Innovative Language

Innovative Language's FrenchPod101 uses a variety of approaches—audio, video, written, and so on - to teach French language and culture, including a selection of content across several levels of instruction. Knowing how and when to move from one group of lessons to another be confusing, and some customers may not like the site's strong emphasis on the "limited offer" sales pitch. Best known for its 30-minute audio lessons, Pimsleur is a respected provider of language instruction, and their "Complete Course" download does include a visual, interactive component as well. But, without a solid return policy, Pimsleur's French lessons may be an expensive risk compared to their competitors.

LingQ teaches French by providing authentic French texts and connecting learners with native speaker "helpers" that find and fix mistakes in writing samples and conduct conversations online in group and individual sessions. We found that LingQ's pricing plans and overall structure left us wondering exactly how much a student would need to spend to gain fluency in French, because there's no set sequence for lessons, and every connection uses purchased "points". You'll want to give LingQ's free membership a try before making a commitment to their paid programs.
