A Gift Inside

A GIFT INSIDE Visit Site

Cost:

From $21.95 to $269.95

A Gift Inside brings together gifts from 3 different brands: Golden State Fruit, CY Chocolates, and Farmstead Gourmet. The fruit baskets contain fruit fresh from the Golden State Fruit orchards in Northern California. Many of the fruit baskets also include the chocolate treats from CY Chocolates and the gourmet treats from Farmstead Gourmet.

There are several beautiful options that you can choose from. The starting price for gift options on the site is $21.95 for a dried fruit basket or $39.95 for a fresh fruit basket. The most expensive basket on the site is $269.95, so you know there is something that will fit everyone's budget. A great option is the Happy Birthday Basket. This basket retails for $62.95 and includes 6 pears (in 3 different types), 4 apples (2 different types), 2 oranges, 2 kiwi and 2 pieces of a seasonal selection. The website also features clear pictures of each basket so you can be assured your gift will look perfect. The pictures will also indicate if the basket has free shipping included or if the basket contains organic options.

Once you click on a basket to view the details, you can view the shipping calendar so that you can understand the cost to ship your order based on when you want to receive it. Shipping prices are some of the lowest among its competitors and range in price from $7.95 for standard shipping to $39.95 for Saturday delivery. You even have the option of purchasing now for a future shipment date or sending to several recipients in one order so that you can get your holiday shopping done early.

Purchasing a basket from A Gift Inside is easy. In addition to the major credit cards, you can also use PayPal to purchase your basket. Each purchased is backed by their 100% Satisfaction Guarantee where they will replace or refund your purchase if you are not satisfied.

A Gift Inside remains a good choice on this list for its selection and price. The baskets are not as artfully arranged as others on this list, but they are above average and do ship directly from the orchard, ensuring the freshest fruits are sent with your order. This puts A Gift Inside towards the top of our list.

Cost:

From $35 to $125

FTD offerings include flowers, plants, gift baskets, balloons, chocolates, and fruit baskets. The options for fruit baskets are somewhat limited and most include other non-fruit items in them, like chocolates, nuts or cheese. The pictures on the website show average looking baskets, but we recognize that FTD usually fills their orders from local FTD affiliates, so what the basket may look like once delivered could be different.

The detailed fruit baasket descriptions on FTD's website do explain what is included in each item, but no mention is made of where the fruit comes from or what quality and inspection process they complete to ensure the fruit is fresh and blemish free. But FTD does have a "Love it, or we'll make it right" guarantee, which helps put customers at ease.

Fruit boxes and baskets at FTD range in price from $35 for the "Good" size "Fruit and Cheese Box", compared to $125 for the "Share the Goodness of California Fruit & Gourmet Basket". The range of prices creates options that can appeal to a variety of budgets. Shipping costs can be pricey, and they are not shown until you get to the very end of the order process (after you have entered your shipping information), so until then you do not know how much more the basket will be than the advertised price. They do offer an FTD Gold Membership that you can purchase for $30 that will give you free standard shipping, no service fees and reduced shipping on same day or premium delivery methods for one year. FTD accepts standard payment methods, but also includes PayPal.

The downsides to using FTD would be the concern for quality and the lack of many options when it comes to fruit baskets. There were also several negative reviews on the Better Business Bureau website, but all of them seemed to be closed satisfactorily with a full refund due to FTD's customer service pledge. The Gold Membership is also a nice option to help save on shipping costs if you plan to make multiple purchases in the year. Overall, FTD is average when it comes to fruit baskets, which is why this one ends up in near the middle-to-end of our list.

Some questions that might come to mind include where do I find a reputable company, how can I ensure the fruit is good and not too ripe, what type of fruit do I want to include in the basket? When looking for the best company to purchase your fruit basket, you'll want to consider the following:

  • Supplier of the Fruit. Where is the fruit grown and how does it make its way to your gift basket? Will it change hands several times before it gets to you? Or will it come straight from the orchard? The freshest fruits will come from companies with a direct connection to an Orchard.
  • Selection. How many different choices does the company have? Do they have a range of prices and sizes available so that you can find the perfect one? Is there variety in the contents of each basket to delight the recipient?
  • Cost. How does the cost compare from one site to another? How much fruit am I getting in the basket compared to a similar product on another site? What are the shipping costs? Are there any service fees?
  • Satisfaction Guarantee. Does the site offer a satisfaction guarantee? Under what circumstances will that guarantee be valid? Fresh fruit is a perishable item that is rarely able to be returned. Working with a company that has a satisfaction guarantee will protect you and ensure you are satisfied with your purchase.
