Gourmet Gift Baskets

GOURMET GIFT BASKETS

Cost:

From $39.99 to $249.99

Gourmet Gift Basket is another gift basket site that caters to those that want options when choosing a gift. There are fruit baskets available on their website, but the selection is somewhat limited (only 10) and all of them offer a mixture of fruit and other gourmet treats, like nuts, baked goods, chocolate or meat and cheeses. There are not any all fruit options. The presentation of the baskets appear abundant and pretty, very similar to others on this list.

The website is well organized with an appealing layout which makes it easy to search for the perfect gift. Categories at the top of the page quickly expand by hovering over the main category to review a secondary list of options to narrow your search. Once you find the perfect category, then you can sort your results by low to high in price, high to low in price, or by most popular. If you are still getting too many results, you can filter further by applying a price filter, shipping timeframe or even by the types of items contained in the basket. Once you find an option that interests you, you can click on it to review the detailed list of contents that will be contained in that fruit basket and place your order.

Fruit baskets at Gourmet Gift Basket range in price from $39.99 to $249.99. Even though the price range is good for the fruit baskets, the lack of options creates definite holes in the pricing structure that may make it difficult to get a gift for the price you want. Paying for your basket is easy too as Gourmet Gift Basket accepts all major credit cards and PayPal. If your fruit basket is damaged upon delivery, be sure to reach out to the customer service team within 15 days of delivery so that you can get a replacement product sent to you.

Even though there is a lack of fruit basket options, Gourmet Gift Baskets have received several positive reviews for the baskets that they do offer. The baskets they create are pretty and offer a variety of options in them. We would like to see more options, but overall a solid choice, one you won't be disappointed in.

Cost:

From $35 to $125

FTD offerings include flowers, plants, gift baskets, balloons, chocolates, and fruit baskets. The options for fruit baskets are somewhat limited and most include other non-fruit items in them, like chocolates, nuts or cheese. The pictures on the website show average looking baskets, but we recognize that FTD usually fills their orders from local FTD affiliates, so what the basket may look like once delivered could be different.

The detailed fruit baasket descriptions on FTD's website do explain what is included in each item, but no mention is made of where the fruit comes from or what quality and inspection process they complete to ensure the fruit is fresh and blemish free. But FTD does have a "Love it, or we'll make it right" guarantee, which helps put customers at ease.

Fruit boxes and baskets at FTD range in price from $35 for the "Good" size "Fruit and Cheese Box", compared to $125 for the "Share the Goodness of California Fruit & Gourmet Basket". The range of prices creates options that can appeal to a variety of budgets. Shipping costs can be pricey, and they are not shown until you get to the very end of the order process (after you have entered your shipping information), so until then you do not know how much more the basket will be than the advertised price. They do offer an FTD Gold Membership that you can purchase for $30 that will give you free standard shipping, no service fees and reduced shipping on same day or premium delivery methods for one year. FTD accepts standard payment methods, but also includes PayPal.

The downsides to using FTD would be the concern for quality and the lack of many options when it comes to fruit baskets. There were also several negative reviews on the Better Business Bureau website, but all of them seemed to be closed satisfactorily with a full refund due to FTD's customer service pledge. The Gold Membership is also a nice option to help save on shipping costs if you plan to make multiple purchases in the year. Overall, FTD is average when it comes to fruit baskets, which is why this one ends up in near the middle-to-end of our list.

Some questions that might come to mind include where do I find a reputable company, how can I ensure the fruit is good and not too ripe, what type of fruit do I want to include in the basket? When looking for the best company to purchase your fruit basket, you'll want to consider the following:

  • Supplier of the Fruit. Where is the fruit grown and how does it make its way to your gift basket? Will it change hands several times before it gets to you? Or will it come straight from the orchard? The freshest fruits will come from companies with a direct connection to an Orchard.
  • Selection. How many different choices does the company have? Do they have a range of prices and sizes available so that you can find the perfect one? Is there variety in the contents of each basket to delight the recipient?
  • Cost. How does the cost compare from one site to another? How much fruit am I getting in the basket compared to a similar product on another site? What are the shipping costs? Are there any service fees?
  • Satisfaction Guarantee. Does the site offer a satisfaction guarantee? Under what circumstances will that guarantee be valid? Fresh fruit is a perishable item that is rarely able to be returned. Working with a company that has a satisfaction guarantee will protect you and ensure you are satisfied with your purchase.
