, which isn't the most generous we've seen but it could save you a little if you're ordering a higher-end pillow or several less expensive ones.

Chapter 11

When we looked up the Better Business Bureau listing for Pacific Coast, we were glad to see that they had a decent grade of "A-". However, an alert dated from May 2019 said that the company had filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the federal Bankruptcy Act. Pacific Coast is still in operation, but a possible bankruptcy could mean that their 30-day satisfaction guarantee or three-year warranty on all feather pillows doesn't mean much.

You have options

Pacific Coast has been a recognized name in the feather pillow marketplace for a long time, and they offer a fair selection for purchase. But, we were disappointed with customer ratings lower than we would have expected for such a well-known brand. Plus, with bankruptcy possibly looming, it might make more sense to buy your feather pillows from another retailer - maybe even buying the Pacific Coast brand from a store that sells multiple manufacturers' products, so that you've got that company's return policy and satisfaction guarantee in place instead.

Pillow Decor

PILLOW DECOR

Visit Site

Cost:

From $14.95 to $42.95

12 sizes available

Pillow Decor aims to be the go-to retailer for decorative throw pillows and cushions throughout North America. For that reason, you won't find much in the way of feather pillows for your bed with this retailer - though you could make their products work as bed pillows if you like. And, if you're specifically trying to show off your style throughout your home with creative patterns and styles of throw pillows, this could be the right store for you.

Retain their shape

That makes shopping for feather pillows very different at this store. You essentially need to decide whether you want a square or a rectangular pillow and then choose the size. All of the feather pillows are a 95/5 feather/down blend, and the site describes how these are preferred by decorators and designers because they're not only soft and luxurious, but they also retain some shape if you're going for the perfect look for an Insta photo.

Inexpensive

Prices start at $14.95 for a 9"x18" feather pillow and go up to $42.95 for a 28" square pillow. Covers can be purchased separately in a rainbow of colors and lots of fabrics, or you can just buy the pillows to go with covers you're already using.

Flat rate shipping

Unfortunately, Pillow Decor doesn't have many customer-friendly perks like you might find with their rival stores. For example, you'll pay flat rate shipping fees of $7.99 no matter how big your order is. We also didn't see any promotions offering free shipping or a discount for a customer's first purchase.

Limited return policy

Pillow Decor has a limited return policy. You only have 15 days from the date you received your feather pillows to make a return, and your items must be in new, unused condition. Not only are you responsible for the return costs, but you'll also have a $7.99 outbound shipping charge deducted from your refund if your order came via free delivery.

Excellent customer feedback

This company also doesn't have a rating from the Better Business Bureau, although they've been in operation for over 14 years. On the other hand, we were able to find almost 300 independently-verified customer reviews of Pillow Decor, almost all of which gave the store a perfect five-star rating. Shoppers said that their pillows arrived earlier than promised, looked just like the description, and were packaged well.

Decorative pillows only

For shoppers buying feather pillows for their bedroom, Pillow Decor isn't going to have anything other than decorative ones - usually the kind that you move to the side when you're ready to sleep for the night and put back when you make the bed in the morning. That limited focus plus a lackluster returns policy are part of the reason that this retailer didn't earn a higher ranking. But, if you are specifically looking for feather pillows for decorative purposes, Pillow Decor gets high marks from many happy customers.

Cost:

Cost depends on the brand

Small selection of feather pillows

Down Pillows wants to be your provider of luxury down pillows and other bedding. Started by two entrepreneurs in 2007, the company specializes in higher-end feather pillows for home use.

Frustrating shopping experience

Down Pillows isn't the easiest site to shop. Instead of being able to sort through all of their inventory with helpful filters like price, customer rating, or size, you have to start by selecting a brand: Cloud Nine Comforts, Down Etc., Encompass Group, Pacific Coast, Pillowtex, or United Feather & Down. Most people looking for pillows probably don't already have a preferred brand name in mind, making the process a little frustrating as they have to click back and forth across brands to compare pillows they like.

No descriptions

Even when you've chosen a brand, you'll still have to click around in the results page to figure out what Down Pillows is selling. For example, when we selected Pacific Coast, three of the six options were simply labeled "Pacific Coast" - with three different pictures, but no description for how they differed. Short of going through every single product in their inventory, Down Pillows doesn't make it easy to know how many feather pillows they carry or at what prices.

Variety of choices

For comparison with other retailers, here are a couple of the pillows you'll find with this store. Encompass Group is a major supplier of high-end hotels worldwide, and Down Pillows sells five styles of their products. These range from white duck or goose down to 50/50 down/feather blends. Looking just at the goose down styles, prices range from $89.99 for one standard pillow to $379.99 for a 4-pack of king-size pillows.

Cloud Nine is known as a source of custom bedding that has made its way into model homes and high-end remodels around the world. They make pillows that are 50/50 polyester/white feathers, ranging in price from $54.99 for one queen pillow to $134.99 for two king pillows.

Free shipping - or not

What about shipping? Here's another way that the Down Pillows site is confusing: at the top of the page, it says shipping is free on orders over $75, but at the bottom it has in big, bold print, "FREE ground shipping on ALL ORDERS" to the continental US. We recommend that if you have a smaller order that doesn't meet that $75 threshold and your total shows a shipping charge, reach out to the company's customer service team and ask them to waive the fee.

30 night sleep guarantee

All feather pillows sold by this retailer have a 30-night Sleep Guarantee: if you're not happy with your purchase, you can get your money back and your return shipping label is free.

Part of a larger company

One of the reasons Down Pillows' website might need a little attention is because they're a small division of a larger company: the retailer named Pillows (go figure) that you will also find in our reviews. Pillows has an "A" grade and accreditation with the Better Business Bureau, which is a mark in the plus column for Down Pillows too.

Better choices elsewhere

However, the Pillows site is much easier to shop - and you'll probably find most of the same feather pillows sold by Down Pillows. That's why we recommend you either shop directly through the Pillows site or with one of the other retailers we evaluated: your overall experience, selection and pricing will likely be better than what you'll get from Down Pillows.

Continued from above

Many people prefer natural materials over synthetics, and some customers say that having feather- or down-filled pillows makes for a cooler, more comfortable rest. Plus, compared with foam-filled designs, feather pillows are more easily shaped to your head, neck, or any other body part that needs gentle support.

That feature makes feather pillows equally popular with interior decorators: a good down-filled pillow can be plumped, fluffed and shaped to look absolutely perfect in a model home or social media photo. In fact, there are online stores dedicated solely to feather throw pillows for home decor!

Whether you're freshening the look of your living room or replacing your flattened bed pillows, shopping online puts the best selection of feather pillows at your fingertips. But, not all stores are created equal. Here are a few helpful criteria to keep in mind as you decide where to buy your pillows:

  • Selection. The best stores carry a wide range of inventory, from budget-friendly basic styles to hotel-level luxury pillows.
  • Pricing. How do the prices compare to other retailers'? Are there any perks like free shipping or promo discounts that can make your purchase even more affordable?
  • Ease of Navigation. If a store has a great selection of pillows but their website makes it hard to find what you need, you might wind up feeling frustrated. Choose a retailer with a well-designed online store to minimize hassles.
  • Reputation. What do other customers say about their experience with the store and their satisfaction with the feather pillows they purchased?

TopConsumerReviews.com has reviewed and ranked the best online retailers of feather pillows available today. We hope this information helps you get exactly what you need for a blissful night's sleep!
