Cost:

From $22.99 - $119.99

Pittman & Davis offers an extensive array of fruit gift baskets for consumers. They supply over 40 options, and provide pictures with each gift basket available, allowing transparency for products offered. Additionally, they provide a filter towards the left side of the screen, allowing you to narrow the numerous options down to those that best meet your budget.

Fruit gift basket options primarily include some combination of Navel Oranges, Ruby Red Grapefruits, Comice Pears, Red Apples, Clementines, D'Anjou Pears, Fuji Apples, Mountain Apples, and Starkrimson Pears. Select gift baskets also offer various chocolates, cheeses, nuts, and cookies assortments, in addition to the fruit. Amongst the gift baskets available, Pittman & Davis sell several different Holiday themed baskets, Family Gourmet baskets, and baskets which honor the local Texas culture of the company, such as the "Texas Two-Step" basket.

While Pittman & Davis have built up quite a loyal fan base over the near 100 years of their operation, we find that the company's selection of baskets could offer more creative designs and an even wider variety of fruits, when compared with the other contenders on our list. Pittman & Davis do an excellent job of delivering quality fruit options for customers at budget-friendly prices - however, so do many other companies on our list, and they do so in a more thoughtfully packaged manner.

Pittman & Davis offer free standard shipping on all purchases, and provide consumers with a "family-feel" to their business. They will likely meet your needs when searching for a fruit gift basket to order - but there are other companies that will go above and beyond your expectations for similar prices. And while Pittman & Davis advertise a full refund for unsatisfied customers, many reviews have painted less than ideal pictures of their customer service team. In fact, we found several reports where customers dialed customer service, only to be hung up on or responded to in an unkind manner. Although the majority of reviews highlighted pleased customers, there were enough of these poor reviews that make the claims worth considering when making your fruit basket purchase.

While Pittman & Davis do offer an extensive variety of fruit baskets for affordable prices, their fruit selection could ultimately be more robust and their presentation more impressive for customers. Additionally, the complaints of poor customer service are worrisome. You could likely find a basket to fit your needs within your budget with Pittman & Davis, but if there is financial flexibility, we recommend higher rated companies on our list.

Cost:

From $39.95 to $128.50

Edible Gifts Plus is a family-owned business that wants to delight you with their offerings by providing the freshest and tastiest treats for any occasion. They have several unique options, including some adorable giant fortune cookies, that are sure to please. But once you turn your attention to fruit baskets only, Edible Gifts Plus is a disappointment.

Finding the complete selection of fruit baskets is a challenge. The site is organized to allow you to search through the product offerings by occasions, holidays, shop by category, specialty treats or corporate gifts. There is also a search bar at the top where you can enter keywords to search. With these options, it should be easy to locate the fruit baskets. Unfortunately, this is not the case. There is not a menu option to see all the fruit baskets (only one to show "Fruit and Gift Baskets" that returns several unrelated items) and a keyword search only reveals 5 results. The best selection we found was by clicking the link to the Edible Gifts Plus site found below, where we were presented with 6 options, ranging in price from $39.95 to $128.50.

Once you start to peruse the baskets, you can see that fruit baskets found on this site are not of the same quality as the other sites on this list. While competitors' baskets seem fresh and abundant, the fruit baskets at Edible Gifts Plus seem boring and minimal. The descriptions are also vague and do not provide clarity on what you will receive in the gift basket.

Purchasing a gift from Edible Gifts Plus is easy. Payment options all major credit cards and PayPal. Be cautious when purchasing as there is not return policy once your order has been prepared and shipped. If you have a problem with your order, you need to contact customer service within 24 hours if you want to get any type of refund since the company does not typically accept refunds. They will however replace an item but save all the packaging as your basket may need to be inspected before a refund is given.

If you are serious about getting a fruit basket, this is not the site for you. The options are limited and just do not look as nice as others on this list. But if you are open to other gifts, they may have some that will appeal. The fortune cookies look amazing. Or if you own your business and want to get personalized treats with your company logo on them, Edible Gifts Plus can help you with that. Because of the lack of selection of fruit baskets and the disappointing presentation, Edible Gifts Plus ends up at the bottom of our fruit baskets list.

Some questions that might come to mind include where do I find a reputable company, how can I ensure the fruit is good and not too ripe, what type of fruit do I want to include in the basket? When looking for the best company to purchase your fruit basket, you'll want to consider the following:

  • Supplier of the Fruit. Where is the fruit grown and how does it make its way to your gift basket? Will it change hands several times before it gets to you? Or will it come straight from the orchard? The freshest fruits will come from companies with a direct connection to an Orchard.
  • Selection. How many different choices does the company have? Do they have a range of prices and sizes available so that you can find the perfect one? Is there variety in the contents of each basket to delight the recipient?
  • Cost. How does the cost compare from one site to another? How much fruit am I getting in the basket compared to a similar product on another site? What are the shipping costs? Are there any service fees?
  • Satisfaction Guarantee. Does the site offer a satisfaction guarantee? Under what circumstances will that guarantee be valid? Fresh fruit is a perishable item that is rarely able to be returned. Working with a company that has a satisfaction guarantee will protect you and ensure you are satisfied with your purchase.
